Release list
Tagcast 0.70.2
Tagcast 0.70.2 is a small follow-up to 0.70.0, focused on playlist playback and clearer controls and feedback.
Playlist playback
- Shuffle playlist starts a mixed play queue without changing the saved playlist order. Play playlist retains ordinary ordered playback. For playlists over 10,000 tracks, both actions use the current page.
- The playing track is now marked in playlist rows with the same background, accent stripe and speaker icon as album tracks. The marker follows playback changes and remains visible when returning to the playlist.
Search and online sources
- Search fields offer a Clear search button while they contain text. Clearing returns focus to the field and preserves filters, sorting and existing choices. In dialogs with an explicit Search or Find button, clearing only changes the query.
- Settings → Online sources & keys lets you turn individual metadata and image suggestion providers off and on. All are selected by default; disabling a provider preserves its key. Artist biographies and album information retain their separate switches.
Activity feedback and documentation
- Reviewed saves, artwork changes, playlist/folder operations, CSV import, Cleanup, tag operations and album trash now show a compact activity indicator while requests and verification are active. The Checking saves… badge uses the same cue. Reduced motion is respected; no percentage is invented.
- The Wiki includes a screenshot walkthrough of CSV playlist import and playlist cover comparison, including an explanation of full-library verification after a cover change.

Tagcast 0.70.0
Tagcast 0.70.0 adds CSV playlist import, complete metadata exports, playlist covers
and folders, separate artist credits and optional album and artist background texts.
The Electron desktop apps and Python/browser version share all these features.
Import and organise playlists
- Import CSV/TSV files, map columns and match tracks against your loaded library.
Track title and performing artist are required; album, album artist, duration,
year and track number can improve matching. - Unique exact matches are selected automatically. Unresolved records explain
differences and offer suggestions and a library search for manual selection. - Create a playlist from the selected matches without resolving every remaining
row. The final review shows which records will be omitted. - Export unresolved records with their original columns and order for later
review or re-import. Download before closing the import dialog; drafts are not
retained across restarts. - Browse native playlist folders, create and rename folders, and review adding
or removing playlist references. Change a playlist cover after comparing images. - Open playlists above 10,000 tracks in pages of 100. Large-playlist playback uses
the current page; full-content editing remains limited to 10,000 tracks.
Complete library metadata export
- Settings → Export library metadata prepares JSON or a ZIP of linked CSVs.
Exports include separate album artists, ordered credit roles and phrases, exact
genres, native IDs, ratings and upload dates, plus available optional tags,
playlists, folders and local favourites. - Export uses the loaded library without extra iBroadcast requests or metadata
writes. Reload first for a fresh snapshot. Audio, images, credentials and provider
prose are excluded. This metadata archive has no restore function. - Schema 2 correctly separates playlist-folder references from music track IDs,
preserving playlist order and repeated positions.
Artists, credits and favourites
- Edit additional album artists and full track credits, including composer,
lyricist, conductor and other native roles, with optional credit phrases.
Existing IDs, order and unfamiliar roles are preserved until explicitly changed. - Choose existing artists, genres and composers from local searchable suggestions,
or type a new name. Choosing a suggestion changes only the draft. - Cleanup → Album artists previews semicolon-separated names, keeps the first
primary and saves the rest as separate additional artists after approval.
Existing separate credits are preserved; writes use checked, bounded batches. - One Favourites page has Tracks, Albums and Album artists tabs. Album and
artist hearts are local per account, independently of native iBroadcast stars. - Rate album artists with native stars. Sort artists and albums by rating, and
albums by upload date. Track thumbs-down uses native rating 1; the heart uses 5.
A dislike does not skip a track or remove music.
Background texts and browsing
- Optional TheAudioDB artist biographies and album information are off by default.
