Chrome Extension v1.0.4 — Generic progress labels
Progress now uses Fetching comments… and Analyzing the discussion…, with generic milestones and supporting text. Cached-result pacing remains five seconds per stage, with the same ghost animations, preview timing and background-tab resume behavior. The matching website update is deployed separately.
- Local installation: use
dead-internet-theory-chrome-1.0.4.zip. Replace the files in your existing unpacked extension folder and click Reload inchrome://extensions. For a first install, extract the ZIP and use Developer mode → Load unpacked. - Chrome Web Store upload: use
dead-internet-theory-chrome-webstore-1.0.4.zip. This ZIP omits the development manifest key. This GitHub release does not upload to or publish on Chrome Web Store.
Both variants include the same executable code and attached SHA-256 checksums. Permissions, extension identity handling, anonymous storage, provider work and retention are unchanged. No ingestion/inference redeployment is needed.
Validation: 244 tests pass, both builds/typechecks pass, and actual archive/version/checksum/identity checks pass. Compiled scripts contain the generic headings and omit the superseded cache-specific progress phrases. Existing exact timing, cancellation and visibility-resume tests pass.
Chrome Extension v1.0.3 — Cached result animations
The Chrome extension now matches the website’s saved-result pacing: 5 seconds loading saved comments → 5 seconds preparing saved analysis → report, with the ghost following both phases and the comment preview appearing during analysis.
Background-tab resume keeps the original countdown. Returning to a report already shown in that view does not replay it. Live work keeps its actual timing, and the presentation reuses stored results without additional collection or inference work. Includes the existing Use Current Page shortcut and the shared report layout with the source post below all analytics.
Install or update locally
Download dead-internet-theory-chrome-1.0.3.zip. Extract its contents into your existing unpacked extension folder, then open chrome://extensions and click Reload. First-time installs: enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the extracted folder containing manifest.json. Keeping the existing installation/storage preserves its anonymous session. Permissions and the development extension ID are unchanged from v1.0.2.
Chrome Web Store upload
Use dead-internet-theory-chrome-webstore-1.0.3.zip in the developer dashboard. This variant omits the development manifest key and unpacked-install instructions. Its executable code matches the unpacked ZIP. Keep the assigned listing ID registered in the API allowlist before review; the client uses Chrome’s runtime ID automatically. This GitHub release does not upload to or publish on Chrome Web Store.
SHA-256 checksums are attached for both ZIPs. No provider keys or backend configuration are required in the extension, and no ingestion/inference redeployment is needed.
Validation: 244 tests pass across extension and website, both builds/typechecks pass, actual archive/checksum/identity checks pass, and native Chromium verified the packaged extension’s worker/storage/session transport, two timed stages, GET-only full-report opening and responsive report order. Browser API replies were synthetic; no live provider work was started.
Chrome Extension v1.0.2 — Use Current Page
Adds Use Current Page, a secondary button directly beneath Analyze post in the Chrome sidebar.
- Reads the currently active tab and fills the URL input for supported Reddit posts, TikTok videos/share links, and YouTube videos/Shorts.
- Never starts analysis automatically. Review the link and click Analyze post when ready.
- Unsupported pages show an inline error while preserving the existing input.
- Manual URL entry and full-page report navigation retain their existing behavior.
- Adds the tabs permission so the button continues to work after switching tabs while the sidebar stays open. URLs are read on explicit user action; no background page monitoring is added.
Install or update locally
Download dead-internet-theory-chrome-1.0.2.zip, extract it, open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode, and choose Load unpacked for the folder containing manifest.json. To update an existing unpacked installation, replace the files in its existing folder and click Reload. Review/accept the new tabs permission if Chrome prompts.
Chrome Web Store upload
Use dead-internet-theory-chrome-webstore-1.0.2.zip. This variant has manifest.json at the archive root and omits the development key field. The ordinary unpacked ZIP retains the development identity. Both variants contain identical executable code.
The store-assigned extension ID must be allowed by the website API before the store build can connect. A GitHub release does not submit or publish a Chrome Web Store listing.
Validation
All 54 extension tests pass. TypeScript, the production build, and unpacked/Web Store packaging pass. Both archives were verified for version, permissions, manifest identity handling, ZIP integrity, matching executable content, and SHA-256 checksums. Checksums are attached.
Includes #73; release version prepared in #74. No backend or inference changes or redeployments are required.
Chrome Extension v1.0.1 — Web Store upload fix
Fixes the Chrome Web Store upload rejection caused by the development manifest key.
Upload to Chrome Web Store
Use dead-internet-theory-chrome-webstore-1.0.1.zip. It has a root manifest.json with no key field. Upload this ZIP directly to create the draft item.
After upload, copy the draft's 32-letter Item ID and send it to the project owner so it can be added to the API allowlist before submitting for review. The package automatically uses Chrome's installed ID. This release preserves the strict allowlist; the new store ID is not known until the first successful draft upload.
Install locally
Use dead-internet-theory-chrome-1.0.1.zip for Chrome's Load unpacked flow. Extract it, open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked and select the extracted folder. This variant retains the fixed development public key and continues to use the existing enabled development identity.
Both packages include the same executable code; checksums are attached. No provider keys are included or required.
Validation: 184 website tests and 17 extension tests pass, both builds/typechecks pass, and canonical contract checks pass. The keyless package was loaded in real Chromium under a distinct ID: its worker/session/form initialized, requests used that ID, no automatic analysis was submitted and there were no application errors. Archive tests verify the store manifest has no key, the unpacked manifest keeps it, and executable payloads match.
