Full Changelog: 1.3.0...1.3.1
1.3.0
A batch of long-standing Auto Link Title requests.
New
- More in a link than the title (#14). Link formats can use
{author}(a video's channel, or the page's author),{site},{description},{section}(the heading a#fragmentpoints to) and{date}or{date:FORMAT}. A format only fetches the page when it shows something from it. - Copied links keep their own title (#15). A link copied or dragged out of a browser, with its text (Edge's Copy link, Firefox's
text/x-moz-url, a link dragged from a page), goes in with that text and no request. It works for pages behind a login. - Vim's
pandPtitle URLs (#16), counts, registers and visual mode included, by the same rules as a paste. - arXiv papers get their real title (#18). PDF, abstract and HTML links to a paper are titled from its abstract page, so
arxiv.org/pdf/2206.08077.pdfbecomes "Neural Scene Representation for Locomotion on Structured Terrain" instead of2206.08077.pdf. - An API for scripts and other plugins (#13) at
app.plugins.plugins['named-links'].api:getTitle(url),getLink(url)andformatLink(url, title). See the README's Scripting section for a Templater example.
Changed
- URLs in code blocks, inline code and frontmatter are always left alone, so Skip code and frontmatter is no longer a setting. Link format moves to the top of the settings tab (#12).
Fixed
- Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+V really pastes a URL as plain text now. The shortcut fires two paste events, and the second one used to come out titled (#12).

1.2.0
Two requests from @NomarCub, both off by default.
New
- Decode URLs (#6). Writes a link's URL decoded, so
https://jisho.org/word/%E5%AF%BF%E5%8F%B8goes in ashttps://jisho.org/word/寿司. Anything that would change where the URL leads (/ ? # & =,%and friends) stays encoded, and a URL with a space goes in<...>so it still links. - Paste text onto a selected URL as its title (#7). Select a URL, or a whole
[old](url)link, paste some text, and it becomes[your text](url). Nothing is fetched, and one undo gives the URL back.
Also
- The README has a commands table and a comparison with similar plugins, and it's about half as long.
- Releases now check that the tag matches the manifest and run lint, the type check and the unit tests before building.

1.1.0
Three things people kept asking for upstream, plus a nicer undo.
New
- Title clean-up (#3). An optional "Remove the site name" toggle drops the
- YouTube/· GitHub/| The New York Timespart of a title. It uses the name the page declares, or the one in its address. Two sets of find and replace rules run after it:- Domain title rules only apply to one site and its subdomains, e.g.
github.com: /^GitHub - / =>. - Page title rules apply to every title.
- Domain title rules only apply to one site and its subdomains, e.g.
- Link format (#4). Pick a Markdown link (the default, unchanged), a Markdown link with a hover title, an HTML
<a>link, or your own template using{title},{url}and{domain}. A template without{title}, like[source]({url}), skips the fetch entirely. - Undo (#5). Undo after a title comes in now gives you back the URL you pasted, and a second undo removes the paste. No more stranded "Fetching title…".
Changed
- "Use the selection as the title" is now on by default, so pasting a URL over selected text links that text instead of replacing it. Turn it off in settings for the old behavior.
The README has screenshots of the full settings tab now, if you want to see where everything lives.