They load only for visited artists/albums and are cached locally. No Premium key
is bundled or required for these lookups. - Available bundled 1001 Albums texts take priority over TheAudioDB, including
when the discovery page is disabled or no analysis has been run. Attribution
and license links stay visible. The reference catalogue also has reviewed
title, credit and release-year corrections. - Album artists and Albums each have one Filter and sort menu. Empty filters are
omitted while the current choice and All remain reachable. - A visible message and moving progress bar show library loading and reloading.
The bar has no percentage because the request does not provide reliable progress. - The Sound button has a speaker-cabinet icon, player colours follow the palette
where supported, and track rows, breadcrumbs and back-button spacing are refined. - Export changes is now in Settings → Change history. Electron's Help
menu opens the GitHub Wiki.
Reliability
- Concurrent API requests, streaming and artwork uploads share token refresh;
delayed failures and credential saves cannot overwrite a newer connection. - Genre validation consistently accepts up to 200 Unicode characters per label
and 20 labels per track. Oversized input is reported and retained for editing,
rather than silently shortened. - Artist-profile, rating and stale-response fixes preserve drafts, current
playback and account boundaries. Accepted writes continue to be read back.

Tagcast 0.60.0
Tagcast 0.60.0 brings the editor and player to their own desktop window, with
Electron apps for macOS, Windows and Linux. Python/source installations keep the
browser interface. Both routes share the same Tagcast server, interface and
iBroadcast integration.
Tagcast on the desktop
- Standalone apps use Electron 44.9.0, with standard menus, zoom, fullscreen
and system playback controls supported by Chromium and the operating system. - Python and dependencies are bundled. No browser, Python or Node.js installation
is needed for the desktop download. The browser CLI remains included. - Closing the app stops only its own server, after accepted writes and read-back
checks finish. A matching server already running is reused and left running. - Existing account settings, sign-in tokens, cache and local album favourites
remain in~/.tagcast/, orTAGCAST_HOME. - Electron has its own Chromium profile. Browser-local preferences and Change
history are separate from Safari/Chrome/Brave and are not copied automatically. - Audio outputs still depend on the platform. Electron does not add native Sonos
support or Safari's AirPlay picker; the shared Sound dialog retains volume,
mute and the available output choices.
Album favourites and ratings are independent
- The album heart now marks a local, account-scoped favourite without changing
the album's stars. Changing stars never toggles the heart. - Existing active five-star albums are imported once to preserve the earlier
favourite list. Later ratings do not add favourites automatically. - Album favourites are shared by Tagcast instances using the same local settings
folder; they are not synced to iBroadcast or another computer. - Track hearts retain their existing native iBroadcast rating behaviour.
Quieter tracklists and mobile album pages
- Album tracklists omit repeated album-artist credits. A second line appears for
distinct performers, composers, tags or a different stored file format. - The common format is shown with the track summary. Different formats receive
an amber label, so an MP3 among FLACs is easy to spot. No audio is downloaded
to determine formats or quality. - The playing track shows a speaker in place of its number and a subtle background.
Actions appear on hover or keyboard focus; filled favourite hearts stay visible.
Touch devices keep row actions visible. - On mobile, the cover fills the available width above the title, artist, metadata
and playback controls.

Quit the older Tagcast before starting 0.60.0. Electron rejects an older server
on its port rather than displaying the old application. Browser/source users can
continue with Python 3.11+, uv and the existing start scripts. The app does not
install updates automatically.
For Homebrew, quit Tagcast, then run brew update and
brew upgrade --cask cyberdeliaAI/apps/tagcast after the tap update is available.
All earlier editing, tags, reviewed cleanup, playlists and playback features stay
available. Tagcast never changes your local music files.
Tagcast 0.50.0
Tagcast 0.50.0 brings a refreshed look, native iBroadcast tags and more ways to
listen and clean up your collection. All features are included in the standalone
downloads for macOS, Windows and Linux.
