Canto v0.10.2
Scoped Chat
Chat with this folder — Right-click a folder, a tag, or a linked workspace folder to start a chat that stays inside it, or add it to the chat you already have open. Subfolders are included.
Custom mixes — Combine folders, tags, projects, workspace folders, and specific notes in one scope, and exclude anything you don’t want in this conversation.
Drop a folder on the chat — Drag a folder onto the Canto Chat composer to scope the conversation to it.
Widen for this turn — Need the whole vault for one question? Widen once; the fence comes back on by itself, and that answer is marked as the exception.
Research stays inside the fence — Research Mode follows the same scope for vault notes, workspace files, and past chats.
Past chats and files — Choose whether this chat may search earlier conversations (Auto, Forced, Off, or only chats inside the scope), and whether it may read files attached to in-scope notes.
Save it as a preset — A favorite chat setup can remember its scope, so the next conversation starts already pointed at the right place.
You can see what was used — After an answer, the context receipt names the scope, how many notes it covered, and whether that turn was widened.
Local model
Qwen 3.8 27B replaces Qwen 3.6 27B. If you were using the older 27B model, Canto switches you over automatically.
Turbo is built in — turning on the faster engine no longer needs a second download.
Safer vault
Apple Notes refresh keeps a copy of your current version before applying an incoming change. If it can’t, that note is skipped instead of overwritten.
Sync does the same for changes arriving from another device.
Backups stay in their own lane — if two vaults share a backup folder, one no longer cleans up the other’s snapshots.
Program-like attachments open in Finder instead of running.
Scoped chats stay private from outside apps that read your chats through Canto.
Also in this release
Hide the scope banner in Settings → Chat if you’d rather keep the transcript clean. The scope still applies.
If a scope points at nothing (for example a folder you deleted), Canto says so instead of quietly searching the whole vault.
