What it does
Smooth Cursor replaces the default GNOME pointer with a custom graphic object driven by physics.
Internals:
- Hides the system cursor using an invisible theme.
- Reads hardware pointer coordinates and uses Hooke's Law to calculate forces.
- Controls movement, rotation, and click-scale with independent springs to create a physical bounce and drag effect.
Next steps
- Pointer polling overhead: The extension uses a 16ms polling loop to detect clicks because Wayland blocks direct click events. We will optimize this or use event-driven workarounds to reduce CPU cycles.
- Actor lifecycle: We will harden the creation and destruction of click-spark actors to prevent memory leaks over long uptimes.
- Multi-monitor handling: We will refine how the Clutter actor transitions between displays with different scaling factors.
