Welcome back. While confirming that #580 has been resolved, I noticed that for an extended period, WhatCable reports that the charger is „Plugged In, Charging on hold“ despite the power monitor indicating that the MacBook is indeed charging.
It takes between 10 to 40 seconds for the app to accurately display that it’s „Charging well“. Current percentage is 46%, so way below any automatic charging restrictions. It didn't take that long in previous versions. When starting the app in this beta version, I get a additional blanc window.
It shows the title in my system language (German) while I have manually set the app language to English. I couldn’t find any issues related to the problems you wanted us to investigate, but I noticed that this version seems to be more laggy than the previous one. It’s not a traditional hang, but I experience micro stutters when I plug the device into my Lenovo dock and scroll up and down the device list. I was able to attach a instruments recording (Reporting threshold set at >100ms) and record the hangs for
For cross reference, I did the same with This version introduces the measurement of the charging resistance, which my Mac might not support. Might also because it's charging and there isn't much variation in the power draw. I will test it again when my Mac is fully charged and the power drawn from the brick will vary.

Thanks @official-Cromatin and @jimmyorz working on those now. |

@official-Cromatin @jimmyorz thanks both. Beta 10 is out and hopefully addresses the issues raised. |

hi
Should it be reporting different MagSafe cables?
Or did I miss something.
I have 3 cables, a genuine black and a genuine white, then a fake cable, they all identify the same

I thought they might be identified because I read that apple released new firmware for the MagSafe cables, so I assume they would know what colour is what cable. |
|
no worries, thanks for checking, its no big deal. I really only am interested in the usb-c cables.. but I thought Id test the MagSafe to see if that was an issue... :) |
|
at least it distinguishes which wattage charger its connected to, that's important. 👍 |
|
ill let my Mac run down a bit then charge it and upload screenshots |

Hi everyone,
First, sorry for the long gap since beta.8. It's been over five weeks, and that's longer than I'd like to leave you without a build. Thanks for sticking with it.
Beta 9 is up: https://github.com/darrylmorley/whatcable/releases/tag/v1.5.0-beta.9
It's a big one, so the full notes are on the release page. The headlines:
What to look at:
"Looks fine on my setup" is as useful as a bug. Anything that looks wrong gets its own issue, linked here.
Thanks all!
P.S. If you can spare a minute, please run the diagnostic data contribution on beta.9: Settings > Community > Contribute Diagnostic Data, or
whatcable --test-kitin Terminal. It uses the new format, and a fresh run from your setup is the best way for me to spot problems early. All reactions
