Comfort 1.1.9
Comfort 1.1.9
New
- Choose the audio format. Save songs and audio as MP3, M4A, Opus or FLAC, or keep the site's original audio untouched. Set a default in Settings > Processing, or pick it for one download from the chip in the download sheet. Spotify songs follow it too.
- Even out volume. An option to level every song to the same loudness, so a quiet track isn't followed by a blaring one.
- Exact trims. Trimmed videos and songs now cut exactly where you set them, instead of at the nearest keyframe a few seconds off.
- MP4 that plays everywhere. With MP4 chosen, videos that only come as VP9 or AV1 (most Instagram Reels, YouTube above 1080p) are converted to H.264 on your phone's video encoder instead of being saved as MKV.
- Compress video. Library ⋮ > Compress video makes a smaller 1080p, 720p or 480p copy next to the original.
- Save WebP pictures as JPG. An option for pictures that some apps can't open or share; animated ones stay as they are.
These come from a new, much more capable FFmpeg build inside the app (it used to only be able to repackage files). The arm64 download is about 2.5 MB bigger; the 32-bit (armeabi-v7a) one is much smaller, as it no longer carries a separate 30 MB FFmpeg library bundle.
Fixed
- Undo after deleting several downloads in the Queue no longer leaves running ones cancelled.
- A slow first preview no longer leaves a single video in a "1 of 1 selected" picker without Trim; Retry opens the normal sheet.
- Downloads Android stops in the background are put back in the queue instead of looking stuck on "Downloading".
- Choosing a new download folder keeps access to the files already saved in the old one.
- Pasting cookies whose tabs became spaces works again.
- Cookies are kept out of cloud backups and device transfers.
- Tapping anywhere on a Settings toggle row flips it, and the options a toggle reveals slide open instead of popping in.
- Many smaller reliability and accessibility fixes across the app.
Downloads

Comfort 1.1.8
Comfort 1.1.8
New
- Download from any website. "Browse the web" on Home opens Comfort's own browser. Go to a page with a video or pictures, and the media button in the bottom bar counts what the page loads; tap it to see the list, best match first, and download any of it. It works on sites the download engines don't support, including streamed (HLS) video.
- A better built-in browser (also used to sign in to sites): back, forward, find in page, desktop site, share, copy link, full-screen video, pinch zoom, and a proper page when something can't load.
- Launcher shortcuts: long-press Comfort's icon for Paste & download, Library, Download queue and Search Library.
- Queue cards say more: when a scheduled download starts ("Starts at 1:00 AM · in 3 h 20 min"), how far a paused one got, the link on every card (tap to open, long-press to copy), and a clear notice on Home and in the Queue when downloads are waiting for a network connection.
Faster and smaller
- The app is about 10 MB smaller, by leaving out parts of the bundled Python the downloaders never use.
- Spotify downloads start in about half the time. A song's details and its YouTube match are remembered, and looked up while the preview is open.
- yt-dlp runs first by default, so videos start sooner. Sites that only gallery-dl knows skip it entirely.
Fixed
- Reddit galleries saved only 2 of their pictures: every item now gets its own name.
- Direct image links (like i.redd.it) no longer fail with a "filename format" error.
- Redgifs videos shared on Reddit are named after the Reddit post instead of just "redgifs".
- The app icon is the current one everywhere, including the launcher icon in this APK.
- Grid tiles in the Library have the ⋮ menu, deleted downloads get "Download again" and "Remove from Library", and Share sends the real file.
- Undoing a swipe-delete in the Library or Queue no longer leaves a broken row.
- Only one notification while downloading.
- Error messages: a real error from one engine is no longer hidden by another's "no video here".

Comfort 1.1.7
Fixed
- Status bar icons are readable on every theme. If Comfort's theme didn't match your phone's (a light theme with the phone in dark mode, or the other way round), the clock and battery icons could turn white on a white page, or dark on a dark one. They now always follow Comfort's own theme, including the startup screen, the share sheet and when you switch themes in Appearance.

Smaller storage footprint
- The app's cache stays small. It could grow past 250 MB; it now stays at a few MB.
- Downloaded preview pictures are capped at 50 MB.
- Saved preview data is deleted after an hour.
- Updates you've already installed are deleted.
- The sign-in browser's saved pages are cleared each time the app starts. You stay signed in: logins are kept separately.

Comfort 1.1.5
New
- Choose your engines. Settings › Updates and engines lets you turn yt-dlp, gallery-dl and Instaloader on or off, and set the order they try a link.
- Pick the engine for one download from the Configure sheet.
- Sites editor. See every site each engine supports (gallery-dl only, yt-dlp only, or both), search the lists, and move a site to another list or add your own.
- Lyrics for songs. Downloaded songs get their lyrics from LRCLIB, saved inside the file. Synced (time-stamped) lyrics are the default; choose plain or off in Settings › Processing. Synced lyrics can also be saved as a .lrc file next to the song.
- Carousels save all at once. A multi-picture post lands in your gallery together when it finishes, with the first picture first, instead of one picture at a time.
Where your downloads go
- Everything now saves to Download/Comfort, sorted into Pictures, Videos, Music and Other (info files). Subtitles sit beside their videos and .lrc lyrics beside their songs.
- Your existing downloads are moved there automatically the first time you open the app. The Library keeps working with them.
Better file names
- X (Twitter) posts are named after the poster and their text, not "twitter - twitter", and no longer repeat the poster's name or include t.co links. A post that's only a link is named after the poster.
- Reddit and other gallery-dl sites use the poster's name instead of the site's.
- Shorter IDs. Long post IDs at the end of names become a 6-character code:
Shitpost_2048 [1eglnp].mkvinstead of a 19-digit number. YouTube IDs are unchanged. - Existing files and Library titles are tidied to the new style once, automatically.
- "Restrict filenames" is now off by default, so names keep their spaces.
Library
- Back turns off an active filter chip (Deleted, Favourites, Duplicates, Audio) before leaving the page.
- Deleted view: "Clear all".
- Songs deleted outside the app now move to Deleted, and a download whose file comes back returns to the Library.
- The list view's duration badge is back in the thumbnail's corner.

