Canvas Inbox Messenger v0.5.0 — Course and section audiences
Adds audiences for all active students in a course or chosen sections on macOS and Windows.
Examples:
- “Message all students in my SPAN101 course.”
- “Message everyone in SPAN101 section 02.”
- “Message students below 70% in sections 01 and 02.”
The plugin lists section names and IDs, verifies they belong to the selected course, and deduplicates students with multiple selected section enrollments. All-students audiences include students without grades or activity history. Teachers and inactive/completed student enrollments are excluded.
The full audience review, message drafting, final send approval, personalization, and course-link workflow remain in place. An empty condition object does not select everyone automatically; all-students selection must be explicit.
All 17 automated checks passed. Installed server startup and discovery of all 13 tools passed. No live student messages were sent. Requires Node.js 22+, your own Canvas token, and a Local desktop chat. Windows credential loading still needs verification on Windows.
For the Git marketplace, refresh canvas-inbox-github and reinstall canvas-inbox-plugin@canvas-inbox-github. Restart the desktop app after updating.
Canvas Inbox Messenger v0.4.0 — Course links
Adds direct course links to Canvas Inbox messages on macOS and Windows.
- Find published course pages, assignments, quizzes, New Quizzes through their assignments, and discussion topics by title or ID.
- Include labeled full Canvas URLs inside message text or in a Course links section.
- Resolve links in the selected course and show their destinations in the final send preview.
- Preserve the existing course selection, audience approval, message drafting, and final send approval workflow.
Example: “Include links to the Week 3 study guide and practice quiz.”
All 15 automated checks passed, including rejection of unpublished and foreign-course destinations and preservation of the approved links through a mocked send. Installed server startup and discovery of all 12 tools passed. No live student messages were sent. Published content may still have dates, prerequisites, or individual access restrictions.
Both ZIP downloads include the full shared source and platform setup scripts. Requires Node.js 22+ and your own Canvas token. Windows credential loading and startup still need verification on a Windows computer. Restart the desktop app after updating.
Canvas Inbox Messenger v0.3.0 — macOS and Windows
Canvas Inbox Messenger v0.3.0 for macOS and Windows.
Download the ZIP labeled for your operating system and follow README.md. Both downloads include the complete shared source and both platform setup scripts. Requires Node.js 22 or newer, local desktop plugin/MCP support, and your own BYU-Idaho Canvas personal access token.
The workflow presents active courses, accepts conditions in natural language, asks for student-list approval, helps draft individual messages, and asks for final send approval.
Includes encrypted Windows token setup through PowerShell and existing macOS Keychain support. Credentials and student data are not included.
All 11 automated checks passed during development. Windows PowerShell token loading and desktop startup still need verification on a Windows computer. The plugin runs locally; this repository does not deploy a browser-accessible Canvas server.
