SwanStationPS5 1.1.6
Fixes
- Per-game settings: a game's own settings no longer fall back to the "All games" values for core options left at their default, so changes under "All games" don't leak into a game that has its own settings.
- Double frames is now a per-game setting (it was shared by every game, so changing it under "This game" changed "All games" too).
- Quitting with Circle: the app no longer waits for network threads (cover downloads, RetroAchievements, the phone remote server) before closing, which could leave the console frozen for up to ~30 seconds. It saves, then asks the system to close the title, and asks again every second until it does.
Changes
- A factory reset (the update prompt, or the
reset-settingsfile) now also deletes every game's own settings. - Settings help panel: "Same for every game" now sits above "Applies right away", so the two notes no longer overlap.
After updating, the app asks whether to restore factory settings; answering yes also clears per-game settings.
SwanStationPS5 1.1.5
Memory cards
- Memory cards save and show up again: SwanStation's card is now written to
saves/<serial>_1.mcdand loaded at start, so the Memory cards manager lists it. - The manager shows each save's icon (animated, in the block map and in the list), and save names with symbols like
%,!and?read correctly. - A card made under the game file's name moves to the serial's name once the serial is known.
Multi-disc games
- Switching discs in the game menu happens as soon as you choose, with no need to confirm.
- The disc you leave a game on is remembered and started on next time.
- The serial is read from the first disc a
.m3ulists, so.chdsets show their cover and data.
Shelf and interface
- The shelf is drawn by the GPU (Vulkan) by default, with a switch in Settings > System > SwanStationPS5 that changes it at once. Turn it off to draw with the CPU as before.
- New Output resolution option: 1080p, 1440p or 4K (4K by default), changed at once. It needs the GPU interface and falls back to 1080p if the TV lacks the mode.
- Covers have a floor reflection (including the placeholder duck), and the title and tags sit above the cover.
- The side covers step back with a light depth effect and keep their width; the version shows beside the app name; the clock and account moved above the hints bar.
- Covers draw only their visible part (from 15-18 ms to 5-10 ms a frame), mip levels are made by the GPU, and the theme's backdrop now follows theme changes.
- Neon Arcade is the default theme, the game artwork frame is on by default, and the Border option "Soft glow" is now "Current background".
- Fixed giant icons in the game menu after many icon sizes were used.
Games and storage
- New Games folder on USB drives setting (
psxby default): the name is looked for on/mnt/usb0/and/mnt/usb1/at once, typed with a new on-screen keyboard with an Apply button. - Fixed the picture pulsing in "All Borders" crop mode (Spyro 3 loading screens).
- Default internal resolution is now 4x.
Updates and settings
- After an update the app asks whether to start from the new version's factory settings: X resets (language included), Circle keeps your settings. It is asked once; the settings file now records the version that wrote it.
- Every notice ends with a full stop in all languages.
Housekeeping
- Removed the leftovers of Beetle PSX HW and PCSX-ReARMed. SwanStation is the only emulator.
SwanStationPS5 1.1.3
New
- LibCrypt games (most PAL discs) now work without hunting for a
.sbifile. The app carries the LibCrypt SBI patches (assets/sbi_files, 200 files) and, when a game has no.sbibeside its disc, copies the one for its serial there before starting.- This fixes games like Resident Evil 3, European version.
- Spyro: Year of the Dragon and CTR: Crash Team Racing have two pressings under one serial, so the right
.sbiis picked from the CRC-32 of the first.binof the disc. It is read in the background, with a progress bar. - If no
.sbifits, a box in the middle of the screen says so and stays until you press X.
- Allow Booting Without SBI File (Settings → Console), off by default. It lets a LibCrypt game start with no
.sbi. Without it the game will likely freeze or stop working at some point. - A toast when a game starts: Press L3 + R3 to open the game menu..., with the buttons drawn in the line.
Fixed
- FSR 1 now works with Double frames. It was skipped: the interpolator's frames were already the screen's size, so there was nothing to scale up. FSR 1 now scales each new frame of the game before the interpolation, and the shader still comes after it.
- A game refused for a missing SBI file now says why, instead of "The core could not load this game."
