Make telemetry optional

I noticed you use Sentry for telemetry. I would like to have the option for a tool that handles quite private data to disable telemetry. In general, it would also be good to write some documentation explaining what telemetry is gathered.

Please let me know if I have missed an option to disable telemetry. I am willing to build from source as I will need to anyway for NixOS support.

@brakenium I think this is a great idea to opt-in to telemetry. I, initially, set up the telemetry to receive model misclassifications. As a side effect, we got error reporting.

What do you think to:

• Make the telemetry opt in
• Ask the user during onboarding
• If opted out, disable misclassification notification button

Thank you for sharing the podcast episode! We had no idea and it made our day to be mentioned.

We just pushed a new version 1.6.2 that contains the opt-in telemetry implementation. Again, thank you for putting out the lack of oversight on my side.

Btw, would you be ok to write about this open source case (developers publish open source code, user finds oversight mistake, creates a discussion, improves software)? I think it is a great story for open source.

No problem!

I will try it out when I have the time. Not sure if I'll try to package for Home Assistant (Docker) or NixOS yet, but that is where I'd like to deploy. Home Assistant has some nice LLM integrations, but I was put off by sharing everything with a provider. Not sure how well it will work for that usecase, but I think some kind of privacy proxy would be a good idea.

Not sure what you mean by me writing about this. I don't have a blog or anything, and I am not sure what you are looking for. Would you mind elaborating? To me this is just how open source is supposed to be. Maybe just more open than some other projects, though I haven't really requested features before.