A refreshed Tagcast
- A cassette-in-sleeve icon, a compact sidebar and distinct navigation icons give
Tagcast a new identity. The version now sits beside Settings, with the original
Powered by iBroadcast logo in the footer. - Album pages align the cover and title consistently, combine genres and tags in
one compact row and keep unrated hearts and stars neutral. Clear appears only
when an album has a rating. Edit is shorter; Move to trash lives in the ⋯ menu. - Clickable breadcrumbs show where you opened an album, including its artist,
tag, genre or 1001 Albums context. The release year opens the matching year. - About this album uses a narrower reading width. Double-click enlargement stays
available on album-detail covers; overview covers open their album immediately. - Updated screenshots and a downloadable media kit
include the new logos, icons and social preview.
Native iBroadcast tags
- Browse Tags separately from genres, including empty and archived labels.
- Use + Tag on an album or manage a track's tags. Review additions and removals
before saving; partial album assignments can be kept as they are. - Create an empty tag, rename it or review its deletion. Deleting a tag removes
only the label, never music. Archived tags remain visible and cannot be added here. - Tag changes are checked against the current library and read back after saving.
They remain separate from metadata edits and Change history Undo.
Reviewed cleanup across albums
- Select complete albums in the collection or an artist's page, including filtered
results such as 1–2 tracks, then review their tracks for iBroadcast's trash.
Selection survives paging and filter changes. Metadata editing stays limited to
one album or one album artist. - Analyse suggested duplicate copies across the library explicitly, exclude albums
or tracks and review the proposal before processing bounded batches. Saved progress
can be resumed after fresh checks and explicit approval. - Suggestions prefer FLAC over MP3, then the newest upload in the same format.
Uncertain comparisons remain for manual review. This compares stored metadata,
not audio identity or recording quality. - Every trash action requires review and read-back checks. Tagcast never deletes
permanently. Random playback is hidden for cleanup filters and active selections.
Playback and sound
- Compact, aligned Play and + buttons play or queue an album from its card
without opening it. - The player's Sound dialog keeps volume and mute accessible alongside outputs
made available by your browser. Supported browsers offer output selection;
Safari can offer its native AirPlay picker. Availability depends on the browser
and device; system sound settings remain available elsewhere. - Supported system media controls handle play, pause, previous/next and seeking,
with track information and playback position. The existing player and queue
remain in use, without restarting audio when an output dialog opens.

Tagcast 0.42.0
Tagcast 0.42.0 adds new ways to discover your collection, understand each page and
compare duplicate uploads before cleaning up. All features are included in the
standalone downloads for macOS, Windows and Linux.
1001 Albums: discover the albums you already own
- Enable 1001 Albums in Settings → Discovery, then choose Analyse my library.
The optional page compares the cleaned 1,001-album selection with your loaded
library metadata. Opening the page never starts an analysis. - Browse found, possible and missing matches; filter by decade, search and sort
by release year. Confirm a possible match or choose your library edition manually.
Account-scoped results and manual links are saved locally, without editing iBroadcast. - Open a confirmed match for About this album, with an offline background text,
Wikipedia attribution and CC BY-SA license link. All 1,001 entries have a text. - The selection credits 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, edited by
Robert Dimery. Missing entries use grey, softened placeholder covers. - Show matching details hides status/link controls when you want a quieter page.
Its choice survives restarts and changes of local port or browser.
Compare duplicate uploads before removing copies
- Duplicate tracks now finds repeated positive track numbers on the same disc,
including different title/version text. Duplicated appears on album cards,
list rows and the affected track titles. Separate discs remain separate. - Move to trash… shows upload dates/times, date/format groups and suggested
keep/trash labels. The preference is FLAC over MP3, then the newest upload
within the same format. Different artists or clearly different durations,
unknown formats and unresolved upload ties remain for manual comparison. - Select suggested copies fills the checkboxes explicitly. Adjust the selection,
review the exact tracks, then confirm. The original Select extra copies action
retains its stricter title match and keeps the first copy. - Suggestions compare stored metadata, not audio identity or recording quality.
Tagcast only moves confirmed tracks to iBroadcast's trash; it never deletes permanently.
