@datadrivenconstruction datadrivenconstruction released this 24 Oct 14:40

DDC Converters 2.0.4 - RVT Converter and RVT to IFC

Maintenance release of DDC Converters 2.0. Update recommended for all users of 2.0.x.

Fixed

  • Faces: small trim gaps are bridged when the planar reconstruction cannot close a face; triangles
    that collapse in single-precision positions are dropped one by one instead of losing the face;
edge samples inside straight planar edges are accepted.
  • Spheres and tori close at their poles; repeated family bodies are written once as mapped items
(much smaller IFC files for models with many identical families).
  • Storeys: levels inside loaded families and inactive levels are not storeys; when no level is a
building storey, products are contained in the building.
  • Models whose roots are import symbols open; parser limits scale with the size of the file.

Improved

  • Partial results: the element table has GeometryStatus and GeometryReason columns;
warnings.txt / warnings.json list every partial or missing element; one element that fails
no longer stops the model; new option --time-limit.
  • Damaged partition streams are left out and reported; elements last saved there are listed as
refused (--damaged-partition-fallback reads their older saved version instead).
  • Compound layers: IfcMaterialLayerSetUsage per wall, slab, roof and covering; element table
    columns Layers and Structural Material.
  • Clear exit codes and messages: 20 invalid, damaged, undecodable or too old input, 21 input cannot be read, 22 output
cannot be written, 70 internal error. See docs/CLI.md.
  • Volume is measured for bodies left open by a small non-planar hole.

Compatibility

Same command line and output layout as 2.0.3; new options and columns are additive (the column
order is documented in docs/CLI.md). Supported: files saved with Revit 2016-2027. Windows 10/11 x64.

DDC Converters 2.0.3 — RVT Converter and RVT to IFC

Maintenance release of DDC Converters 2.0. Update recommended for all users of 2.0.x.

Fixed

  • MEP elements (ducts, pipes, cable trays, conduits) get their reference level; every element
table row has a Level Source column. IFC places elements in the storey of their reference level.
  • Storeys: level copies inside group definitions no longer create extra IFC storeys.
  • Element table: readable category names for more built-in categories.
  • GlobalId stays stable on models whose element history has unusual tags (a building model went
from 0 to 3681 of 3682 GlobalIds matching the file's own IfcGUID).
  • Roofs: sloped roofs are split into their real slab parts instead of one flat body.
  • Walls keep the notches of their base outline and follow "extend to structure" attachment.
  • Windows: width and height fall back to the family table when the instance stores none.
  • Large models whose partition table carries auxiliary spans no longer crash or lose worksets.
  • IFC text in any language: non-ASCII names are encoded correctly (X2/X4 escapes), including
    characters outside the basic plane.

Improved

  • Georeferencing: --ifc-origin internal | project-base-point | survey-point | shared, each with
    IfcMapConversion and IfcProjectedCRS; new option --crs sets the coordinate reference system;
the geolocation stored by version 2027 files is read.
  • Quantities: Area and Volume follow the per-category rules of the authoring application
(no Area where it reports none; pipes and ducts use their outer surface). See docs/CLI.md.
  • Parameter values carry their units by parameter type; phase created/demolished, design option
and workset columns; user property sets in IFC.
  • The desktop apps read gzip-compressed property files.
  • RVT to IFC package: the compatibility launcher for the earlier program name is a small shim,
    so the package is smaller.

Compatibility

Same command line and output layout as 2.0.2; new options are additive. Supported: files saved
with Revit 2016–2027. Windows 10/11 x64; Linux and macOS builds follow.

DDC Converters for Linux and macOS (v2026.10.1)

Command-line converters for Linux (x64, arm64) and macOS (Apple Silicon arm64, Intel x64), and the DDC Data Viewer as
AppImage / deb (Linux) and dmg / app (macOS). The Windows packages are in
v2026.10.0.
This release adds the complete licence information and corresponding source code for the open-source components
that are shipped inside the packages.

  • Linux: glibc 2.35 or newer (Ubuntu 22.04 or newer, Debian 12 or newer). The .deb needs WebKitGTK 4.1 from the system.
  • macOS: signed ad hoc, not notarized. After unpacking clear the quarantine flag once:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine <unpacked folder or .app> (dmg: copy the app to Applications first).

Open-source components and licences

  • Data Viewer AppImage (Linux). It bundles shared libraries of Ubuntu 22.04 (GTK, GLib, WebKitGTK and others), many under
the GNU LGPL, unchanged. Inside the AppImage: usr/share/doc/ddc-data-viewer/THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES-linux.txt (every library
with package, version, licence and SHA-256), the full licence texts (usr/share/doc/ddc-data-viewer/licenses/: GPL-2, GPL-3,
LGPL-2, LGPL-2.1, LGPL-3, MPL-2.0, Apache-2.0, BSD and others), the copyright file of each package
(usr/share/doc/<package>/copyright), SOURCE-OFFER.txt and REPLACE-LIBRARIES.txt. The same list is a separate asset:
    THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES-linux-<arch>.txt.
  • Corresponding source code. ddc-data-viewer-2.0.0-linux-<arch>-third-party-sources.tar.xz holds the source packages
(original sources, distribution patches and build scripts) of exactly the versions bundled. The offer is in
SOURCE-OFFER-linux-<arch>.txt; it is valid for at least three years after the last distribution, contact
    info@datadrivenconstruction.io.
  • Replacing a library. Unpack with ./ddc-data-viewer-2.0.0-linux-x64.AppImage --appimage-extract, copy your build of a
library over the file of the same name in squashfs-root/usr/lib/, start squashfs-root/AppRun (or set LD_LIBRARY_PATH).
    Details: REPLACE-LIBRARIES.txt.
  • Not bundled. libjbig0 (JBIG-KIT, GPL-2+ without a linking exception) is left out of the AppImage and stays a system library.
  • .deb and macOS app: usr/share/doc/ddc-data-viewer/THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt and
Contents/Resources/licenses/THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt list the application's own components (Rust crates, web bundle).
  • Command-line tools: licenses/ inside each archive holds the licence texts of the bundled Python runtime parts
(OpenSSL, libffi, mpdecimal, HACL*, Expat), verbatim from the upstream version used in the build (CPython 3.13.15 on macOS, 3.13.16 on Linux) and, on Linux, the copyright file of every shared library taken from the distribution.
    The rvt-decode archive contains EULA.txt, NOTICE.txt, THIRD_PARTY_CRATES.txt and licenses/THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt
    (Rust crates).

