v0.3.1
f01626c

gpwebcam 0.3.1 is on the AUR.

  • AUR packages: gpwebcam builds from source, gpwebcam-bin installs the release binary. Install one of them with your AUR helper, for example yay -S gpwebcam-bin. If you installed the Arch package from this page before, the AUR package gpwebcam updates it, and gpwebcam-bin replaces it.
  • The release archives now also contain the desktop entry and the icon.

Upgrading from 0.3.0: restart the service to run the new version:

systemctl --user restart gpwebcam

Install and setup: see README.md.

v0.3.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 20 Oct 03:39
v0.3.0
4378a4d

gpwebcam 0.3.0 gives gpwebcam its own icon.

  • New icon in the application menu, the tray and notifications.
  • The tray icon shows the state with a dot: green while video flows, blue while the camera starts or waits for an application, gray when the camera is off in gpwebcam, orange on a problem, and no dot without a camera. The red dot at the top right still means recording. The icon itself stays in color.
  • The packages now depend on hicolor-icon-theme, which holds the standard icon directories.
  • Issue templates and a security policy for reporting problems.

Upgrading from 0.2.0: restart the service to run the new version:

systemctl --user restart gpwebcam

If the application menu still shows a generic icon, restart the panel or launcher that was running during the installation, or log out and in again.

Install and setup: see README.md.

v0.2.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 06 Oct 23:36
v0.2.0
e8d08cf

gpwebcam 0.2.0 adds a tray icon, a camera that streams only while an application uses it, and recording.

  • Tray icon with a menu for the camera mode, field of view, resolution, hardware decoding, notifications, recording, restart and quit. White while video flows, orange on a problem, with a red dot while recording.
  • Camera on demand, the default: the GoPro streams only while an application has its video on, and stops 15 seconds after the last one, so it does not heat up for nothing. "Always on" and "Off" are in the menu.
  • Recording: the camera's video goes into a Matroska file in ~/Videos/gpwebcam as the camera sends it, without re-encoding, from the menu or with gpwebcam record start|stop.
  • Settings while it runs: from the menu or with gpwebcam config; a new resolution applies as soon as no application uses the camera.
  • GoPro Webcam in the application menu starts the service again after Quit.
  • gpwebcam now receives the camera's stream itself, only from the camera, and tells a firewall problem apart from a camera that sends no picture.
  • Clearer messages when the camera cannot start, for example without its battery.
  • gpwebcam doctor checks more: settings, tray, recordings folder, and whether v4l2loopback reports applications.

Upgrading from 0.1.0: the systemd unit changed, so after installing run:

systemctl --user daemon-reload
systemctl --user restart gpwebcam

Install and setup: see README.md.

  • gpwebcam doctor checks the setup
  • desktop notifications
  • .deb, .rpm and Arch packages for amd64 and arm64
