The WyzeCam are IOT cameras. Like other IoT things, they are not without security concerns but they are cheap and twidled right they unlock the ability to do neat things like facial recognition doorbells, surveillance monitors, person detecting doorbells, and more.
To unlock those features you want them to be a [RTSP] source. This means installing alternative firmware for RTSP.
- Initial setup
- Download the [Wyze app] on your smartphone or tablet.
- Connect the device to a wifi network
-
install firmware
- download the appropriate firmware zip
- unzip firmware and rename to
demo.bin - put
demo.binon a microSD card root folder - unplug Wyze Cam and insert SD card
- Hold the camera's Setup button while plugging in the USB cable and continue to hold the Setup button until the light turns solid blue (or actually yellow for me) for Wyze Cam v2 and Pan or purple for Wyze Cam v3.
- release Setup button and wait 3-4 minutes for the camera to reboot and status light change.
- Check firmware update applied in WyzeApp
- Connect to Camera -> Settings -> Device Info -> Firmware Version (take note of the IP too)
- Enable RTSP in app: Camera -> Settings -> Advanced Settings -> RTSP Enable -> Create username/password on camera
- Creates an rtsp://user:pass@ip/live URL
