@darchap darchap released this 22 Sep 20:22

A release candidate collecting the fixes made since 1.3.3.

  • Audio decode errors during play are gone. A buffer bug in the older
    decode path and a split-frame case were producing errors that could
    stall the game.

  • Skaters, pedestrians and vehicles keep their detailed models at the
    right distance. The distance was being scaled again on every update
    instead of once, so detail could creep closer to the camera during a
    long session.

  • NPCs and traffic fade in as the game intended, and cloth no longer
    jitters against the body. Both were being forced off at boot on
    Android.

  • The launcher card now says how the last session ended, and bug reports
    name the device build, the CPU layout and how the game folder is
    mounted.

v1.3.3

@darchap darchap released this 22 Sep 13:38
  • Fixed a fresh install freezing after the difficulty and camera-angle screens. Confirming the angle was read as a request to skip the clip that same press had just started.

  • Fixed the game sometimes launching to a black screen and never starting at all. Confirmed by the person who reported it.

  • The launcher now tells you when a new version is out, with a Stable and a Beta channel. Beta gets stable releases too.

  • Builds made between releases now report the release they came from, so a diagnostics report names the exact build.

Installing: install over your current version — do not uninstall, that deletes your extracted game files.

A test build. If something goes wrong, use Report a problem in the launcher and attach the file it saves.

A fresh install could stop responding right after the difficulty and camera-angle screens. Confirming the camera angle was read as a request to skip the clip that same press had just started, which completed it on its first frame and left the following screen blank and deaf to input. The skip now waits until the movie is actually playing.

The game could also launch to a black screen and never start at all. Every guest thread is created suspended and resumed a moment later, and the resume could arrive before the thread had published that it was suspended, so it was dropped, and the thread waited forever. The first thread to lose that race took the whole boot with it. The suspend count is now published together with the thread state.

The blue waypoint arrows and marker beams are back. The native renderer has always been able to draw them, but the Android startup profile switched that part off on every launch, so they only ever appeared after switching to the emulated renderer.

One fix. If you play with touch controls only, there is nothing new here.

The on-screen controller gets out of the way when a real one is connected. The touch pad already stayed hidden, but its TOUCH button sat on top of the screen permanently, even with a gamepad in your hands. Now both disappear the moment a controller connects and come back the moment it goes away, exactly as you left them. Handhelds with a built-in controller never show them at all.

Switching mid-game is safe: the game is told the touch pad is idle rather than unplugged, so it never shows its controller-disconnected screen while the real pad is still being detected. SDL only looks for new controllers every three seconds, which is the gap that had to be covered.

v1.3.0

One new option, report a problem from the launcher. The button under Play opens a GitHub issue with this device's details already filled in: model, chipset, Android version, GPU driver, rendering settings, the last three times the process exited, and the warnings and errors from the newest game log. If the app crashed, the crash trace itself is in there too. Nothing needs to be typed except what happened and how to reproduce it.

The same button now saves it in your Downloads folder holding the report, your settings and the whole log, ready to drag into the issue when the details in the form are not enough. No personal data is included in either.

Custom GPU driver selection is back in the launcher. The GPU driver row imports a driver package from a ZIP into the app's own storage and loads it for Skate 3 alone, so the rest of the phone keeps the system driver and nothing needs root. The row shows what the next launch will use; you can switch back to the system driver or remove the imported one at any time. Drivers are device-specific and none is bundled, so bring a package in the usual AdrenoTools ZIP format. A failed import leaves the previous selection alone.

v1.1.1

@darchap darchap released this 18 Sep 11:49

Two boot fixes. If 1.1.0 already runs fine for you, there is nothing else new here.

Black screen after the Skate 3 logo on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (AYN Thor and similar). The title-update patcher copied overlapping memory with memcpy, and on 8 Gen 2 the CPU's memcpy copies in the other direction, so those phones assembled a corrupted executable from perfectly good files. It uses memmove now.

Frontend freezing after Start usually on the difficulty screen, list empty, buttons dead, restart needed. A guest thread could lose its wake-up when the game drove the menus quickly; it was waiting on an event that had already fired while holding a lock the main thread then blocked on. Completions now arrive after the caller is ready.

Installing: installs over 1.1.0; game files and settings stay.
