Glossary

An alphabetical index of ISDL keywords, field types, and common parameters. Each entry links to the full documentation.

A

action β€” A button rendered on a character sheet that runs logic when clicked. Defined with action <Name> { ... }. Docs

actor β€” A document type that represents a character, creature, or other entity with a sheet. Defined with actor <Name> { ... }. Docs

and β€” Logical AND operator. Both conditions must be true. Docs

attribute β€” A field type storing a score with a derived modifier (e.g. D&D STR 16 / +3). Optionally add roll: or function: for a click handler. Docs


B

background: β€” Parameter on page or actor/item that sets the decorative sheet background pattern (e.g. bricks, topography). Docs

boolean β€” A simple yes/no checkbox field. Also valid as a value:-computed read-only flag. Docs

bonuses β€” A display field that shows a summary table of all damage-type bonuses from Active Effects. Used with choice<damageType>. Docs

border { } β€” A theme block for setting the color, width, and corner radius of field and container borders. Docs


C

calculator: β€” Parameter on number fields. Set true to always show the calculator button, false to never show it. Automatically shown when max > 10. Docs

chat β€” A block inside an action that posts a card to the Foundry chat log. chat <Name> { ... }. Docs

choice<damageType> β€” A dropdown that auto-generates Active Effects fields for damage bonuses and resistances. Docs

choice<string> β€” A dropdown field with predefined string choices and rich metadata (icons, colors, extra data). Docs

choice<DocumentType> β€” Links to a single document via a searchable dropdown instead of drag-and-drop. Docs

choices<string> β€” A multi-select picker variant of choice<string>. Docs

choices<DocumentType> β€” Links to multiple documents via a searchable dropdown with a configurable maximum. Docs

color: β€” Standard parameter on any field. Sets the accent color. On number fields, also colorizes the icon. Docs

column β€” A layout block that stacks its children vertically. Used inside row to create multi-column layouts. Docs

Combat.isMyTurn β€” Boolean expression that is true when it is this character's turn in the active combat. Docs

Combat.nextTurn() β€” Advances combat to the next combatant's turn. Docs

config β€” Required top-level block that sets the system ID, label, description, theme, settings, and sidecar stylesheets. Docs

crit: β€” Parameter on roll(...) that sets the threshold for a critical-hit flag. The roll result gains .crit = true. Docs


D

damage() β€” A function for creating typed damage objects, used with choice<damageType> fields. Docs

damageTrack β€” A World of Darkness–style click-to-fill damage track with named severity buckets. Docs

date β€” A field that stores a real-world date value. Docs

datetime β€” A field that stores both a date and time. Docs

death status β€” Prefix on a status declaration that marks it as the death effect (applied when HP ≀ 0). Only one per actor. Docs

default: β€” Parameter on actor/item declarations. default: true makes this the pre-selected type when creating a new document. Docs

die β€” A field that stores a single die value (d4, d6, d8…) with smart step operations. Docs

dice β€” A field that stores a dice-pool expression like "2d6". Docs

disabledText { } β€” A theme block that controls the color and size of read-only (play-mode) text. Docs

display: β€” Parameter on money fields. Controls how multi-denomination currency is shown (breakdown, primary, consolidated). Docs


E

each β€” Loop keyword. each item in self.Equipment { ... } iterates over a collection or range. Docs

edit β€” Visibility shorthand. The field or action is only visible in Edit Mode. Docs

elevation: β€” Not a direct ISDL keyword; control section card elevation (shadow) via the sidecar stylesheet or theme: overrides. Docs

equals β€” Preferred equality comparison operator (alternative: ==). Docs

eternal β€” Declares an immutable constant variable inside an action or function. Docs

exists β€” Checks whether an optional field has a value. Use self.Field exists before accessing it. Docs


F

fields: β€” Parameter on table that lists which columns to display by default (bare identifiers, not quoted). Docs

flavor β€” Line inside a chat { } block that renders as the card's flavor text at the top. Docs

fleeting β€” Declares a mutable temporary variable inside an action or function. Docs

font { } β€” A theme block that sets the body font family and base size. Docs

function β€” A named, reusable block of logic that can be called from actions and calculated values. Docs

fumble: β€” Parameter on roll(...) that sets the threshold for a fumble flag. The roll result gains .fumble = true. Docs


