Debra MIDI Player 1.3.2
Debra MIDI Player 1.3.2
🎻 FFXIV Instrument System (new!)
Your bard now handles instruments for you:
- Auto-equip on Play — when a song starts, Debra equips your instrument through the Hypnotoad plugin. No plugin? The picker still shows you which instrument to open in the Perform menu.
- Instrument picker in the FFXIV panel — "Auto" equips your default instrument (Harp out of the box, changeable in Settings), or pick any of the 28 instruments, sorted the musical way: Harp, Piano, strings, winds, brass, percussion.
- Remembered per song — pick an instrument once and that song will always start with it, alongside your saved track mix and octave.
- Live switching — change the instrument while a song plays: Debra pauses, leaves the performance, equips the new instrument and resumes right where you were.
- Electric guitar tone changes 🎸 — MIDI files with program changes (27–31, the same convention as other bard players) now switch guitar tones automatically mid-song: Overdriven, Clean, Muted, Power Chords, Special. Instant through Hypnotoad, or via your in-game "Tone" keybinds without it (configurable in Settings).
- Auto-equip checkbox — turn it off and Debra never touches your instrument.
🖱️ Double-Click Now Prepares
Double-clicking a song (any list — Library, Catalogue, Community, Favorites, Playlists) now loads it ready at 0:00 instead of playing immediately: adjust the track mixer, pick your instrument, then press Play. The ▶ button on each row still plays instantly.
🔔 Smoother Updates
- When a new version is available, the download window now opens right at startup — no more missing updates.
- After the download finishes, Debra opens the folder with the archive selected and closes itself, so the extraction never fights a locked exe.
🛠️ Fixes
- Community filters — fixed a flicker loop where the list kept flipping between "All songs" and a genre, making songs impossible to select.
- Localization safety net — English texts are now embedded in the app itself, so a partial update can never show raw text keys again.
- Instrument names now match the in-game Perform menu (e.g. "Piano").
🌍 Languages
All 10 languages fully translated: English, Français, Deutsch, Español, Italiano, Português, 日本語, 中文, Tiếng Việt, العربية.
💜 Thank you to everyone testing and reporting — this update is shaped by your feedback!
Debra Midi Player 1.3.1
Debra Midi Player 1.3.1
The Community update: thousands of solo performances, right inside the player — plus a per-track mixer, a full security & privacy audit, and polish.
🌐 Community — a whole new module
- New Community section in the sidebar: the Debra catalogue and the bardmusicplayer.com solo MIDI repository merged into one list — around 5,000 songs ready to play.
- Search by title, artist, creator, or source work; sort by newest, title, artist, or most downloaded; filter by genre and by origin (Debra catalogue / BMP website).
- Genres are tagged automatically: over 1,700 artists and 680 source works (games, anime, movies…) classified, and the Debra catalogue styles map onto the same genres — one filter covers everything.
- Zero startup cost: the page loads from a local cache. The Update button refreshes both sources in seconds; each song downloads once on first play, then plays from the cache.
- Full player integration: next/previous, shuffle, and auto-play follow the Community list like any other.
- Plays fair with bardmusicplayer.com: the app identifies itself honestly, list refreshes only happen on demand, and download counters see one download per player — never inflated. Arrangers are credited by name on every row.
🎚 Track mixer
- The track selector in the player bar is now a mixer popup: mute or solo every MIDI track with one click (🔊/🔇, hover for Solo, "All on" to reset).
- Works live during playback and is remembered per song, like octave and Phrase Fold.
- Great with raw piano MIDIs: keep the melody, drop the accompaniment — or the other way around.
- Fixed: the per-song Phrase Fold toggle is no longer lost when a song is reloaded.
🛡 Security & privacy — full audit
- The whole app went through a complete security and privacy audit. Confirmed and now guaranteed: no telemetry, no analytics, and no personal data ever leaves your machine — no usernames, no character names, no file paths, no chat content, no keystrokes. FFXIV chat goes only to your local game.
- Update integrity: updates are now verified with a SHA-256 checksum and can only be downloaded from trusted hosts (GitHub/Discord) — a tampered update source can no longer reach you.
- Release publishing pipeline hardened end to end.
🖼 Fixes & polish
- FFXIV sidebar: the dark band beside the golden frame is gone — the sidebar now sizes itself to the artwork.
- Search boxes: the placeholder now hides while you type (Library, Catalogue, Community, Favorites).
- Help window: new Community section, and all new texts translated in the 10 languages.
Install / update
- On v1.1.2+: use the header Update button, or download DebraMidiPlayer-1.3.1-portable.zip from GitHub.
- Close Debra. Extract over your portable folder — same level as your current
DebraMidiPlayer.exe, not into a new subfolder. - Run DebraMidiPlayer.exe. Header should show v1.3.1.
