v0.5.0
TuxCleaner 0.5.0 focuses on maintainability and reliable operation history while preserving the existing safety-first command and TUI workflows.
Highlights
- Split the CLI into focused modules for arguments, cleanup, uninstall, disk analysis, purge, informational commands, and shared output support.
- Split the TUI into state and event handling, rendering, and asynchronous workflow execution modules.
- Serialize concurrent history readers and writers through a separate advisory lock file.
- Rotate the active history file at 5 MiB and retain three previous files.
- Preserve newest-first history ordering across rotated files.
- Skip isolated malformed JSON or UTF-8 records instead of making the complete history unavailable.
- Protect history and lock files with owner-only permissions (
0600), including existing files opened for writing. - Add tests for concurrent writers, rotation, retention, malformed records, and history permissions.

TuxCleaner v0.4.0
What's new
- Rebuilt the interactive experience as a persistent Ratatui application.
- Added immediate loading screens and asynchronous discovery across the TUI workflows.
- Added consistent
Escback navigation and contextual keyboard help. - Added an interactive Analyze explorer with directory navigation, filtering, top-file view, multi-selection, cancellable scans, and explicit permanent-deletion confirmation.
- Moved Clean, Uninstall, and Purge selection, review, and confirmation into the TUI.
- Added Status, History, and Update screens to the interactive application.
- Fixed privileged operations so the TUI pauses for a visible
sudopassword prompt, then resumes safely without hidden password requests. - Refreshed the README, architecture notes, screenshots, social preview, and VHS demo for the new interface.
TuxCleaner still defaults to preview-first behavior: destructive operations require explicit confirmation, and permanent file removal is clearly identified before execution.
