Kiln v0.2.0
Kiln v0.2.0 — Navigation & deep linking
Kiln's desktop app now has addressable navigation. Your location — the view you're in, the document you have open, and the right-panel tab — lives in the URL, so it's shareable, resumable, and navigable like any web app. Fitting, for a tool whose whole job is precise handoffs: now the app's own state is a link you can hand to someone.
What's new
- Deep links & copy-location — A 🔗 in the top bar copies a link to exactly where you are; a 🔗 in any document header links straight to that entity. Paste it into a fresh launch and you land back in the same place. Stale or unknown links resolve to a clean in-view "not found" instead of a blank screen.
- Browser-style Back — A Back control in the top bar steps through your in-app history. X-ray peek → Documents is no longer a one-way trip.
- One-hop into an agent's context — The X-ray peek's Frame context button and the Pulse knowledge-panel rows now jump straight to a work order's Context tab — no more open-then-switch-tabs. (The X-ray's canvas viewport-fit is now its own Fit thread button.)
- Keyboard navigation — Switch views with a
gchord:g pPulse ·g dDocuments ·g bBoard ·g xX-ray ·g sSettings.Escdismisses the X-ray peek. The shortcuts are listed at the bottom of the⌘Kpalette. Typing is never hijacked. - Place-preserving project switches — Switching projects keeps you on the same entity when it still exists in the new project, instead of always resetting to Pulse.
Install & update
- Existing installs update themselves automatically — no action needed.
- New installs: download below for macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel) or Windows.
- First launch on macOS: Kiln isn't Apple-notarized yet — right-click the app and choose Open the first time.