- For FFXIV chat & direct notes: install Hypnotoad via XIVLauncher → Dalamud (repo:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/GiR-Zippo/Hypnotoad-Plugin/master/PluginDir/pluginmaster.json).
Debra Midi Player 1.3.0
Debra Midi Player 1.3.0
The biggest update yet: Debra now plays in Final Fantasy XIV — with in-game chat, zero-latency direct notes through the Hypnotoad plugin, a new Eorzea Night theme, and a melody-saving Phrase Fold for wide MIDIs.
Final Fantasy XIV support
- New WWM / FFXIV selector in the title bar. Each game keeps its own process target, key layouts, and theme — switch any time.
- Your keybinds, automatically: Debra reads your Performance keybinds straight from the game's
KEYBIND.DAT(37 keys, C3–C6). No manual setup. - FFXIV-aware playback: notes are held for their duration (real sustain), chords become BMP-style rolls, with chord alignment, reduction, and adaptive voicing tuned for the game's one-note instrument.
- New Eorzea Night theme with its own artwork — hero, sidebar, player corners, wallpaper. Each game now remembers the last theme you used for it.
FFXIV chat (Hypnotoad)
- With the Hypnotoad Dalamud plugin (XIVLauncher), a chat panel appears under the player: pick Say / Yell / Shout / Party / FC and send — playback never pauses and never drops a note.
- Start a message with
/to send any game command; ↩ /r replies to the last /tell you received. - 📣 Now-playing announcements with a template (
{title},{duration}) — manual or Auto at every song start. - No plugin? The panel greys out and links you straight to the download page.
Direct notes — zero latency 🎹
- When Hypnotoad is connected, notes are played inside the game: no keyboard input, works in the background, immune to keyboard layouts and focus issues.
- True legato: notes ring for their musical length instead of being cut short for key release — melodies sing, staccato stays staccato. Chord rolls got a humanized strum too.
- If the plugin disconnects mid-song, Debra falls back to keyboard keys note by note — the music never stops.
- Your live MIDI keyboard also plays through the plugin, with real held notes.
Phrase Fold — save your melodies
- New per-song toggle (player bar → More): when a MIDI is wider than the game's range, whole melodic lines shift by octaves as a unit — in-range notes follow their out-of-range neighbours, so the melody keeps its shape instead of collapsing note by note. Chords and accompaniment stay put.
- Works with every mapping mode and is remembered per song, like octave and track.
Help & languages
- The Help window got a facelift: themed cards with icons, bold lead-ins, and new sections covering the two games, FFXIV chat & direct notes, and Practice / Piano Academy.
- Localization sweep: ~120 texts that had shipped in English are now properly translated in all 9 non-English languages, and every new feature is localized in all 10.
Fixes
- Settings loading hardened: settings written by a newer version can no longer crash an older exe at startup ("The JSON value could not be converted…") — unknown values now fall back to defaults, and an unreadable settings file starts the app with defaults instead of failing (the old file is kept as
settings.json.bad). - FFXIV sidebar: menu highlight no longer paints over the golden frame.
- Theme-per-game settings corrupted by an earlier migration self-heal on launch.
Install / update
- On v1.1.2+: use the header Update button, or download DebraMidiPlayer-1.3.0-portable.zip from GitHub.
- Close Debra. Extract over your portable folder — same level as your current
DebraMidiPlayer.exe, not into a new subfolder. - Run DebraMidiPlayer.exe. Header should show v1.3.0.
⚠️ If you still have an old copy somewhere (an old folder, an old shortcut, or a leftoverWhereWindsMeetMidiPlayer.exe), delete it — launching an old exe after using 1.3.0 crashed at startup on versions before this one. - For FFXIV chat & direct notes: install Hypnotoad via XIVLauncher → Dalamud (repo:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/GiR-Zippo/Hypnotoad-Plugin/master/PluginDir/pluginmaster.json).
Debra Midi Player 1.2.2
Debra Midi Player 1.2.2
Quality-of-life release after 1.2.1: faster loading, a cleaner Library, and system-wide playback hotkeys.
Faster loading (Library + Catalogue)
- New song metadata cache: title, duration, and note counts are parsed once and remembered between sessions.
- Before: every launch re-parsed every MIDI file in your Library and Catalogue cache. Now: the first launch after this update builds the cache, and every launch after that is near-instant.
- The cache refreshes automatically when a MIDI file changes on disk.
Library stays yours
- No more automatic folder re-import at startup. The Library only reloads the songs already in it; use the Refresh button to pick up new files from your library folder.
- Playing from the Catalogue no longer adds the song to your Library cards. Same for adding a Catalogue track to a playlist.
- One-time cleanup: Catalogue downloads that earlier versions auto-added to your Library are removed from it on first launch (your favorites and playlists are untouched).
