- CUJ
It has two parts needs to be remarked: the TL;DR, and the CUJ overview table.
Overview of This Release
In this release we completed Competitive CUJ by running an end-to-end customer user journey on ClickUp as a direct comparison point for DevDeck. The document includes a detailed persona section, tools used, step-by-step CUJ table, highlights and lowlights, product recommendations, and a competitive analysis between ClickUp and DevDeck.
Our CUJ walks through using ClickUp’s AI to plan DevDeck’s onboarding work: signing in, opening the DevDeck board, discovering the different AI entry points, checking online docs, prompting Brain to generate frontend and backend onboarding tickets, waiting for the tasks to be inserted into the List, enriching them with in-task AI, and finally assigning owners, due dates, priorities, and statuses. From this flow we captured concrete pain points—unclear AI entry points, noticeable generation latency, and the need for very structured prompts—and translated them into product requirements and differentiators for DevDeck, such as a single contextual AI surface, faster task creation, and opinionated templates that reduce prompt burden.
Additional Notes / Reflections
This assignment helped us clarify how DevDeck should position itself relative to a mature general-purpose tool like ClickUp:
- Where ClickUp is strong: workspace structure, board/List views, templates, and classic task management workflows.
- Where we differentiate: DevDeck is framed as an embedded intelligence layer, not just a chat box. Our focus is developer-specific workflows, contextual automation, and tight integration with code, terminals, and infrastructure, rather than broad team task UI.
These insights will directly inform our future UX and technical design decisions for DevDeck’s AI layer.
