User cancellation now returns 130 with the explicit cancelled code, without an unresponsive-Provider warning or a synthetic failed exercise verdict. Cancellation during describe and check releases the instance lock and terminates descendants, verified using actual Ctrl+Break on Windows and SIGINT on POSIX.
Includes the first-start improvements from 2026.10.20.2: a separate 900-second absolute startup deadline, preparation progress, raw stdout/stderr logs, structured infrastructure errors, contained process cleanup and automatic installation of a downloaded course's workspace dependencies. Runtime calls retain the 120-second idle policy; Provider protocol version 1 stays compatible.
Validation: six native CI jobs and ten coordinated course first-use jobs, including Linux without a compiler, macOS ARM64, Windows 2022/2025 and Windows without MSVC. Release archives contain the exact checksum-verified CI candidate binaries; provenance.json records their checkout SHA and archive checksums.
