Databricks WAF 0.1.0 is the first public alpha of the Well-Architected assessment application.

What this alpha provides

  • Assess any single pillar, any subset, or all seven Databricks Well-Architected Framework pillars.
  • Scope an assessment to selected workspaces or the workspaces visible to the scanning identity.
  • Combine automated workspace evidence with accountable human answers where platform data cannot decide a requirement.
  • Show indicative posture and coverage by pillar before every human answer is complete.
  • Move from an unmet requirement to its evidence, affected resources, clear remediation guidance, and an owned improvement plan.
  • Publish immutable reports and operate recurring assessments, decisions, exceptions, retention, and audit history.
  • Store the durable application record in customer-owned Lakebase while collectors remain read-only against the Databricks estate.

Install

The supported installation path is a Databricks Declarative Automation Bundle (DAB). Start with the complete installation guide:

Validate and preview before applying:

cd app
npm ci
npm run lifecycle -- validate --profile <profile> --target customer
npm run lifecycle -- install --profile <profile> --target customer
npm run lifecycle -- install --profile <profile> --target customer --apply

The installer must bind an existing SQL warehouse and Lakebase database in the ignored customer target override file. The scheduled assessment is installed paused and remains opt-in.

Verification

  • All 35 repository release gates pass, including tests, type checking, source/bundle equivalence, public-registry lockfile validation, licence inventory, methodology consistency, accessibility, routing, and durable-store checks.
  • The release was installed into the reference Labs workspace through the guarded customer DAB lifecycle. Post-deploy verification reported a running App, successful deployment, correct Lakebase and warehouse bindings, complete OBO scopes, a paused schedule, and a second DAB plan with no changes.
  • The public user guide is published from main:/docs using classic GitHub Pages branch deployment.

Alpha boundaries

  • This is an alpha release for evaluation and field feedback.
  • Current desktop and laptop Chrome is supported; tablet and mobile layouts are not supported.
  • DAB installation is supported; Marketplace installation is not.
  • The App records and verifies improvement work but does not apply changes to customer Databricks resources.
  • Results are an application-defined reading of published Databricks guidance, not an audit opinion or Databricks certification.