G

globalStyles = β€” Config option pointing to a .scss file scoped to the entire system (sheets, chat cards, dialogs). Docs

gmEdit β€” Visibility shorthand. GMs can edit; owners and viewers can only read. Docs

gmOnly β€” Visibility shorthand. Only GMs can see or interact with this field. Docs


H

has β€” Contains operator. self.Tags has "magic" checks if a collection includes a value. Docs

health β€” Modifier on resource that marks it as the primary health pool (red/green bar, token bar 1, damage applicator target). Docs

heading { } β€” A theme block that sets the color, font, size, and CSS transform for card titles and the document name. Docs

hidden β€” Visibility shorthand. The field is never rendered on the sheet but is still stored. Docs

hideLabel: β€” Parameter that hides a field's label (and notch) from the sheet. Docs

hint: β€” Parameter on settings. Shows descriptive text under the setting name in the settings menu. Docs

html β€” A rich-text, multi-line formatted text field. Renders twice as wide as other fields. Docs


I

icon: β€” Standard parameter on any field or action. Sets a Font Awesome icon. Docs

image β€” A click-to-edit image field. Add primary: true to bind it to the document's portrait. Docs

imageAction: β€” Parameter on table that makes each row's image clickable, running the named action on that item. Docs

initial: β€” Parameter on number-based fields. Sets the starting value at document creation. Can be a static literal or a computed expression (applied once). Docs

inventory β€” A visual grid-based inventory field with drag-and-drop. Docs

item β€” A document type for things characters own (spells, equipment, features…). Docs


K

keywords β€” A block inside config for defining reusable game mechanic terms that auto-generate player journals. Docs


L

label: β€” Standard parameter on any field. Overrides the English display label without changing the field ID. Docs

limit: β€” Parameter on prompt(...). Sets a time limit for the user to respond before the prompt times out. Docs

log() β€” Development helper that writes to the browser console. Docs

locked β€” Visibility shorthand. The field is visible and read-only for everyone; Active Effects cannot edit it. Docs


M

macro action β€” Modifier on action that makes it eligible to be dragged to the Foundry macro hotbar. Docs

macro β€” A field type that stores an executable Foundry macro. Docs

Math.abs() / Math.ceil() / Math.floor() / Math.max() / Math.min() / Math.round() β€” Built-in math functions available in all logic. Docs

max: β€” Parameter on number-based fields. Sets the maximum allowed value. Can be a computed expression. Docs

measuredTemplate β€” A field that stores Foundry measured template data for area-of-effect placement. Docs

min: β€” Parameter on number-based fields. Sets the minimum allowed value. Docs

mod: β€” Parameter on attribute fields. A method block that derives the modifier from the raw score. If omitted, the score is the modifier. Docs

money β€” A currency field with single or multi-denomination support, calculator, and automatic conversion. Docs


N

number β€” A basic numeric field with optional min, max, initial, value, and calculator support. Docs


O

on β€” Declares a hook handler that runs automatically when a game event fires (e.g. on turnStart { ... }). Docs

or β€” Logical OR operator. Either condition can be true. Docs


P

page β€” A layout block that adds a new tab to the sheet. page <Name> { ... }. Docs

paperdoll β€” A visual equipment-slot overlay on a character image. Docs

parent β€” Inside an item action, refers to the owning actor. Requires a if (parent is SomeActor) type guard. Docs

parent<type> β€” A picker field that lets users choose one of the parent actor's typed fields. Docs

pinned β€” A display field showing all items the user has pinned, with their actions. Docs

play β€” Visibility shorthand. The field or action is only visible in Play Mode. Docs

play() β€” Plays a sound file. play(file: "sounds/hit.wav", volume: 75). Docs

primary: β€” Parameter on image fields. primary: true binds the field to the document's native portrait/token image. Docs

prompt() β€” Opens an input dialog to collect user input mid-action. Docs


R

readonly β€” Visibility shorthand. The field is visible to all but never editable or clickable. Docs

