It's been a minute, but its here!

sfsfs

Sorry for the wait! This was originally going to be a small update but it ended up spiraling into this lol.

I'm VERY sorry that I left all the bugs reported in v0.1.0 in until this update.
Thank you to everyone who helped!

Mood + sleep and hunger cycle.

Added a basic Mood system along with a sleep and hunger cycle.
You can feed Expie by dragging a food item into their mouth.
Multiple things can influence their mood:

  • Spawned Expie now become tired overtime and will eventually fall asleep. Sleeping will slowly increase their mood.
  • Expie will slowly become hungry overtime and will eventually ask for food. A low hunger will result their mood decreasing
  • Inverse to above, an Expie being full will result in their mood increasing overtime.
  • Grabbing the Expie for an extended period of time will drastically decrease their mood.
  • Feeding the Expie tasty items will increase their mood and decrease their hunger. The inverse of feeding them bad tasting food will decrease their mood.
  • Petting Expie will increase their mood.

All of this can be disabled if you just want a little guy roaming around your screen.

Wayland support @Bill3621 PR #37

YEP. This hasn't been tested on every Linux distro known to man, but I know Bazzite, Fedora, KDE Neon, SteamOS, Arch, and Nobara work so far.

Thank you SOOOO much for this @Bill3621

Item spawner menu

Added basic Item Spawner menu in the console tab. There is only a few items and its very rudimentary but more will be added soon! items are sorted A-z

Additional animations

The addition of more animations so that they do more than just walk around aimlessly

Sitting and laying down

  • Expie will now periodically sit or lay down for a period of time before going back to walking around.

Jumping

  • Expie will now jump over objects if able to. Includes a falling and jumping animation.

Misc/other

  • Settings improvements by @hamster-042 in #14
  • meta changes to items and expies skins, misc fixes by @hamster-042 in #31
  • Fixed incorrect placement of a few joints inside the Expie.
  • Complete removal of deprecated Statistics tab inside the console window.
  • Temporary removal of Pixel filter because it was really ugly and caused problems.
  • Made every single spawned Expie have independent behavior as before they behaved as a hive mind when hooked up to the mood system
  • Fixed the bug where Expie is put into an horrible and endless state of torment whenever something was missing from the config file.
  • Fixed the Gaster bug that effected specific Linux distros (unable to import a font properly and falling back to wingdings or whatever).
  • Expie can now reject being petted if they are sad enough giving the user reason to keep them happy.
  • Added a direct link to the skin database in the skin menu.
  • Removal of commands that either didn't work or did nothing.
  • Revamp of physics settings. No more rapidly spinning Expie when you grab them.

Performance optimizations will probably come next. I have zero idea if the Mac build works as I don't have a Mac to test on.

Hey yall! We have some new people helping with this project!

@VileBeggar

@hamster-042

Thank you for helping with bug fixing and implementing new features while I was off participating in GMTK 2026! Yall are awesome and I appreciate everything you do!

This update goes over most things listed in PR #11 aswell as adding a few new features such as...

Petting! (finally) @VileBeggar

This one has been requested for a while! I probably should've it way implemented it earlier but it's here!
You can now left click on the Sawians to pet them! This does mean that the button to carry them has been moved to the right mouse button. Speaking of which...

Individual Limb Dragging @VileBeggar

This ones pretty cool! You can now drag them by their individual limbs. Hands, legs, tail, etc.

Sounds @VileBeggar and @hamster-042

They now make sounds when they talk, aswell as in reaction to actions! This can be disabled in settings.
pr #12

Skin Menu @hamster-042

Alot of people were having trouble with custom skins, and the new tab inside the console makes this easier!

desksawssone

Again, thank you to the new contributors! This update was pretty much all them. Thanks! @VileBeggar @hamster-042

If you run into any bugs, please go to the issue report page on the github page! It helps diagnose bugs!

This program still unfortunately doesn't work on Wayland Linux distros, I've been looking for a solution but I can't find any.

Works on xOrg distros to my knowledge.

BY ANY CHANCE IF YOU LAUNCH THIS AND THE EXPIE EITHER DOESNT SPAWN IN, OR IS IN A TERRIFIED STATE AND CANT TALK, GO INTO THE COMMAND LINE (the black window) AND RUN "nukeSettings" AND THEN RELAUNCH!

oops

1: theoretical fix of windows black screen bug
2: added monitor swap command (setMonitor) 0 would be the primary monitor
3: support for weird resolutions

linux build is broken on distros that use wayland. x11 works fine

Hotfix 1 (the first of many)

Welcome to v0.0.2

I see that the test release has amassed over 300 downloads across Linux and Windows. Woah. Thanks for checking out my project! Alot of bugs were uncovered as seen in this projects thread, and I've tried to fix as many as possible.

Fixes:

  1. Fixed the bug where the Expie was in constant panicked state and unable to talk.
  2. Fixed the taskbar going away on Linux Mint
  3. Made the console not spawn offscreen when using a low resolution
4: Reworked the dragging system (Springjoint to Pinjoint)
5: Fixed weird teleporting during ragdolls.

Additions and changes:

1: Added version checking. When 0.0.3 comes out there should be a notification telling you to update
2: Added command 'clearItems', will clear all items of a given category (ex, 'clearItems object')
3: Added command 'nukeSettings', will clear all settings and your dialogue JSON file.
4: Added a debugging console to the Windows build help with issue reporting.
5: Disabled the pixel filter by default. Caused issues on lower resolutions. It was also extremely ugly
6: Moved .JSONS and Skins to deedee14/deskSawPRE-RELEASE from deedee14/expet

OH AND BY THE WAY. ITS CALLED "DeskSaw" NOW! THE NAME WASN'T... selected by the people in my art thread!... uhhh.... sorry about that yall....

Test release! (broken, use latest version)

ough.....

Sorry if this is late!

This build is being published for TESTING PURPOSES!

Bugs are expected! The whole point of this is to help me find them! This is literally my 1st big(ish) Godot project (after like 12 mini learning
projects)

Have fun!