Comfort 1.1.4
New
- Gallery-style Library grid. Edge-to-edge rows where every thumbnail keeps its real shape, like your phone's gallery. Pinch to switch between three tile sizes.
- Badges on the grid: ▶ on videos, ♪ on audio, the video's quality (720p, 1080p, 4K…), the file size, your ★ favourites, and the item count on multi-item downloads. The list view shows each video's length on its thumbnail.
- Tablet and landscape support: a side navigation rail and centred content on wide screens.
- File sizes before you download, for gallery-dl and Instagram items, and per quality in the preview.
- Preview shows the uploader, and share links get a real listing.
Faster and more reliable
- Reddit videos download faster. No more wasted gallery-dl pass on video posts, single-file formats preferred over segmented ones, and 4 parallel fragments by default.
- No more 6-minute hangs when Reddit rate-limits. Listings give up after 20–30 s; the preview falls back to yt-dlp, the download goes straight to yt-dlp, and the queue card says "Rate-limited by Reddit — waiting until 21:19" if a wait does happen.
- Spotify downloads work again.
- Engines auto-update reliably. They stay updated across app updates and install one at a time, safely.
- Subtitles never fail a download any more.
- Fixed queue hangs when pausing or scheduling, aria2 breaking TLS impersonation, and network errors that were being hidden.
- Instagram downloads show progress instead of jumping straight to done.
Smaller fixes
- Videos are saved with the download date, not the upload date.
- Titles no longer repeat the uploader ("Rick Astley - Rick Astley - …").
- Picking items: posts whose items share a number now select correctly.
- Closing the keyboard ends editing in a text field, and the Library and Settings search icons open the keyboard straight away.
- Status bar icons are readable on the light theme.
- The App Version card in About opens the GitHub page.
Known limits
- Reddit videos don't show a size before downloading (Reddit serves them in segments).

v1.1.3
v1.1.2
What's Fixed in v1.1.2
- Fixed YouTube Music Instant Downloads: Using the "Instant" share action on a music link (like
music.youtube.comor Spotify) now correctly defaults to audio-only mode, bypassing the video downloader. Previously, Instant mode would download these as full MKV video files. - Fixed Pillarboxed Thumbnails on MP3s: The high-res square iTunes cover-art override (which removes YouTube's 16:9 black bars) now fully supports MP3 downloads. Previously, this only applied when your output format was set to M4A/MP4.
v1.1.1
Initial Release (v1.1.1)
Welcome to the first public release! This app is a native, beautifully animated Android frontend powered by gallery-dl, yt-dlp, and Instaloader under the hood.
Here is everything included in the initial launch:
🚀 Core Features
- Multi-Engine Support: Seamlessly downloads media using
gallery-dlandyt-dlp. UsesInstaloadernatively for lightning-fast Instagram posts and reels. - Smart Previews: Features an interactive multi-item preview sheet that distinguishes between pictures and videos, complete with a dedicated audio previewer and custom song cards.
- Native Share Integration: Download directly from other apps using the native Android share sheet, which passes through your item selections and custom title/artist edits.
- In-App Updater: Built-in update checker that automatically detects new GitHub releases, matches your specific device architecture (ABI), and seamlessly installs updates.
🎨 Beautiful Material UI
- Fluid Animations: Built with J2K-style swipe-back transitions. Page transitions smoothly ease back on abandoned swipes, and enter animations slide perfectly into place.
- Dynamic Theming: Fully supports wallpaper-based theming. Queue pills, buttons, and text colors dynamically adapt to your system colors.
- Polished Details: Features a wavy progress bar for active downloads, an Arch-shaped scroll-to-top FAB with a smooth glide in the Library, and a dynamic splash screen that perfectly times its exit to the logo animation.
- Compact Headers: Scroll-linked headers collapse gracefully into the status bar as you scroll, with a subtle scrim that fades in to keep text readable.
⚙️ Advanced Capabilities
- Full Download Control: Supports fetching high-resolution 1440p/4K media and allows passing per-engine custom arguments directly from the app.
- In-App Cookie Browser: Built-in browser to safely extract and use cookies for downloading private or age-restricted media.
- Robust Queue System: Powered by Android's
WorkManagerfor guaranteed execution. You can pause, resume, cancel, or hit "Start Now" to instantly jump the line. - Live Speeds & Smart Retries: Tracks live download speeds across all engines. Downloads automatically pause on stalls and retry on fresh connections (including YouTube gracefully retrying without cookies if a stream is refused).
🛠 Under the Hood
- Lightning Fast Startup: Ships with Baseline Profiles and background Python engine unpacking, ensuring the app cold-starts instantly.
- Battery & Resource Friendly: Strictly uses one unified background job per download, ensuring safe queue repairs and zero zombie processes. Stale cookies and temporary files are automatically swept up in the background.
