Vasudha v0.1.0 — first public release.

An offline engineering assistant that computes its answers instead of guessing them. Runs entirely on your machine.

Install

Download Vasudha-windows-x64.zip, unzip anywhere, run Vasudha.exe.

This is a portable build, not an installer — nothing is written to Program Files or the registry. On first launch it downloads the model once (2.11 GB, resumable and checksum-verified). After that it works with no internet at all.

Windows 10 or 11. No Python, no Ollama, no setup. If you already run Ollama, Vasudha finds it and uses your GPU automatically.

Why it exists

Small local models are confidently wrong about arithmetic. They write the right equation, substitute the right numbers, then state a result off by a factor of ten — because they are predicting text, not calculating.

Vasudha lets the model choose the equation and makes a real Python interpreter do the arithmetic. You can open the working and see the exact code that ran.

Six numeric engineering problems, ground truth computed in Python, greedy decoding. Reproduce it: python scripts/bench_numeric.py.

In this release

  • Calculation with visible working — the computation is the justification
  • Web search and page reading, with the query shown whenever one leaves your machine
  • Documents, spreadsheets and pages in a preview canvas, with export
  • Source tracking enforced by the app: a document written without opening a real page is labelled unverified, and a citation the model did not earn is removed
  • Four personalities, editable as plain JSON
  • Chat history, settings, resizable window

Known limitations

Documented rather than hidden:

  • It can recall a standard formula with the wrong boundary condition — PL³/(48EI) for a cantilever instead of PL³/(3EI). Check the equation it shows you, not just the number.
  • Magnitude errors of exactly 10× or 1000× in both arithmetic and recalled facts.
  • Research is weaker than calculation. Treat document output as a draft.

The calculation path is the trustworthy one. Research and documents are useful and experimental, in that order.