Help and browsing
- A compact ? starts a step-by-step tour for the current page or editor.
Tours explain the screen without starting playback, analysis or saves. - Settings can hide optional sidebar shortcuts, change their order and restore defaults.
Connection controls, Settings and essential pages stay reachable. - The Decades overview drops unnecessary sort/page controls. Opening a decade shows
a short introduction to its music, alongside your random album selection.

Tagcast 0.41.1
Tagcast 0.41.1 makes signing in easier: new users can connect directly without
creating an iBroadcast app or entering a client ID. The change is included in all
standalone downloads for macOS, Windows and Linux.
Direct sign-in
- Tagcast includes its public OAuth client ID. Click Connect iBroadcast, then
Sign in with a code and approve access on the iBroadcast website. Your
password stays on iBroadcast; no client secret is required or bundled. - Existing saved client IDs, environment overrides and their connections are
preserved. Nothing is migrated automatically. To switch an older saved
registration, first Disconnect, then choose Use Tagcast sign-in and
sign in again. Existing custom configurations retain browser-redirect sign-in. - Optional queue synchronisation uses code sign-in to request its additional
permissions with the shared registration. During reauthorization, Tagcast waits
for the new approval even if the previous session is still connected. - The README includes the simplified instructions and a new sign-in screenshot.
iBroadcast Support confirmed that Tagcast may distribute its public client ID
while its Apps-page review is pending. This is not a claim of listing or endorsement.

Tagcast 0.41.0
Tagcast 0.41.0 makes album editing safer and browsing and playback less cluttered.
All changes are included in the standalone downloads for macOS, Windows and Linux.
Album editing
- Various Artists is now an explicit checkbox in the album editor. It uses
iBroadcast's native compilation album artist, while preserving each track's
artists and credits. It also works for all discs of a displayed set and for
selected albums by one album artist. Changes still require a draft review. - Album and track years must be 1800–2050, inclusive. 0 or an empty field
clears the year. Future releases are allowed, and both the editor and server
reject out-of-range edits. The same check covers online suggestions and applying
an album year to its tracks. An existing unusual year can remain unchanged while
correcting other metadata.
Browsing and player appearance
- Album artists → Sort → Random shuffles the full artist list before paging.
Searching, filtering, paging and Back preserve that order. Choose a name sort
and then Random again to reshuffle. Sorting uses the existing album summaries. - Album cards show plain metadata such as 1985 · 11 tracks · album, including
browse groups and Album favourites. Named editions keep their edition label;
missing-metadata warnings and multi-disc information remain visible. - Settings → Interface has independent options to show file format and
stream quality and track artists in the compact player. Both are on by
default. Changes apply immediately and are remembered in this browser without
restarting playback or changing the queue. Album/track pages and fullscreen
Now playing retain their information. Hiding the quality label does not change
the stream quality.

Tagcast 0.40.0
Tagcast 0.40.0 adds streaming quality controls, native album ratings and playlists,
Play next and repeat, optional listening history, cover enlargement and optional
queue synchronisation. All features are included in the standalone downloads for
macOS, Windows and Linux.
Playback and streaming quality
- Settings → Playback → Streaming quality chooses MP3 96/128/192/256/320 kbps
or Original. Free accounts use 128 kbps; every other choice requires Premium.
The preference applies to the next track. The player distinguishes the uploaded
File format from the requested Stream quality. If Original cannot play
in your browser, Tagcast tries MP3 128 kbps once and labels the fallback. - The + ▾ menu offers Add to queue, Play next and, for a single track,
Add to playlist…. Album actions include every disc in order. Play next keeps
additions in click order and returns to the original queue afterwards. - Repeat cycles Off → Queue → Track, preserving album order. Save as
playlist… keeps the queue as a native playlist after review. - Double-click a cover in the album grid/list, album details or the player to
open a lightbox. Larger artwork loads on demand; Escape, × or the backdrop
closes it without changing playback or browser history.
