Soufflé no longer keeps your Mac awake between recordings, and dictation fixes words it misheard.

Fixed

  • Soufflé kept the Mac from sleeping for the whole length of every calendar event, even with nothing recording. It was holding the system-audio capture open just to notice whether a meeting had started. It now checks without opening anything, so an event in your calendar no longer costs you battery all afternoon.
  • Dictation left misheard words in place. "Peux-tu mettre à jour" came back as "petit maitre a jour" and the cleanup pass did not touch it. It now repairs words that sound like what you said but make no sense in the sentence, and leaves everything that reads correctly alone.
  • A failed shutdown of the system-audio capture went unnoticed and could leave a hidden device behind until the next launch, still keeping the Mac awake. Failures are now noticed and swept.

Improved

  • Meetings use less CPU: the audio mixer wakes 50 times a second instead of 200.
  • Checking whether the lid is closed no longer launches a background process every two seconds for the whole of a session.
  • The transcription model now unloads after an hour of inactivity instead of staying in memory until you quit Soufflé. On a 8 or 16 GB Mac that is the difference between an idle menubar app holding several gigabytes and holding none.

Changed

  • If you had set the model to unload "Never", this update sets it to one hour, once. Setting it back to Never in Settings will stick.

Notes for testing

  • The meeting auto-start nudge is the piece that changed most, and the one to watch. During a calendar event, join a real Zoom call, and a Meet in Chrome. Soufflé should still offer to start recording. Staying silent is the regression to report.
  • Leave a calendar event running with nothing recording and confirm the Mac idles to sleep on its own.
  • For dictation, check the opposite of the fix as well: a sentence that was transcribed correctly but reads awkwardly should come back unchanged. Rewriting what was already right is the risk of the new cleanup.
  • The dictation repair was validated against Apple's prompt guidance rather than on a live Apple Intelligence run, which this build machine cannot exercise. Worth a pass on both Apple Intelligence and Ollama.