Global playback hotkeys
- New ⌨ toggle in the player bar (next to auto-play): when enabled, Play/Pause, Stop, Previous, and Next hotkeys work everywhere on your PC — even when neither Debra nor the game is focused.
- Off by default (previous behavior: hotkeys only work while Debra or the game has focus). The setting is saved.
Install / update
- On v1.1.2+: use the header Update button, or download DebraMidiPlayer-1.2.2-portable.zip from GitHub.
- Close Debra. Extract over your portable folder — same level as your current
DebraMidiPlayer.exe, not into a new subfolder. - Run DebraMidiPlayer.exe. Header should show v1.2.2.
Debra Midi Player 1.2.1
Debra Midi Player 1.2.1
Patch release after 1.2.0: Piano Academy polish, practice label UX, portable update ZIP fix, header pin, keyboard layout presets, and playback fixes.
Piano Academy
- Hand colors: left hand blue, right hand green (overlay legend, hand diagram, falling notes, and hand preview on the keyboard).
- Exercises: falling notes show finger number (center) and note name (bottom anchor) together.
- Class songs (BB-S01–S03): same dual labels; fingers inferred from pitch; notes colored by hand range (below middle C = left/blue, middle C and up = right/green).
- Keyboard in Academy: note names only (Do–Ré–Mi, C–D–E, or PC keys) — no finger numbers on keys.
Practice labels (falling notes + keyboard strip)
- Anchor note labels at the bottom of falling notes: +10 px taller, text vertically centered, matching rounded bottom edge.
- Black-key sharps on two rows on falling notes and on the keyboard strip (e.g.
Fa+♯,C4+♯) so narrow keys are not truncated. - English (C–D–E): black keys on the full 88-key piano show the note + sharp row again (were blank in 1.2.0).
Header & window
- Pin chip in the header — toggle always on top (saved in settings).
- Header version label reads from the running
DebraMidiPlayer.exefile version (fixes stale v1.1.5 showing after a 1.2.x install). - Improved header contrast and layout (version/subtitle readability, pin control no longer clipped).
Playback fixes
- Library / playlist playback: removed double audio (game keys + built-in synth playing at the same time outside Practice). Practice preview sound still works when enabled in Practice settings.
Keyboard layout presets
- QWERTY / QWERTZ / AZERTY presets in Settings and the key layout editor.
- Apply a preset from the editor; layout is saved and restored on next launch.
Portable & updates (important fix)
- v1.2.0 GitHub ZIP was wrong: files were inside
release\portable\(and some installs got nestedAssets\Assets\). Extract did not overwrite in place. - v1.2.1 ZIP is flat:
DebraMidiPlayer.exe,Assets\, anddiscord-catalogue.jsonat the archive root. - How to update: close Debra → extract over your existing folder (overwrite files) → run
DebraMidiPlayer.exe. - Release scripts now verify exe version matches csproj and reject nested ZIP layouts before publish.
Install / update
- On v1.1.2+: use the header Update button (after Discord manifest points to 1.2.1), or download DebraMidiPlayer-1.2.1-portable.zip from GitHub.
- Close Debra. Extract over your portable folder — same level as your current
DebraMidiPlayer.exe, not into a new subfolder. - Run DebraMidiPlayer.exe. Header should show v1.2.1. Users on 1.2.0 (or older) will see the Update button once the manifest is published.
Debra MIDI Player v1.2.0
Debra Midi Player 1.2.0
Major release: Practice and Piano Academy — learn songs with falling notes, MIDI keyboard feedback, and a real piano sound engine.
Practice mode (new)
- Falling-notes piano roll with a live keyboard strip — Game 36-key layout or full 88-key piano view.
- Follow and Learn modes — play freely, or wait until you press the right note.
- Practice song library — import MIDI, search, drag-and-drop, folder refresh (path in Settings).
- Note labels on falling notes and keys: letter names (C/D/E), solfège (Do/Ré/Mi), or PC keyboard keys.
- Right / left hand colors on the toolbar for split-hand charts.
- Built-in preview sound while practicing (separate from keys sent to the game).
- Guided tour (? on the Practice toolbar) in all supported languages.
Piano Academy (Classes)
- Structured curriculum for real piano — first module BB bundled (exercises + beginner songs).
- Step-by-step lesson tours with keyboard highlights and hand diagrams.
- Learn mode on exercises — chart pauses until you play the correct notes.
- Finger numbers on falling notes during Academy lessons.
- Progress tracking — mark lessons complete (saved in settings).
- Discord curriculum sync — optional live manifest + lesson MIDI (same bot as the music catalogue).
MIDI keyboard
- Connect a MIDI keyboard or digital piano in Settings → Playback.
- Live input lights the practice keyboard and works in Learn mode and Academy.