Album ratings and playlists
- Albums have native 0–5 star ratings and a favourite heart. Album
favourites lists five-star albums; a merged set appears when every disc is
rated five. Requested stars/hearts appear immediately with saving/checking
feedback. Confirmation updates the page without a manual refresh. - Playlists supports creating private playlists, playing them in order,
renaming, reviewing track removals, adding an album and saving/appending the
queue. A track's + ▾ → Add to playlist… adds only that track; Now playing
also offers Add this track to playlist…. - Delete playlist… reviews the name and track count before deleting the
playlist definition. Its music stays in your library and playback continues.
System playlists and folders are protected. - Collection writes check the current values and read back the result. Changed
previews are rejected; uncertain creation, append or deletion requests are
never automatically retried. Ratings and playlists stay separate from metadata
Change history and its Undo.
Settings and optional iBroadcast listening history
- Sources & keys is now Settings. The library information banner has a
dismiss button; restore it through Settings → Interface. The preference
stays in this browser. - Record played tracks in iBroadcast is off by default. When enabled,
Tagcast sends a track ID and timestamp after more than ten seconds of actual
listening. Pauses, buffering and seeks do not count; earlier plays and skips
are not sent. Uncertain requests are not retried automatically. Tagcast itself
does not send Last.fm scrobbles. - Enabling reporting shows Recently played, using iBroadcast's native recent
tracks playlist, including plays from other devices. Search, paging and manual
refresh are available. Each track appears once, most recent first; iBroadcast
supplies no play timestamps in this playlist. - Metadata History is now Change history, with Export changes, to
distinguish saved edits from listening history.
Optional queue synchronisation and remote control
- Settings → Devices & queue synchronisation enables a separate extension,
off by default and independent of play reporting. Reconnect iBroadcast to
approve the additional queue read/write permissions, then explicitly connect
through Devices. - Restore a saved queue with an explicit choice to play, or control an available
device's queue, playback, position, volume and repeat. A controller pauses local
audio, reports no plays and never advances the remote track on its own. - One browser tab owns the connection. WebSocket and OAuth tokens stay on the
local server; reconnects obtain fresh one-use tokens. Library notifications
offer a manual reload. Device compatibility depends on its active iBroadcast
session and approved queue permissions.
Appearance and duplicate detection
- The original Powered by iBroadcast branding is compact at the bottom of
the sidebar; the version appears beside Tagcast at the top. Navigation icons
use a consistent style. - Duplicate candidates now ignore straight/curly quotation-mark differences as
well as case and spacing. The same positive track number and disc are still
required; version text and other punctuation remain significant. Candidates
are metadata matches, not an audio or quality comparison. Trash moves still
require review and never delete permanently. - The README includes the latest feature instructions, screenshots and Homebrew
installation steps. Source start scripts upgrade an older environment when
the new WebSocket dependency is missing.

Tagcast 0.30.0
Tagcast 0.30.0 adds reviewed batch metadata cleanup, full random album playback,
fullscreen Now playing and colour palettes. All features are included in the
standalone downloads for macOS, Windows and Linux.
Reviewed metadata cleanup
- Open Overview → Metadata health → Clean up metadata… to split combined
genres, track artists or composers across your active library. Only
semicolons are split; slashes, commas and ampersands stay intact. Album artists
and unrelated metadata remain unchanged. - Preview the before/after values, exclude albums and export the report, then
explicitly approve and start. Batches contain at most 200 tracks from
20 displayed albums. Each batch checks current values and reads accepted
changes back before sending the next one. - Review genre labels searches exact stored labels. Rename one label, replace
it with multiple labels entered one per line, or explicitly remove it while
preserving each track's other genres. A label such asFilms/Gamesis never
automatically split. Empty replacement text alone cannot delete a label. - Progress distinguishes confirmed, outstanding and unconfirmed tracks. Conflicts,
request errors or unconfirmed writes stop processing. Stop/resume and an
account-scoped local report make long jobs reviewable; resume rechecks current
values. There is no batch Undo. - Additional performers now participate in Track artists browsing, search and
track/player links, independently of composer credits.
