- Open Settings (⌘,) → Connections. A server entry for Undernet is already there — or press + to add your own.
- Fill in a Nickname. That's your name on the network.
- Press Connect. The dot next to the network's name turns green when you're on.
Relay reconnects by itself if the connection drops — it waits a little longer between each try.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | just a label for your own sidebar |
| Host / Port | the server's address. Undernet: irc.undernet.org, port 6667 (or 6697 with TLS) |
| Use TLS / SSL | encrypts the connection. Turn on if the network supports it |
| Nickname | your name in chat |
| Alternate nickname | used automatically if your first choice is taken |
| Username | the technical login shown in your address (nick!username@host). Blank = reuse nickname |
| Real name | free text shown in /whois. Doesn't have to be real |
| Server password | only if your server requires one — most don't |
| Authenticate with SASL | logs into your registered account during connect, before anyone sees you |
| Connect on launch | opens this connection automatically when Relay starts |
| Reconnect automatically | if the line drops, Relay redials for you |
Every other switch — user modes, perform commands, auto-join, art, notifications — is covered field by field in Settings Explained.
