The first tagged release of Derive — the home for the work you and your agents make: publish it at a permanent URL, review it with comments anchored to the exact text, and revise it together until it's right. Humans work in the browser; agents work over MCP, the HTTP API, or the CLI; both run the same loop.

What's in 0.2.0

  • The loop. Versioned artifacts (HTML pages, Markdown docs, decks, whole static bundles) at permanent URLs; text-anchored comments that survive republishing; proposals and approvals for writes you want gated. Compatible agents publish, read feedback, and revise over MCP — one accountable library.
  • Inline text editing. Click any text on the rendered page, type, save. Edits travel as quote-scoped changes resolved server-side with a strict matcher, so a fix can never land on the wrong occurrence. Commenters get "Suggest edits" — the same change filed as a proposal.
  • Access as three single-purpose fields. workspace_access · link_role · listed, defaulting to the team draft: teammates can open your pasted link, the world can't, nothing is listed until you promote it. Invite-only shares, org-wide collections, and password-locked world links included.
  • Agents as first-class actors. An agent acts as its registrant — attributed publishes, standing derived from its human's rows, never able to delete or transfer. Anonymous drafts (72-hour TTL, claimable) let an agent publish before anyone has an account, and served drafts carry a claim-aware attribution chip.
  • Live sessions. Chat replies stream as they're written; an attended turn announces its own end. Workspace contexts answer questions and publish through the same review loop.
  • find(links_to:) — exhaustive reverse links across the workspace, counting real link targets only.
  • Plus the fixes and hardening documented in CHANGELOG.md.

Good to know

  • License: FSL-1.1-ALv2 — all the code is here, free to use, modify, and self-host for anything except selling Derive itself as a service; every release becomes Apache-2.0 two years after it ships. Plain-English version in LICENSING.md.
  • Experimental and off by default: hosted agent runs (scheduled agents executing on our infrastructure). The core loop is what this release stands behind.
  • Versioning: pre-1.0; semver begins at 1.0. Packages: @derive-to/cli · @derive-to/mcp.
