This release adds a development server manager to Orbit. Save the long-running commands you use every day — dev servers, watchers, backends — and start, stop, and restart them from a new Servers view, with their output streamed into a built-in terminal. As always, everything runs locally with no accounts, no cloud, and no telemetry.
Highlights
- A built-in development server manager with Start, Stop, and Restart
- Live
stdout, stderr, and system output streamed into a built-in terminal - Automatic localhost URL detection, openable in your browser with one click
- Whole process-tree cleanup on stop, so child processes are terminated too
- Server configurations persisted and restored across restarts (never auto-started)
- A searchable project picker when adding or editing a server
- A collapsible sidebar whose state is remembered
- Tooltips that no longer clip inside scrollable regions
Added
- A Servers view for registering development commands and controlling them from Orbit.
- Start, Stop, and Restart with live status (starting, running, stopping, stopped, failed), process id, and exit code or signal.
- A built-in terminal that streams each server's
stdout, stderr, and system messages, with a Clear action and a bounded per-server buffer. - Automatic detection of localhost URLs in server output, which can be opened in the browser directly from the server card.
- Process-tree cleanup on stop so a dev server's child processes are cleaned up too.
- Configurations persisted in
servers.jsonunder the app's user-data directory and restored on launch; servers stay stopped until you start them. - A searchable project picker in the add/edit form, with a manual folder-browse fallback and an auto-filled display name.
- Per-server actions to open in editor, copy path, edit, and remove.
- A collapsible sidebar that persists its state across launches.
- Tooltips now render in a portal and position themselves relative to the viewport, so they are no longer clipped by scrollable containers.
Downloads (Linux)
Pick the file for your distribution from the Assets list at the bottom of this release:
| Format | Recommended for | File |
|---|---|---|
| AppImage | Most users — portable, no install | Orbit-1.1.0.AppImage |
| Debian / Ubuntu | deb-based distros |
Orbit-1.1.0.deb |
| Arch Linux | pacman-based distros |
Orbit-1.1.0.pacman |
Downloaded files go to your downloads folder (usually ~/Downloads), so open a terminal there first. If you saved the file somewhere else, use its full path instead.
cd ~/DownloadsAppImage (portable, no installation)
After Orbit-1.1.0.AppImage is in ~/Downloads:
cd ~/Downloads
chmod +x Orbit-1.1.0.AppImage
./Orbit-1.1.0.AppImageOrbit launches immediately — nothing is installed and you can delete the file when finished. Some systems need FUSE; if the AppImage refuses to start, either install the FUSE 2 libraries for your distro or run it with ./Orbit-1.1.0.AppImage --appimage-extract-and-run.
Debian / Ubuntu
After Orbit-1.1.0.deb is in ~/Downloads:
cd ~/Downloads
sudo apt install ./Orbit-1.1.0.debUsing apt (rather than dpkg) pulls in the required dependencies automatically. Once installed, launch Orbit from your applications menu or run orbit.
Arch Linux
After Orbit-1.1.0.pacman is in ~/Downloads:
cd ~/Downloads
sudo pacman -U Orbit-1.1.0.pacmanThen launch Orbit from your applications menu or run orbit.
