Windows Beta.2

This recommended release fixes some important usability and stability bugs.

Note for multi-language/layout users: before starting Mouseless, make sure your system input language/layout is set to the one you want to use in the overlay/keymap. Setting the layout within the app will be implemented soon.

Fixes

  • Fixed certain non-English characters causing the app to crash (#252)
  • Mouseless now automatically handles Windows setting for swapping left/right mouse buttons (#270)
  • Fixed tap commands being invoked beyond the tap threshold (#264)
  • Fixed custom monitor assignments (of grid configs)
  • Fixed issue with show overlay / enter free mode being erroneously triggered when a modifier is held and another key is tapped more than once (e.g. Alt+tab tab triggering Alt tap-assigned command) (#269, #271)
  • When multiple grid configs present, fixed some issues with overlay initialization on app startup
  • Fixed move up/down/left/right not triggering if hold for speed increase/decrease is held first

Enhancements

  • Added 'Show welcome tutorial` item to the system tray menu
  • Added logging of network connection errors

Known issues

Stability / Usability

  • Mouseless may crash after sleep or hibernate
  • Some users are unable to use the app due to a few different issues
    • Issues:
      • Blank window when starting up
      • Buttons in UI do not respond to clicks
      • Network connection error when starting a trial
    • Improving diagnostics for these issues is a top priority for the next release (thank you for your patience!)

Overlay

  • Overlay may not show above system elements (e.g. start menu, task bar) or admin-elevated windows (solution forthcoming in near future)
  • Windows with content behind the task bar, may appear above the task bar when the overlay is shown

Input responsiveness

  • May not work in VMs, remote desktop sessions, or admin-elevated windows
  • Invoking overlay on admin-elevated windows (even system tray menus for elevated programs) may cause hotkeys to stop responding
  • Numpad keys, Arrow keys, and other special keys may not register properly

Mouse output

  • Modifier+clicks not yet working (e.g. holding shift while clicking to multi-select files in file explorer)
  • Sometimes 3 clicks are required for a double click to register; 5 for a triple click
  • Free mode
    • Modifier keys in the left/right/middle mouse button commands seem to not have an effect -- i.e. if you set one to ctrl+Space it gets triggered just by pressing Space
    • Easing is affected by screen refresh rate (lower rate -> more easing)
    • If the move up/down/left/right commands are held at the edge of a screen, and the opposite direction is then pressed without a break (>= 0.5 seconds) in movement, you may notice a delay before the cursor moves away from edge of screen

Misc

  • When CapsLock is used in a keybinding, CapsLock state switching may not be blocked as desired
