This release reorganizes parts of the color API. The chainable wrapper behind Fore/Back/Style was reworked and renamed, two functions were renamed or relocated, and the gradient iterators moved into their own submodule. Fore/Back/Style usage is unchanged, but several lower-level imports have moved; see Compatibility notes.

Compatibility notes

color_str_wrapper renamed to color_chain and moved

The chainable wrapper was reworked, renamed to color_chain, and moved from chromatic.color.palette to chromatic.color.core. It remains reachable as chromatic.color.color_chain. Update any import of color_str_wrapper to color_chain.

rgb2ansi_color_esc renamed to rgb2ansi_escape

The function name changed; behavior is unchanged.

hsl_gradient and rgb_luma_transform moved to chromatic.color.iterators

Both functions live in the new chromatic.color.iterators submodule and are no longer re-exported from chromatic.color. Import them from chromatic.color.iterators.

Display helpers renamed and disabled

display_named_colors was renamed to named_color_idents, and display_ansi256_color_range was disabled. Neither was part of the documented exports.

New features

color_chain

The reworked wrapper that Fore/Back/Style are built on. In addition to being callable on a string to color it, it composes with + and +=, and gains a from_masks() constructor.

chromatic.color.iterators

A new submodule that is now the home of hsl_gradient and rgb_luma_transform.

Changes

Internal refactors in core

The SGR-related types and signatures in core were refactored and the core iterators were split into their own module. Callers of the public color API see no behavior change.
