API Platform 5, with the LTS line kept

API Platform 5.0 shipped on 2026-09-17. The library now targets it and keeps
the versions Symfony LTS users run:

API Platform Symfony Role
5.0 7.4 LTS / 8.x target: examples are written for it
4.4 7.4 LTS / 8.x 4 to 5 bridge, deltas flagged inline
4.3 6.4 LTS / 7.x / 8.x last release supporting Symfony 6.4 LTS
3.4 6.4 / 7.1+ legacy, existing notes kept
  • Every API Platform reference opens with this compatibility note.
  • filters: #[ApiFilter], the SearchFilter family and AbstractFilter
are deprecated since 4.4; migration table, api:upgrade-filter, and the
version each filter class appeared in.
  • dto-resources: ObjectMapperProcessor is removed in 5.0; the Object
Mapper needs Symfony 7.3+, so Symfony 6.4 LTS keeps manual mapping.
  • tests: ApiTestCase moved to api-platform/test in 5.0
(ApiPlatform\Test), alwaysBootKernel defaults to false, and type errors
on constrained properties return 422 instead of 400.
  • resources: version matrix, ~4.3.0 pinning for Symfony 6.4 LTS, and the
Query operation, throwOnNotFound, routePriority, %param% and
    OpenAPI 3.2 additions.
  • The api-platform-builder and symfony-reviewer agents check the installed
version before using or flagging an API.

Fixed

  • api-platform-security: the JWT setup names
lexik/jwt-authentication-bundle and adds the json_login firewall that
    issues the token.
  • api-platform-dto-resources: read_data is documented as 4.0+ (absent
in 3.4) and only set when the operation reads.
  • doctrine-migrations: targets bundle 4.0 with library 3.9 (the library
4.0 branch is unreleased), and the install no longer pins the bundle to
    ^3.0.
  • doctrine-fetch-modes: the duplicated batch section points to
    doctrine-batch-processing.
