v1.97.26
People new to the terminal ran the install line and then did not know what to do next. The installer printed technical output, did not ask where Dex should live, and ended with commands to retype. On Windows the instructions pointed at PowerShell. This release fixes that. Dex is also now under the MIT licence.
What this fixes for you:
- A proper welcome. The installer says hello, explains what Dex is, and tells you that desktop and mobile apps are coming, with a link to sign up for the beta at heydex.ai/beta.
- You choose the folder. Press Enter for the suggested
Dexfolder, or type another. Dex warns you if the folder syncs to iCloud or OneDrive. - Missing tools are explained in plain English. If Git, Node.js or Python is missing, Dex opens the right download page, tells you what to click, and checks again.
- Calm progress. Five numbered steps, a "still working" note so it never looks frozen, and three ✓ final checks.
- One question at the end. "Would you like to start Dex in Claude Code now?" Say yes and Claude Code opens in your Dex folder and setup starts by itself. Say no and you get the exact steps.
- If something fails, you know what to send. The install log is saved in your Dex folder, and the screen says where to send it.
- Windows uses Git Bash, not PowerShell. PowerShell now points you to Git Bash, and the default folder is
C:\Users\<you>\Dex. - Dex is MIT licensed. You can use, change and share Dex freely, including at work.