Changed
- SwanStation core updated to the latest
libretro/swanstation(it now uses libretro'srthreads). All of SwanStationPS5's changes to the core are still in one patch. - The game menu opens with L3 + R3 only. Holding the touchpad no longer opens it.
- "Keep holding to close SwanStationPS5..." no longer names a button. "Continuing where you left off..." now ends with an ellipsis. Both are translated in every language.
Credits
- The SBI files are from psxdatacenter. They are patches, not game data.
Install: copy the PPSA98510 folder from the zip to /data/homebrew/ on the PS5 and set its permissions to 777, or update from the app (About → Updates).
SwanStationPS5 1.1.2
Fixed
- Double frames stopped working when SwanStation's MSAA (or 24-bit colour) was on: every picture counted as a new frame of the game, so the game's own frame rate was never found. Repeated pictures are now told whatever the MSAA, the colour depth or the internal resolution.
- Run-ahead is not run while Double frames is on. Its look-ahead frames are not the game's own, and they confused the frame counting. Your Run-ahead setting is kept and works again when Double frames is off.
Changed
- The log no longer writes the Double frames lines (
framegen: …): they are commented out until they are needed again.
SwanStationPS5 1.1.1
New
- AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution switch (Settings → Display → Picture, above AMD FidelityFX CAS). It runs AMD FSR 1 before the picture's shader.
- It scales the picture to your screen following the edges of the image, then sharpens it.
- Every shader reads its result: Sharp bilinear, CRT Basic, LCD3x, CRT Royale and the NTSC ones.
- It also works together with Double frames.
Changed
- The Sharpening setting is now named AMD FidelityFX CAS, which is what it runs. The name is not translated.
Fixed
- The Show FPS description now says what the
| FGnumber is: the frames you actually see, for example60.0 FPS (game 25.0) | FG 50. It used to say the screen's refresh rate.
Credits
- FSR 1 is AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (MIT).
SwanStationPS5 1.1.0
New
- Double frames (Settings → Display → Picture). It doubles the game's real frames with AMD FSR 3's frame interpolation: from 30 to 60 fps, or from 60 to 120 fps if your screen supports it. If not, it stays at 60 fps.
- SwanStation now tells the app when a picture is a repeat, so a 30 fps game on a 60 fps core is doubled from its real 30, not from the repeated pictures.
- It also works with CRT Royale and the NTSC shaders: they are applied after the interpolation, on every frame shown.
- Show FPS now shows the game's own rate next to the emulated one, for example
60.0 FPS (game 25.0). While Double frames is working it also shows the frames you actually see, for example| FG 50. - Four NTSC shaders (Settings → Display → Picture → Shader): 320px S-Video, 320px Composite, 256px S-Video and 256px Composite.
- Load HD textures switch. It turns on SwanStation's two texture-pack options together. Texture packs go in
/data/SwanStationPS5/cache/textures/<serial>/, for exampleSCUS-94900. - Updater:
- It now installs into the folder the app is running from:
/data/homebrew, or an extended or USB drive. - When it finds an update at start, it installs it by itself a second after the app opens.
- It now installs into the folder the app is running from:
Fixed
- Sharp bilinear did almost nothing at high internal resolutions. It now works on the PS1's own pixels at any internal resolution.
- Yume Nikki and other PS1 homebrew now boot on SwanStation. Two fixes in the core did it:
- The CD-ROM Reset command no longer ends without sending its end-of-command response.
- Homebrew discs now answer GetID with the console region.
- Yume Nikki PS1 and Doki Doki Literature Club PSX are confirmed compatible.
Changed
- The project is now SwanStationPS5 everywhere: app name,
/data/SwanStationPS5paths, ini and log files, sync tool, header and fonts. - It still reads the games in
/data/PSXS5/gamesand the BIOS in/data/PSXS5/bios, so PSXS5 libraries keep working with no need to move anything. - The shader "CRT" is now called CRT Basic.
- The empty-shelf message lists every supported games path, and tapping O on the shelf shows a "hold to exit" toast.
- About has a "Created by" row, and the BIOS fallback text now says OpenBios.
Credits
- Frame interpolation comes from PS5SX2 by Swordpdf, as integrated in PSXS5 by SynoPiia. It uses AMD FidelityFX SDK 2.3.0 (MIT).