resistances β€” A display field that shows a summary table of damage-type resistances from Active Effects. Docs

resource β€” A field with current, temp, and max sub-fields. Renders as an animated bar. Mark with health or wounds for special treatment. Docs

returns β€” Part of function syntax: function Name(...) returns number { ... }. Declares what type the function returns. Docs

roll() β€” The dice-rolling function. Accepts Foundry dice expressions with optional ISDL field references. Returns a roll object. Docs

rollVisualizer β€” A display field that charts the probability distribution, average, and min/max of a dice formula. Docs

row β€” A layout block that places its children side by side horizontally. Docs


S

secret β€” Visibility shorthand. Hidden from non-owner viewers; visible to GMs and owners. Docs

section β€” A layout block that groups related fields in a labeled card on the sheet. Docs

self β€” Inside any action or function, refers to the document the action is attached to. Docs

self<type> β€” A picker field that lets users choose one of the same document's typed fields at play time. Docs

self.update() β€” Forces pending document changes to apply immediately within the current action. Docs

settings β€” A block inside config for declaring Foundry game settings (world or client scope). Docs

sheetStyles = β€” Config option pointing to a .scss file scoped to the generated character sheets only. Docs

status β€” Declares a status-effect icon that can be manually or automatically applied to an actor. Docs

string β€” A single-line text field. Can be restricted to a list of choices for a plain dropdown. Docs

style: β€” Parameter on tracker fields. Controls the visual presentation: bar, segmented, icons, slashes, dial, clock, or plain. Docs

System.<Name> β€” Read or write a declared game setting from logic. Docs


T

table β€” A layout element for item lists (table<ItemType> <Name>) or custom data tables. Docs

tag β€” Line inside chat { } that renders a small chip at the bottom of the card. Docs

target β€” Inside an action, refers to the currently targeted Foundry token. Guard with if (target is SomeType). Docs

theme { } β€” Block inside config for system-wide style tokens (colors, fonts, borders). Also usable as theme: on individual fields. Docs

time β€” A field that stores a real-world time value. Docs

tracker β€” A slimmed-down resource field with multiple visual styles (bar, segmented, clock…). Docs


U

unlocked β€” Visibility shorthand. The field is always read/write for everyone with read access. Docs

User.isGM β€” Boolean expression that is true when the person clicking is a Gamemaster. Docs

User.name β€” String expression with the current user's display name. Docs

userColors = β€” Config option. Set false to disable per-document color pickers and lock the system theme. Docs

value: β€” Parameter on most field types. When set, the field always equals this result (static or computed). Makes the field read-only. Docs

visibility: β€” Parameter on any field or action. Accepts a Visibility.X constant or a method block returning one, for conditional show/hide/lock logic. Docs

Visibility.default β€” Show for all; edit in Edit Mode only. The assumed value when nothing is returned. Docs

Visibility.edit β€” Visible and editable only in Edit Mode. Docs

Visibility.gmOnly β€” Only visible to GMs. Docs

Visibility.hidden β€” Not rendered on the sheet at all. Docs

Visibility.locked β€” Read-only for everyone; Active Effects cannot edit. Docs

Visibility.play β€” Visible and usable only in Play Mode. Docs

Visibility.readonly β€” Visible to all; never clickable or editable. Docs

Visibility.secret β€” Hidden from non-owner viewers. Docs

Visibility.unlocked β€” Always read/write for everyone with read access. Docs


W

wait β€” Pauses an action for a given duration. wait 3 seconds. Docs

when: β€” Parameter on status declarations. A condition expression that auto-applies the status when true. Docs

where: β€” Filter expression on table, inventory, and document-choice fields. item is the alias for each element being tested. Docs

wide β€” Line inside chat { } that renders the expression full-width. Docs

width { } / height { } β€” Theme blocks for constraining a field's or container's dimensions. Field-only tokens (not valid in global config { theme }). Docs

wounds β€” Modifier on resource that marks it as a wounds-style pool (empty = fine, full = in trouble) with a blue/teal gradient. Docs


Z

zoom: β€” Parameter on actor/item declarations. Scales the sheet contents by a percentage. Docs
