Community-test prerelease ahead of the planned 5.9.6 release. The stable release and automatic-update channel remain unchanged.
Changes since dev.11
- Keep Luma/Chroma previews responsive while image metadata loads. Switching filters, sources, rows, or closing a viewer cancels superseded work and prevents stale effects from replacing the selected mode.
- Read structured PNG color metadata and PNG/JPEG/WebP ICC profiles, giving embedded metadata precedence over filename hints. Support profiles beyond the initial header and validate malformed metadata safely.
- Retry temporary metadata failures instead of permanently caching the fallback. Bound metadata download sizes, decompression, request duration, concurrency, and caches.
- Remove duplicate hover handling and unused code. Clarify the limits of browser-based color and gamma previews.
Install and test
Install the dev userscript manually in your userscript manager. Choose Update/Reinstall if prompted, then reload your comparison pages. If you installed a timestamped local test copy, disable it so only one yacomp copy is enabled.
Please focus on:
- Cycle filters with F, then switch sources and rows quickly while images load. The visible effect should match the selected mode, without stuck filters, frozen navigation, or stale loading indicators.
- In a three-column HDBits viewer, verify that 0 fits the complete image width and O permits horizontal scrolling when the original image is wider.
- Toggle the HDBits comparison/viewer switch in both directions; column selection should also apply when opening a thumbnail.
- Check per-source brightness/gamma adjustments, reset behavior, and repeated viewer close/reopen cycles.
For problems, report browser/version, the steps to reproduce, and a screenshot showing the mode indicator. Avoid including private tracker account information.
Validation
- 430 unit tests passed.
- 373 browser tests passed; one existing fixture-dependent test skipped.
- Source and test typechecks, unused-code checks, build verification, and manual Chrome testing passed.
- Built from the same source tree as the manually tested candidate.
- Reproduced the published userscript byte-for-byte with Bun 1.4.2, the release workflow's version, and repeated all unit/browser tests successfully with that version.
These filters are display-RGB inspection aids, not exact reconstruction of source-video HDR or YUV data.