- The NTSC shaders are Themaister's, from libretro's slang-shaders.
Install: copy the PPSA98510 folder from the zip to /data/homebrew/ on the PS5 and set its permissions to 777, or update from the app (About → Updates).
SwanStationPS5 1.0.6
Shelf and menus
- Hold O for 2 seconds to close the app (it was 3 seconds in 1.0.5). The warning and progress bar fill up faster to match.
- The in-game menu (L3 + R3) now shows the game's proper name from DuckStation's database, the same name as on the shelf, instead of its folder name.
- The same name is used in Settings (the subtitle while a game is open), the library statistics, "Closest to mastery" in your profile and the memory card list.
- Serial and folder as tags. Under the title in the in-game menu, the serial and
Folder: '/data'(or/mnt/ext1,/mnt/usb0...) now appear as rounded tags like the shelf's. The folder tag moves to a second line if it does not fit. Translated into English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Japanese.
SwanStationPS5 1.0.5
RetroAchievements
- Sign in on the console. A new sign-in screen with an on-screen keyboard (drawn by the app) lets you enter your user name and password, with no PC needed. Only the login token is kept; the password goes to retroachievements.org and is wiped from memory.
- Settings > Achievements: the profile row reads Sign in until you are signed in, then Your profile.
- Sign out: hold L2 + R2 for 3 seconds on the profile screen (with a progress bar).
- If your language can't be typed on the keyboard, the screen points to
python tools/psxs5_sync.py ra-login, which still works.
Shelf
- Hold O for 3 seconds to close the app, with a warning and progress bar. The app now exits cleanly through the system instead of crashing.
- Reload (L3): rescans the library without opening Settings. If new games are found it jumps to All; otherwise it says "No new games found...".
- The shelf always starts on All, not on the last category.
- Games without a cover show the app icon instead of a plain title card (coverflow, grid and spine layouts).
- A new tag shows the games folder:
Folder: '/data','/mnt/ext1', etc. The Details panel shows the full path, e.g./data/PSXS5/games. - The Memory cards hint is shortened to M.Card.
Storage and performance
- A second games folder:
/mnt/ext1/PSXS5/gamesis created when/mnt/ext1exists, and is scanned along with the existing ones. - The scan limit grows from 1024 to 4096 entries per folder.
- SwanStation's shader cache now lives in
PSXS5/cache/swanstationinstead of insidebios/.
Interface
- Right-hand hints use button icons instead of text (shelf, sign-in, profile, Settings, cheats, achievements, guide).
- All new texts are translated into English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Japanese.
Developer tools
- The app log goes to the console's klog, readable with
nc <PS5 IP> 3232.make_release.py --ipprints that command. - Per-frame timing logs are off.
SwanStationPS5 1.0.4
Performance
- Much faster game start. Disc images are no longer memory-mapped by SwanStation, a step that took about 16 s the first time each game was opened on the PS5. Games now load in under a second.
Video and shaders
- LCD3x shader. A handheld-LCD look that follows the PS1's own line and column grid.
- CRT Royale shader. The crt-royale-fast preset: an 8-pass CRT with scanlines, phosphor mask and bloom.
- New shader order. Off, LCD3x, CRT Royale, CRT, Sharp bilinear.
- Renderer option. Settings > Graphics > Renderer picks GPU (Recommended) or CPU, and applies on the next game.
- CPU warning. A 5-second toast, in five languages, tells you when a game starts rendering in software.
Library and shelf
- Better layout. The default theme shows the title above the cover, the tags right below it, and the whole row centred on screen.
- Official game titles. Titles come from DuckStation's database when the disc's serial is known, with the folder or file name as fallback.
- Touchpad shortcut. The touchpad opens Memory cards instead of "Surprise me".
- Clearer loading text. The loading screen says "Loading your game..." in five languages.
Defaults
- OSD messages off. SwanStation's on-screen messages are now disabled by default, since the app draws its own notices.
Housekeeping
- Credits and tooling. The crt-royale sources,
tools/make-royale.py, a build patch for the mmap fix and credits in the third-party notices are all included.make_release.pycan also sync the content version and deploy over FTP.