Sound
- General MIDI piano preview (MeltySynth + GeneralUser GS soundfont) replaces the old basic synth for practice and Academy listen/preview.
Portable size
- Portable folder is larger (~126 MB) because the soundfont ships in
Assets\Sounds\.
Install / update
- On v1.1.2+: use the header Update button, or download DebraMidiPlayer-1.2.0-portable.zip.
- Close Debra, extract over your portable folder (
DebraMidiPlayer.exe,Assets,discord-catalogue.jsontogether). - Run DebraMidiPlayer.exe — header shows v1.2.0.
Debra MIDI Player v1.1.5
Debra Midi Player 1.1.5
Playback fix
- Chord playback restored — v1.1.4 could collapse multi-note chords to a single key when chord roll was 0 ms. Chords play fully again (SnowiyQ-style rapid taps).
- Overlapping-note cleanup — only removes a duplicate of the same MIDI note at the same instant (bad exports with double NoteOn). Different notes in a chord are kept.
Install / update
- On v1.1.2+: use the header Update button, or download DebraMidiPlayer-1.1.5-portable.zip.
- Close Debra, extract over your portable folder (
DebraMidiPlayer.exe,Assets,discord-catalogue.jsontogether). - Run DebraMidiPlayer.exe — header shows v1.1.5.
Debra MIDI Player v1.1.4
Debra Midi Player 1.1.4
Overlay & player bar
- See-through window (Fade) — under More on the player bar, adjust transparency (15–100%) so the whole window lets you see the game behind Debra while keys still play.
- More panel — note mapping, Fade slider, and quick timing tweaks (note / chord / modifier ms) without opening Settings.
- Opacity resets to 100% each time you launch the app.
Playback tuning
- Note mapping modes — choose how MIDI notes are translated for the game (Settings + More panel).
- MIDI track picker — when a file has several tracks, play just one part.
- Octave ± — shift the whole song up or down from the player bar.
- Advanced timing in Settings — note delay, chord roll, and modifier delay for stubborn timing issues.
- Cleaner chords — fewer duplicate / stacked notes when many keys hit at once.
Help & languages
- Guided tour updated (14 steps) for new player features; full help guide refreshed.
- Localization — tour, help, and player tooltips completed across all supported languages.
UI fix
- Maximized / fullscreen — sidebar menu shows all entries again, including Settings at the bottom.
Install / update
- On v1.1.2+: use the header Update button, or download DebraMidiPlayer-1.1.4-portable.zip.
- Close Debra, extract over your portable folder (
DebraMidiPlayer.exe,Assets,discord-catalogue.jsontogether). - Run DebraMidiPlayer.exe — header shows v1.1.4.
Debra MIDI Player v1.1.3
Debra Midi Player 1.1.3
Layout
- Resizable main columns — drag the grip between the library/catalogue panel and the playlist to widen either side; your ratio is saved across sessions.
- Splitter affordance — subtle ‹› arrows on the grip show that the bar is draggable (no extra width used).
Now playing titles
- Removed scrolling marquees on list rows, the player bar, and the Now Playing card — titles use ellipsis and tooltips instead (simpler and smoother).
- Now Playing card — song title sits below the artwork on up to three centered lines so more of the name is visible.
- Player bar — title can wrap on two lines next to the thumbnail.
Catalogue
- Language switch fix — changing UI language no longer leaves the catalogue empty when the style filter still showed an old translation (e.g. French “Tous les styles” while the UI was in Portuguese).
- Discord download reliability — TLS 1.2/1.3, IPv4-first connect, download retries, partial-file resume, and clearer SSL/network error messages when sync fails.
Per-song tempo
- Save (S) / Reset (R) buttons beside the tempo slider — save a custom tempo per song (remembered on load; does not edit the MIDI file).
- Localized tooltips in all supported languages.
Stability
- Catalogue row clicks — fixed a crash (
Run is not a Visual) when clicking song titles in the catalogue list.
Install / update
- On v1.1.2+: use the header Update button, or download DebraMidiPlayer-1.1.3-portable.zip.
- Close Debra, extract over your portable folder (
DebraMidiPlayer.exe,Assets,discord-catalogue.jsontogether). - Run DebraMidiPlayer.exe — header shows v1.1.3.
Debra Midi Player 1.1.2
Debra Midi Player 1.1.2
Keyboard templates
- Saved keybinds now persist across restarts — custom layouts and edits are no longer reset on launch.
- Last selected keyboard template is remembered and restored when you open the player.
Optional but recommended for those who use a custom keyboard template (not the default Debra 36 Keys layout).
Install / update
- On v1.1.1+: use the header Update button, or download DebraMidiPlayer-1.1.2-portable.zip.
- Close Debra, extract over your folder.
- Run DebraMidiPlayer.exe — header shows v1.1.2.