Licence

Free for non-commercial use only; commercial use requires a licence on request (info@datadrivenconstruction.io). Terms: the
DataDrivenConstruction EULA included in each package. Third-party components keep their own licences, see above.

The packages are built by a public GitHub Actions workflow
(ddc-release-builds) and checked on the build machines by
converting small open sample files; the Data Viewer is started on a virtual display (Linux) or the desktop session (macOS)
and must stay up without errors. Every package, source archive and notice file of this release carries a build provenance attestation; the checksum file is signed with cosign.

@datadrivenconstruction datadrivenconstruction released this 23 Oct 01:46

DDC Converters 2.0.2 — RVT Converter and RVT to IFC

Maintenance release of DDC Converters 2.0. Update recommended for all users of 2.0.0 and 2.0.1.

Fixed

  • Revit 2022 and 2023 models that stopped with "corrupt gzip stream" now convert.
  • A failed conversion no longer leaves an empty (0-byte) IFC or table behind; results are written
only when complete, and the error is reported.
  • Stairs are no longer written twice; railing posts are placed along their railing instead of at the
    project origin.
  • Rooms and model lines are not reported as elements with missing 3D bodies.

Improved

  • IFC GlobalId now equals the IfcGUID Revit assigns to each element, so IFC files from DDC and
from Revit can be matched element by element. GlobalIds differ from those written by 2.0.1.

  • IFC: type objects carry layer width, layer count and wall function.

  • New option --properties-gzip writes properties.jsonl.gz (much smaller).

  • IFC: shared coordinates. The site is placed at the Revit project position and every file carries
IfcMapConversion, so models line up with other disciplines and survey data.

  • IFC: repeated family instances are written once and referenced (IfcMappedItem) — smaller files.

  • New option --tessellation coarse for lighter geometry.

  • New option --diagnose-streams writes a short report to send to support when a file does not open.

Compatibility

Same command line and output layout as 2.0.1. Supported: files saved with Revit 2016–2027. Windows 10/11 x64; Linux and macOS builds follow.

DDC Converters 2.0 is the October 2026 release of the whole line: RVT Converter 2.0, RVT to IFC 2.0,
IFC to Excel 2.0, DWG to Excel 2.0, Data Viewer 2.0 and Excel Add-in 2.0. Each run writes a report of what
was read and what was skipped.

Packages

Package Version Reads Writes
DDC RVT Converter 2.0 .rvt, .rfa saved by Autodesk® Revit® 2019–2027 GLB, glTF, OBJ, IFC4, properties JSONL; desktop app also CSV / SQLite
DDC RVT to IFC 2.0 .rvt, .rfa IFC4 with profiles full, coordination, geometry
DDC IFC to Excel 2.0 IFC2x3 / IFC4, .ifczip XLSX, JSONL, SQLite
DDC DWG to Excel 2.0 .dwg R13–2018 XLSX, CSV, JSONL, DXF, SVG
DDC Data Viewer 2.0 XLSX, CSV, JSONL, Parquet + GLB / DAE XLSX, CSV
DDC Excel Add-in (Excel 2016+) 2.0 .rvt, .rfa, .ifc, .ifczip, .dwg through the converters above (downloaded on first use after confirmation) Excel table, one row per element

*-Setup.exe is a Windows installer; *-portable.zip runs from any folder without installation.
Windows 10/11 x64. Linux and macOS builds are in the section below.

What is new

  • IFC4 export from Revit: openings and fill relations for doors and windows, building storeys from the
document's levels, curtain walls, stairs and railings with their parts, closed bodies, MEP systems with
distribution ports and connections, pipe materials, common property sets for MEP elements and base quantities
(wall gross and net side area and volume, slab area and perimeter, panel areas, member span).
  • Element ids everywhere: every geometry node keeps the native element id, so tables and 3D join by ElementId.
  • DDC Data Viewer 2.0: free table and 3D viewer with two-way linking between rows and elements; English, German
and Russian; light and dark theme.
  • Reports for every run: report.json, summary.json, result.json or REPORT.txt with counts.
  • Desktop apps and command line for every converter, with exit codes and one-line JSON status for scripts.

Command lines

RVTconverter.exe "C:\Models\Project.rvt" -o "C:\Out\Project" --properties --ifc
runtime\python.exe sources\ifc-excel\converter.py "C:\Models\Building.ifc" --output "C:\Out\Building"
dwg2excel.exe "C:\Drawings\Plan.dwg" -o "C:\Out"

Supported scope

  • RVT: textures are not exported; IFC export writes tessellated IFC4.
  • IFC: IFCXML is not supported.
  • DWG: some object types are listed as unsupported in report.json instead of being exported.
  • Windows 10/11 x64.

Linux and macOS

Command-line converters for Linux (x64, arm64) and macOS (Apple Silicon arm64, Intel x64), and the Data Viewer
as AppImage / deb (Linux) and dmg / app (macOS). Same file formats and reports as the Windows packages.