Album playback and appearance
- Play random album starts a complete album in track/disc order from your
filtered collection, an album artist, genre, composer, track artist, year or
decade. It chooses across all pages and the full matching decade, replaces
the queue and avoids the current album when alternatives exist. - Fullscreen Now playing focuses on the cover and track information, keeping
the same audio element and controls. Escape returns to browsing. Browsers that
cannot enter native fullscreen use a window-filling view. - The Theme menu offers Forest, Ocean, Warm and iBroadcast inspired colours,
independently of Auto, Light and Dark appearance. Preferences remain local
to the browser; changing them keeps playback running. - Album cards use a compact queue + and aligned information rows. Collection
and artist totals emphasize albums, with track counts below, reusing summaries. - Known original file formats, such as FLAC and MP3, appear below track
durations on album pages, track search and Favourites. No extra requests are
needed; these labels do not describe the stream's bitrate or resolution.
Library and launcher improvements
- Disc grouping now also compares album year and the set of active-track upload
dates. Different years or dates keep albums separate. This is display grouping,
not a release identifier, and does not split uploads already inside one
iBroadcast album. - Duplicate candidates require the same positive track number and title within
one disc. Repeated titles at different positions are no longer marked as
duplicates. Audio and recording quality are not compared; trash still requires
review and never deletes permanently. - The desktop launcher remembers Open browser automatically, enabled by
default. Untick it for wrappers such as Unite Pro; the manual browser button
remains available. Closing the launcher stops only a server it started. - Clearer Apple Music / iTunes source labels and quieter handling of browser
requests that close before the server responds. - The README includes current installation instructions, cleanup guidance and
new screenshots showing these features.

not report plays or Last.fm scrobbles; the queue remains in this browser session.
Tagcast 0.20.0
Tagcast 0.20.0 expands browsing and playback while keeping the reviewed metadata
editing workflow. Standalone desktop downloads include Python and dependencies;
the main interface stays in your browser.
Browse your collection
-
New Track artists, Composers, Genres and Release year overviews show album
and track counts. Choose a card to browse its matching albums, then open an
album to play or edit it. Multi-disc sets stay together. -
Genres include main and additional labels as stored in iBroadcast. Release
year uses the track year, falling back to the album year; missing years have
an Unknown year group. Genre names on an album link to matching albums. -
Favourites use iBroadcast's native track ratings. Hearts on album tracks,
search results and the player add rating 5 or clear it to 0. Replacing a lower
rating requires confirmation; every write is checked against iBroadcast and
read back. The Favourites page supports search and pagination. -
The player links to the album artist and album. A third line appears when
the track artist differs and opens albums featuring that track artist. -
Now playing shows a large cover and the play queue. Add individual tracks
or entire albums without interrupting playback. Clear queue & stop stops
audio and removes all queued tracks. The queue stays in this browser session. -
Decades offers random album discoveries for periods such as 1980s and 2020s.
Use Surprise me again for another selection; Back preserves your selection.
Interface and history
- A more compact sidebar, aligned navigation icons and a mobile hamburger menu
keep all pages and connection settings accessible. - Clearer album sorting includes both alphabetical directions and track counts.
- A simpler Live indicator and a red trash button with an icon make status
and actions easier to distinguish; trash still requires review and confirmation. - Clear history removes this browser's history and Undo information after
confirmation. Export a copy first if needed. It does not revert saved changes. - Artwork Undo no longer offers to restore an image when there was no previous
image. Deferred read-back results no longer overwrite an artist image Undo.
Update notifications
Tagcast checks GitHub for a newer stable release at startup, at most once a day.
A notification opens the release page and downloads; installation stays manual.
Use Sources & keys → Tagcast updates to check immediately or disable automatic
checks. No account credentials or library data are sent to GitHub.
