Honeydew v0.3.4
Honeydew 0.3.4 adds master effects, file import on Android and better loading of FL Studio Mobile projects:
- Master effects: tap the MASTER track (or its strip in the mixer), open the rack and use Add Module to put effects on the master channel. While MASTER is selected, the keyboard plays nothing, as in FL Studio Mobile.
- Import on Android: Import in the SONGS tab now opens Android's file picker (Downloads, Google Drive, USB storage and more). It takes songs, MIDI files, FL Studio projects and ZIP sample packs; a pack's samples, presets and SoundFonts go into your own folders. The sample picker's Import button and Import MIDI Tracks now work on Android too.
- FL Studio Mobile projects built from a MIDI import now open with their notes. Before, their clips showed as thin lines and played nothing.
- An instrument whose samples are missing, such as one from a project made on another device, now plays the built-in grand piano instead of staying silent. The project still points to the original samples, so saving it keeps them.
Downloads include Windows, Linux, both macOS architectures, the web ZIP, and a signed ARM64 Android APK. Every download includes the complete sound library; no separate sound download is required.
v0.3.3
Honeydew 0.3.2
Honeydew 0.3.2 brings a new tempo dialog, better note selection and refreshed icons:
- Tempo dialog: spin the wheel around the tempo to change it (one turn = 1 BPM), use -1, +1, -10 and +10, or tap TAP four times to set the tempo from your taps. A new metronome button clicks during playback, not only while recording.
- Selecting notes: a pulsing box now marks the selection. The handle on its right changes every selected note's length by the same amount, and the new ↔ bar under it stretches or squeezes the whole selection in time. The automation editor has the box and the ↔ bar, and the drum editor has the box and the length handle.
- New icons for rewind, record, the mixer, snap on and off, the CONTROL knob and the rack tab. The show-keyboard and hide-keyboard arrows now match.
- Honeydew always uses its own icons, including after importing your own FL Studio Mobile content.
- The logo sits centred in its button, and changing the metronome level takes effect right away.
Downloads include Windows, Linux, both macOS architectures, the web ZIP, and a signed ARM64 Android APK. Every download includes the complete sound library; no separate sound download is required.
Honeydew 0.3.1
Honeydew 0.3.1 adds the macOS downloads that were missing from 0.3.0.
- macOS: the Apple silicon and Intel builds failed in 0.3.0 because of a build error in the built-in Lemon plugins' rack cards. They build again, and both are included here.
- No other changes from 0.3.0. See the 0.3.0 release for what's new.
Downloads include Windows, Linux, both macOS architectures, the web ZIP, and a signed ARM64 Android APK. Every download includes the complete sound library; no separate sound download is required.
Honeydew 0.3.0
Honeydew 0.3.0 brings a refreshed look and Lemon Studio's plugins and effects, built in:
- A refreshed look: a new transport bar with Undo and Redo always at hand and a Solo clip button, rulers with a play box, rounded clips, a pull-up tab for the velocity and pan lane, and new icons. Editors close with a ribbon on their top edge, the logo and the rack tab float over the playlist, the rack has rounded cards under a new header, the main menu has a new header with Help, and dialogs and messages float over the screen. The Save dialog has format tabs. On desktop, tooltips name the buttons and their shortcuts.
- Portrait windows: a window taller than wide gets the portrait layout. The transport bar takes two rows on a narrow screen, and the rack, the browsers and the main menu take the full width. On Android the app now turns with the device.
- Lemon Studio, built in: Lemon Trio, Lemon Sampler and Lemon Parametric EQ come built in on every platform, with Lemon's own controls right in their rack cards (Lemon Trio and Lemon Sampler under SYNTH, Lemon Parametric EQ under FILTER). If you have them installed as plugins, the built-in ones are used. On the web and Android, Lemon Sampler can't open sample files yet.
- Lemon Reverb and Lemon Limiter: Lemon Studio's reverb and limiter as built-in effects on every platform, under ECHO and LEVEL in the Modules browser. Opening an FL Studio project turns its Fruity Reeverb 2 and Fruity Limiter into these with their settings, and saving as FLP writes them back. FL Studio Mobile opens songs that use any of Lemon's built-ins, without them.
- Installed plugins: the pop-out button on a plugin's card opens its own window, in place of the Editor button.
- SETTINGS has a Scaling slider (60 to 200 %) and an Animation setting (Full, Reduced or Minimal).
- Smart solo: soloing a channel in the mixer also solos the effect channels it sends to. Unsolo All, on the master, clears every solo.
- Burn Notes to Track bakes a channel's note effects into a new track. Convert to FLAC shrinks a WAV file in the file browser.
- Drag and drop: audio files dragged from your computer or the sample browser onto the playlist become clips.
- Songs are saved in the FL Studio Mobile 5.0.1 song format, and 5.0.1 songs open with their saved view.
- A What's New dialog (Help -> What's new) lists the changes.
Downloads include Windows, Linux, both macOS architectures, the web ZIP, and a signed ARM64 Android APK. Every download includes the complete sound library; no separate sound download is required.
Honeydew 0.2.1
Honeydew 0.2.1 saves much more of a project into an FL Studio project (.flp):
- Built-in and preset instruments now export with their samples. A multi-sampled instrument, such as Close Grand, becomes a Layer channel of Samplers, one per key range, each on its own keys and root note. An instrument with one sample stays a plain Sampler. An instrument with no FL Studio counterpart becomes a Sampler of one rendered note.
