Highlights & Feature Summary
MCP & Agent Improvements
Base Data Commons Federation in MCP: MCP tools on DCP instances can now seamlessly query and retrieve Base Data Commons indicators and time-series data thanks to the SDMX federation mentioned below.
SDMX Improvements & Query Federation
SDMX Federation: Data and availability endpoints support query federation across both local Spanner and remote Base Data Commons.
Spanner Place Resolution Ranking: Fixed /v2/resolve candidate ordering to prioritize major population centers over alphabetical DCID matches.
Staleness Tracking & Query Isolation: Added spanner_staleness_timestamp to the /version API and Web UI, actively exposing the running ingestion snapshot timestamp and ensuring user-facing queries serve without lock contention during Dataflow pipeline runs.
Anti-5xx Alert Hygiene: Mapped client input errors (corrupted pagination nextToken, empty reconnaissance queries, invalid formula syntax) to HTTP 400 Bad Request instead of HTTP 500 to eliminate false-positive server alert spikes.
Place Explorer Child Names: Fixed child place listings in the Place Explorer (/place/<dcid>) to paginate property lookups, properly displaying human-readable place names instead of raw DCIDs.
Known Issues:
datacommonsorg/mixer#2077 — Enables topic expansion in MCP, however it relies on relevantVariableList property on Topics which is not automatically populated in DCP Ingestion pipeline. This will be fixed in a follow up release. Current workaround is to manually add the property in MCF.
