v1.0, first race weekend (Austin 2026)
Ed's Race Weekend Dashboard v1.0
I built this so my son Ed and I could follow a Formula 1 weekend together on one screen, with each of us seeing our own drivers and teams. It runs on a Windows laptop, uses F1's own free live timing, and costs nothing to run. The AI parts are optional and cost pennies a weekend.
It was tested live on practice at the 2026 United States Grand Prix in Austin.
What it does
The main screen has a live timing tower with sector times, a track map with every car on it, tyre strategy, gaps, speed traps and the championship as it stands. The race feed shows overtakes, pit stops, flags, stewards' decisions with penalty badges, and team radio, which is written out word for word by a free speech model running on the laptop.
Click any driver, team or the race name to see their history: career numbers, this season race by race, how they've done at this track before, and any past race in full. There's a qualifying view with the drop zone, a predictions game, a weather radar, and a telly mode for the sofa.
Each person picks the teams and drivers they follow and gets their own colour. You can share a private link with a six-number code so family outside the house can watch too.
Getting started
- Click Code, then Download ZIP, and unzip it somewhere handy.
- Double-click 1 Set up.
- Double-click Try the demo to see a made-up race play out.
- On race weekends, double-click 2 Start dashboard.
To make it yours, open config.py in Notepad and put in your own names, teams and drivers. The README covers everything else, including sharing, AI comments and your own web address.
Good to know
It uses F1's unofficial live timing feed, the same one other fan projects use, so if F1 changes something it may need a fix. Live car telemetry and GPS are F1 TV only, so car positions on the map are worked out from timing. History comes from Jolpica, the free replacement for the old Ergast service.
This is a home project and isn't connected to Formula 1 in any way.