- Effects carry over. Each channel plays into a mixer insert of its own, named after it, and its effects go into that insert's slots as FL Studio's own: the Equalizer as Fruity Parametric EQ 2 with its settings, and Reverb, Delay, Compressor, Limiter, Multiband, Filter, Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Distortion and Stereoizer as their FL Studio counterparts at default settings. Plugin effects go in the plugin wrapper, and the master's effects on the master.
- The Save dialog's FLP option has an "Include rendered audio" switch. When it is on, each channel is also rendered with its effects and added as an audio clip from the song's start, and the note channels are kept but muted, so the project sounds as it does in Honeydew.
- The summary after an FLP save is shorter: it lists only the parts that still differ in the .flp, such as effects saved at default settings and instruments or effects with no counterpart.
- Opening an FL Studio project: a key-split Layer opens as one DW Sampler of its samples, and a muted channel stays muted.
Downloads include Windows, Linux, both macOS architectures, the web ZIP, and a signed ARM64 Android APK. Every download includes the complete sound library; no separate sound download is required.
Honeydew 0.2.0
Honeydew 0.2.0 hosts VST3, VST2 and CLAP plugins in the desktop app:
- Third-party instruments and effects work as rack modules. The Modules browser lists the installed ones under PLUGIN INSTRUMENTS and PLUGIN EFFECTS. An instrument plugin plays its channel's notes, pitch bend, aftertouch and MIDI CCs; an effect plugin processes the sound like any other effect module.
- A plugin's own editor window opens when you add it from the Modules browser, if it has one. The card's Editor button, now a filled button in the channel colour, opens and closes it again; if an editor cannot open, the card says why. The card also shows the plugin's parameters as sliders, a page at a time, which you can record, automate and link to MIDI controllers like any other control.
- Plugins are found in the standard folders. On Linux: ~/.vst3, /usr/lib/vst3, ~/.vst, /usr/lib/vst, ~/.clap and /usr/lib/clap (and the /usr/local ones). On Windows and macOS: the system's standard VST3, VST2 and CLAP folders.
- Windows plugins on Linux: install yabridge or its fork vstbridge with Wine and let it bridge your Windows plugins. Its bridged copies in ~/.vst3/yabridge and ~/.vst/yabridge are found and load like any Linux plugin.
- Settings -> Plugins: Add folder adds a folder of your own to search, and Rescan scans every plugin file again. Each file is scanned in a separate process, so a plugin that crashes while it is scanned is listed as not loaded and does not affect the app.
- Projects save each plugin with its settings. A project whose plugin is not installed keeps the plugin and its settings, plays nothing for it, and says so. FL Studio Mobile still opens these projects, without the plugins. FL Studio projects (.flp) load their wrapped plugins that are installed, with their saved state, and saving as FLP writes plugin instruments back.
- Plugins are desktop-only. The web app and Android keep a project's plugins and their settings, but play nothing for them.
- A playlist Delete that leaves channels with no clips, or some of a channel's lanes empty, now asks whether to delete those channels or remove the empty lanes too. Saying yes is part of the same undo step. The master and sends are never offered, and a channel always keeps one lane.
- Plugin editors that draw with OpenGL open under Wayland (through XWayland). An X error from a plugin's editor no longer closes the app: that editor is closed and its card says why.
- Quitting the app with some plugins loaded (Surge XT, for one) no longer ends in a crash.
Known limits:
- On Linux, a plugin that crashes while playing takes the app down with it. Scanning is protected; playing is not.
- Plugin editor windows open on Linux only (X11, or XWayland under Wayland). On Windows and macOS, use the card's parameter sliders.
- No latency compensation: a plugin's latency is shown on its card but not compensated.
Downloads include Windows, Linux, both macOS architectures, the web ZIP, and a signed ARM64 Android APK. Every download includes the complete sound library; no separate sound download is required.
Honeydew 0.1.9
Honeydew 0.1.9 opens and saves projects from other apps:
- MIDI import is fixed: every imported channel now plays. Each MIDI channel loads the closest bundled instrument for its General MIDI program, channel 10 becomes a drum kit, the last notes of a clip play in full, and files without a tempo open at 120 BPM. One summary lists the sound each channel got.
- FL Studio desktop projects (.flp, or a .zip of one with its samples) open with their channels, patterns, playlist, audio clips, tempo, volume, pan, volume and pan automation, and the mixer effects Honeydew has. 3x Osc channels keep their oscillators. Projects from FL Studio 9 up to the current version are read; older ones import what can be read.
- Samples are searched for next to the project, inside the .zip, in the project's folder and in your sample folders. A missing sample or an unknown plugin plays the closest bundled sound, and Locate samples... searches a folder you pick for the missing ones.
- The Save dialog's FLP button now saves an FL Studio project with the samples it plays, as a .zip.
- Projects of every kind (.flm, .zip, .mid, .flp) open by dragging them onto the window, and the Songs browser lists MIDI and FLP files.
- In Playground, the web app saves into Files, opens projects from Files, and Locate samples... searches a Files folder.
- Right-button drag deletes notes in the piano roll and the drum editor, and Ctrl+Y redoes.
Downloads include Windows, Linux, both macOS architectures, the web ZIP, and a signed ARM64 Android APK. Every download includes the complete sound library; no separate sound download is required.
