v2.0.0 "Reframe" — honest profiles + the VP9 alignment fix
Reframe — the fork becomes its own line. Two changes, both hardware-verified on RK3588S (Orange Pi 5B):
The VP9 fix (carried from v1.0.11-defcom5.vp9align1)
VP9 streams with non-16-aligned coded widths (e.g. 2970×2160 Academy-ratio masters) rendered a solid green frame: the export stride was 16-aligned where the Mali importer expects 64. Export is now 64-aligned. Reproducer: REPRO.md.
Honest profile advertisement (new)
A full eyeball battery (mpv --hwdec=vaapi, MPP engagement confirmed per run) established the driver's real codec truth table:
| codec | result |
|---|---|
| H.264 8-bit | ✅ works |
| VP9 8-bit | ✅ works (incl. odd widths, per the fix above) |
| VP8 | listed, untested |
| HEVC — every bit depth | 🟩 solid green frame |
| VP9 Profile 2 (10-bit) | corrupted frames |
The driver previously advertised all of these. It now advertises only what it delivers — HEVC (all profiles), H264High10 and VP9Profile2 are no longer offered, so standard capability negotiation routes clients to their working fallbacks: media servers transcode (e.g. Jellyfin via ffmpeg-rockchip — verified correct), players fall back to software (verified correct picture). Same policy the driver already applied to AV1, and the same choice mainline's v4l2-request ffmpeg makes for unmappable 10-bit (refuse rather than mislabel).
The removed profiles return as the NV15→P010 export work lands and each codec is re-verified on hardware (tracked for v2.1 "Deep Ink").
vainfo now reports: Rockchip MPP VA-API Driver 2.0 (defcom5).
Install
sudo apt install ./rockchip-vaapi-driver_2.0.0_arm64.debRequires a BSP kernel exposing /dev/mpp_service. Upgrading from v1.0.11-defcom5.vp9align1 is a straight install-over.
