Smarn 0.4.2

Choose a tag to compare

@mj-jadhav mj-jadhav released this 06 Oct 10:01

Adds a macOS application menu (Smarn / Edit / Window) so Settings… (⌘,), Memory… (⌘M) and Ask about the Screen are reachable without the tray icon or global hotkeys.

Set your own global shortcuts for "Ask about the screen" and "Ask memory" in Settings → Shortcuts.

Updates are now checked by the app at launch and offered from the Settings window (and the overlay), so you no longer need to open the overlay to pick up a new version. Settings also gets a manual "Check for updates" button.

Smarn 0.4.0 — Run commands and insert into your terminal

@mj-jadhav mj-jadhav released this 06 Oct 07:38

FR-09 execution: run commands from an answer in a Smarn-owned terminal (Read runs at once, state-changing commands confirm first, destructive/production ones stay copy-only), Stop a live run, ask a follow-up about its output, or Insert the command into your own terminal (never pressing Enter).

Fixes:

  • Settings and Memory windows reopen correctly after you close them.
  • Inserting into the terminal now prompts for Accessibility instead of silently typing nothing.

Apple Silicon, signed + notarized. Updates arrive automatically for existing installs.

Ask your memory (Apple Silicon, macOS 14+).

  • ⌥⇧Space — ask about what you saw earlier. The overlay opens in Memory mode: no screenshot; your question is answered from the best-matching captures' text and cites them as [1], [2]… Click a source to open it in the Memory window.
  • Spoken answers (Settings → AI → Speak answers aloud; off by default). On-device voice, nothing uploaded.
  • Settings → AI: provider and model, plus this month's calls, tokens and estimated cost.
  • Only redacted text ever leaves the Mac; images never do in Memory mode.

Existing installs update automatically.

Local screenshot memory (Apple Silicon, macOS 14+).

  • Memory: every capture you ask about is now kept on your Mac — image + on-screen text — and searchable with no AI involved. Open it from the menu-bar icon → Memory… or press ⌥⇧Space. Search by app ("whatsapp"), by text on screen (an error message), filter by date; click a capture for the full image and its text; forget any capture.
  • Settings → Memory: turn remembering on/off (on by default), see how much is stored, open Memory, or delete everything.
  • Nothing in memory is uploaded anywhere. Only redacted text is stored.

Existing installs update automatically.

Smarn 0.1.1

@mj-jadhav mj-jadhav released this 06 Oct 04:34

Onboarding release (Apple Silicon, macOS 14+).

  • New Welcome to Smarn window on first launch: what Smarn captures and where it goes, a live permission checklist with Grant / Open Settings, and in-app Anthropic API key entry (stored in your Keychain). Also reachable from the menu-bar icon → Settings…
  • No more surprise Input Monitoring prompt at launch; voice permissions are granted from the window when you want them.
  • Debug logging removed.

Existing 0.1.0 installs update automatically (you'll see a “Restart to update” chip).

Smarn 0.1.0

@mj-jadhav mj-jadhav released this 06 Oct 03:51

First internal build (Apple Silicon, macOS 14+).

  • Ask about what's on screen: screenshot + on-device OCR + Claude (bring your own Anthropic key)
  • Push-to-talk voice (hold Right Option), on-device speech-to-text
  • Typed response blocks; commands are risk-rated by a deterministic gate — nothing runs without you

Install: open the .dmg, drag Smarn to Applications. On first launch grant Screen Recording, Accessibility and (for voice) Microphone + Input Monitoring in System Settings → Privacy & Security, then relaunch.
