Pastrix 1.4.0 — icons for your pinboards, easier installs

Make each pinboard recognizable

Right-click a pinboard and choose Choose Icon for shortcuts such as Star, Briefcase, and Lightbulb. Choose More Icons… or Edit Pinboard… to browse a colored, categorized grid and search by name or keywords. Keep a Color Dot if you prefer a simpler tab.

Existing pinboard names, colors, icons, and dot choices are preserved. New boards start with a pin icon. The demo shows a star for Favorites, a briefcase for Work, and a lightbulb for Ideas. Choosing Color Dot now correctly clears a previously saved icon.

Install your way

brew install --cask davidgrossman/pastrix/pastrix

The project-maintained Homebrew tap verifies the versioned DMG’s checksum and installs the app. It is separate from Homebrew’s main cask catalog. Quit the app before upgrades, then run brew update and brew upgrade --cask davidgrossman/pastrix/pastrix.

The release also includes a drag-to-Applications DMG, ZIP, and SHA-256 files. The installation guide covers upgrades from manual installs, uninstallation without erasing history, verified Terminal downloads, source builds, and a copyable prompt for Claude Code, Codex, or other agents. The README and project site put these choices up front.

Requirements and limits

Apple Silicon, macOS 14+. This preview remains ad-hoc signed and not notarized. Use macOS’s per-app Open Anyway flow if blocked. No installer disables Gatekeeper, removes quarantine, starts clipboard capture, or grants Accessibility.

The public download remains local-only. The CloudKit implementation still requires Apple provisioning and live two-Mac validation. iPhone/iPad companions, a native CLI/MCP interface, Developer ID distribution, and a signed in-app updater are future work.

Validation

90 automated tests pass with isolated fixtures. Release packaging verifies signatures, archive integrity, checksums, and the read-only DMG layout. Homebrew style and audit checks pass; installation into an isolated app directory was verified without launching the installed copy or accessing real history. See validation details.

Pastrix 1.3.1 — pinboards, Undo and a Mac installer

Pastrix 1.3.1 — pinboards with less friction

Drag a clip onto a pinboard name, or Command-click individual clips / Shift-click a range and drag them together. The destination highlights, the drag preview shows the group count, and confirmation names the destination. Command-Z or Undo restores the previous pinboard placement. Right-click and the clip menu remain available. Unpinning refreshes clip recency, and Undo reports how many clips were actually restored.

Download and install

Choose Pastrix-1.3.1-macOS-arm64.dmg, open it, and drag Pastrix onto Applications. A ZIP is also provided. Verify the matching .sha256 file with shasum -a 256 -c <download-name>.sha256 before installing.

This early preview targets Apple Silicon and macOS 14+. It is ad-hoc signed, not notarized. Use macOS's per-app Open / Open Anyway flow if needed; do not disable Gatekeeper globally. Quit older copies before installing. The legacy bundle identifier and history location are preserved.

Encrypted Mac-to-Mac sync implementation

The source includes selected-pinboard sync using a private CloudKit database, AES-256-GCM payload encryption, synchronizable Keychain, account binding, conflict choices and offline retry. Settings require explicit setup and board selection. Unpinned history is never uploaded.

The public download is local-only. Live sync still requires Apple provisioning, schema deployment and two-Mac acceptance testing. Default builds do not attempt CloudKit access. See setup, limits and security details.

Finder file references cannot sync as portable files. Disabling sync retains existing cloud copies. The local database and JSON backups remain readable to your account. Device-specific key revocation and cloud erasure controls are future work.

Next

Native iPhone/iPad companions, mobile sharing, accessibility/appearance coverage, and broader signed distribution are on the roadmap. No mobile binary, AI service, MCP server or CLI is included in this release.

Version 1.3.1 also fixes a Swift compiler compatibility issue found by GitHub CI before public binaries were released. The 1.3.0 tag is retained as an unpublished candidate.

Validation: 87 synthetic tests, packaging parser checks, strict app signature and read-only DMG checks passed locally. Claude Code Opus review and fix dispositions.

Pastrix 1.2.2 — New name, purple clipboard icon

Pastrix 1.2.2 — new name and icon

Paster is now Pastrix. Version 1.2.2 introduces the new name, purple clipboard P icon, repository, website, app-bundle name, and Swift package target names. This is a rebrand release; it does not add a feature or broaden the app's compatibility claims.

Updating from Paster

Pastrix keeps the existing bundle identifier and continues to use ~/Library/Application Support/Paster/history.sqlite. That compatibility choice lets the renamed app find the history, pinboards, settings, and other local data created by Paster. Do not move or rename that folder.

Quit Paster before opening Pastrix, and replace the old application rather than running both copies. If launch at login was enabled, switch it off and on in Pastrix to register the renamed app with macOS. macOS may ask you to reauthorize Accessibility for the new build.

Download and installation

Download Pastrix-1.2.2-macOS-arm64.zip and SHA256SUMS.txt from the release. Verify the ZIP using the checksum, unzip it, and move Pastrix.app to Applications.

The app targets macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon. The included binary is ad-hoc signed, not Developer ID signed or Apple-notarized. macOS may block its first launch. If you decide to trust it after reviewing the source and checksum, use macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway when offered. Do not disable Gatekeeper globally. Building from source is also supported.

Accessibility permission is needed for direct paste and ordinary-⌘V queue delivery. Basic history, search, pinboards, copying, and queue management do not require it. Existing validation limits still apply: external-app paste, drag/drop, prolonged capture, sleep/wake, multiple displays, the full macOS 14+ range, and Intel Macs do not have broad coverage. No Intel download is included.

Earlier release notes retain the Paster name because that was the app's name when those versions shipped.

Paster 1.2.1 — First public preview

Paster is now Pastrix. Download the renamed app with its new purple clipboard P icon from Pastrix 1.2.2. The older download below retains its original Paster name.

Paster 1.2.1 — first public preview

Paster is now available as an MIT-licensed native Mac clipboard manager, with source, tests, a contributor guide and a downloadable Apple Silicon app.

This release retains the 1.2 clipboard shelf, pinboards, snippets, sharing, recent-copy menu and explicit paste queue sessions. It removes a machine-specific update path: Check for Updates now requests public release metadata from GitHub when you click it. Send Feedback lets you save a local draft or open the repository's issue chooser in your browser; you review and submit any report yourself.

Download and installation

Download Paster-1.2.1-macOS-arm64.zip and SHA256SUMS.txt from this release. Verify the ZIP using the checksum, unzip it and move Paster.app to Applications.

The app targets macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon. The included binary was built and tested on the maintainer's Apple Silicon Mac, not every supported macOS version. It is ad-hoc signed, not Developer ID signed or Apple-notarized. macOS may block its first launch. If you decide to trust it after reviewing the source and checksum, use macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway when offered. Do not disable Gatekeeper globally. Building from source is also supported.

Open the menu-bar clipboard icon or press ⌘⇧V for history. If another clipboard manager already owns that shortcut, use the menu-bar icon. Accessibility permission is needed for direct paste and ordinary-⌘V queue delivery; basic history and copying do not require that permission.

Validation and limits

All 45 tests pass. The test suite uses synthetic data and named pasteboards. External-app paste, drag/drop, prolonged capture, sleep/wake and multiple displays need broader community validation. The queue is session-only and deduplicates clips. Very rapid consecutive copies can be missed because clipboard monitoring polls for changes. File clips refer to the original file, so moving/deleting it can break the reference.

No cloud sync, iOS app, OCR, AI, MCP server or Intel download is included. See the README, privacy documentation and roadmap for details and ways to help.
