Released 10/28/25, Compatible with vanilla patch 1.18.X

Besides updating to the 1.18 and the new All Under Heaven DLC, and inspired partly by Halloween season, VIET 1.18.0 also adds several new events inspired by Pu Songling's Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio (聊斋志异), a collection of supernatural short stories written during the Qing Dynasty, considered the masterpiece of this genre of East Asian classical literature analogous to Western Gothic literature. It's one of my favorite books, and I'm glad to finally start bringing it to the world of VIET!

I thank Paradox Interactive for giving me early access, which gave me a head start for this massive update.

Installation Instructions

DO NOT manually download the master branch unless you know what you're doing as it is a WIP version and not necessarily stable!

  1. Go to https://github.com/cybrxkhan/VIET-Events-for-CK3/releases and find the latest version you wish to download.
  2. Extract the "VIET" folder and "VIET.mod" file from the .zip file to Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III\mod
  3. Launch CKIII and select VIET in the launcher.
  4. Enjoy and play!

The mod folder should look something like this:

NOTE: If you are re-installing a mod, delete the old version of the mod first before copy and pasting the new one! While it's not always necessary, it's a good habit to do to prevent any potential issues.

New events added in this version: 7

  • Added 7 events inspired by Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio (聊斋志异)
  • Added many new Asian-themed event backgrounds
  • Added English placeholders for new Japanese translation version
  • Tweaked various county events to not happen to the new county admin titles
  • Reworked geographical region triggers for many events to account for the newly added parts of Asia
  • Reworked the following events to be travel events: VIETmisc.0196, VIETmisc.0199, VIETmisc.0208, VIETmisc.0212, VIETmisc.0213, VIETmisc.0216
  • Fixed rumors of an island beyond Japan event being less likely in Asia as opposed to Africa/Europe (it’s supposed to be the other way around)
  • Fixed missing grammatical article loc for the names of activities
  • Miscellaneous bugfixes/tweaks
