Wallpaper Lyrics 2.0.0

Lyrics can now move word by word. When Musixmatch has word timing for a track, each word lights up as it is sung and lifts slightly, and it keeps settling after its sweep ends, so a line reads as one movement instead of a row of stops. When Musixmatch only has line timing, or nothing, LRCLIB is still asked, and a lyrics server of your own can be put in front of both from Enhanced Lyrics.

The background flows again and its colours run deeper

The animated background had lost most of its motion. Its two scales of movement had collapsed onto nearly the same size, so it bent back and forth instead of flowing, and it flows again. The colours are more vivid too. The old flat saturation boost and warmth filter flattened blues and turned pinks orange. Each colour is now pushed toward the most the cover can show at its own lightness, so muted covers get richer and covers that are already vivid get deeper rather than harsher. A nearly white cover is dimmed enough for white lyrics to stay readable on it, and smooth gradients no longer break into contour rings.

It follows whichever player is actually playing

The wallpaper used to latch onto one media session. Restarting Spotify, or starting a second player, left it silent until the screen was turned off and on again. It now moves to the player that is playing and recovers when a player recreates its session. KDE Connect joins Spotify and Tidal as a player it recognises by name.

A song change fades once

Players hand over a new track in stages, a small thumbnail first and the full cover a moment later, and the background used to fade for each of them. It fades once now. The album card fades its cover in when the art arrives after the title, and cover art that fails to load is retried twice before the card gives up on it.

Settings say where things stand

The first card is Setup, and notification access, battery restriction and the wallpaper itself each say whether they are done. Background settings have a live preview built from the song that is playing. Numbers are set with sliders that show their range, and the sync offset says which direction is which. Options that only matter while another switch is on are dimmed when it is off, instead of accepting changes that do nothing.

Also in this release

The lyric status toasts can be turned off under Status Messages in Settings (#2). Cover art from YouTube Music loses the black bars baked into its thumbnails. Without notification access the idle screen says so, instead of looking like a working wallpaper with nothing playing. The status and navigation bars match the app instead of turning white, and the wallpaper picker shows a description. A custom lyrics server now times out after five seconds instead of a minute.

This build is signed with the same key as 1.4.0, so it installs over it without uninstalling first.

Documentation and a version bump. Nothing in the app behaves differently from 1.3.2.

The README caught up with two things that had already shipped: sessions are read from Spotify only as of 1.3.2, and the background speed controls arrived in 1.3.1.
