v1.5.0-beta.4<https://github.com/darrylmorley/whatcable/releases/tag/v1.5.0-beta.4> is up. If you turned on "Include beta versions" in Settings after beta.3, this one should arrive through the normal update prompt: the first live test of that switch, so tell me if it doesn't show up. Manual download from the release page works as always.
Small build, two fixes from @official-Cromatin<https://github.com/official-Cromatin>'s beta.3 testing:
* Unplugging or plugging a dock now posts one grouped notification naming the dock and everything behind it, each device on its own row, after a short settle delay (#551<#551>).
* "Notify on app updates" is its own switch, independent of "Notify on cable changes" (#550<#550>).
The thing to lean on: plug and unplug a hub or dock with devices behind it and check the notification names the lot. And whether the in-app beta update prompt appeared for you at all.
Reply here with what you see, "looks fine" included.
Thanks again.

The independent toggle for app updates related to cable changes is much appreciated and implemented as imagined. The update worked seamlessly, though I initially too forgot to enable the beta toggle and had to think for a moment. After experimenting with both of my docks, I noticed that WhatCable notifies users of connected and disconnected devices differently. In my tests, it reported all devices that disconnected, but only some that connected. In each of my tests it only reports of these devices to have connected (tested with the same DIGITUS dock as in #551):
And all these devices to have disconnected:
My guess is that this might be related to the mentioned delay. Perhaps, if not already done, instead of using a hard delay, the system could benefit from a grace period that resets each time a new device is discovered in the tree. |
|
Thanks @official-Cromatin, that's a real asymmetry and the resetting grace period you suggest is actually already how it works, so something else is going on. I've split it out to #556 with a question for you there. |

Got both a notification and a prompt to update to beta 5, so that's working as intended. I only got one notification when docking, too, so everything seems to look good on my end. |
Uh oh!
