MKV Muxing Batch GUI 2.9.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Aug 09:11

Added

  • Add an enabled-by-default output guard that verifies every completed remux
contains at least one audio track before accepting it or replacing a source.
  • Add M2TS to the selectable video input extensions.
  • Add regression coverage for Windows UNC source and destination paths.

Changed

  • Allow multiple audio and subtitle tracks to be marked Default and Forced in
both the main track editors and queued jobs.
  • Pass MKVToolNix executable, probe, and response-file arguments directly to
the process API so spaces, quotes, ampersands, and network paths remain
literal rather than being interpreted by a shell.

Fixed

  • Keep valid dropped videos when another selected file is not recognized as a
video instead of clearing the complete selection.
  • Report failed media probes per file and always close the loading dialog.
  • Use portable temporary overwrite filenames without trailing spaces.
  • Calculate CRC from the exact completed output path, report CRC failures, and
avoid renaming partial outputs after a failed job.
  • Finish failed queue jobs even when MKVToolNix exits without writing the log
marker previously expected by the progress reader.
  • Initialize all fields on existing-track data objects and avoid sharing a Qt
table instance through a mutable constructor default.

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Aug 22:21

Added

  • Add a persistent main-window status toolbar showing the detected MKVToolNix
version, missing-tool details, download progress, dependency updates, and a
    manual application/dependency update check.
  • Add a user-local MKVToolNix installer that resolves the publisher's latest
stable version, verifies its platform metadata, validates both downloaded
command-line tools, and activates them without administrator privileges.

Fixed

  • Make the missing-dependency prompt start a visible in-app download instead of
silently delegating to a browser that may not open.
  • Extract the Linux AppImage once and run its real command-line tools with the
included libraries, avoiding FUSE requirements and polluted version output.

Added

  • Add automatic background and manual update checks for stable application and
MKVToolNix releases, with actionable notifications for outdated versions.
  • Add a reproducible Windows dependency fetcher that downloads MKVToolNix 101.0
from the publisher, requires the live and repository-pinned SHA-256 values to
agree, and extracts only the two required tools and license notices.
  • Add a repository binary-policy regression test and a documented payload audit.
  • Add a GitHub Actions workflow that tests and builds Windows and Linux release
packages, validates the packaged applications, and publishes verified assets
with a combined SHA-256 manifest from stable version tags.

Changed

  • Missing MKVToolNix tools no longer prevent the application from opening. The
startup warning can open the official download page, retry tool discovery,
or let the user continue without muxing support.
  • Windows release builds stage verified MKVToolNix tools outside the source tree;
Linux and source builds continue to prefer a current system installation.
  • Limit comtypes installation to Windows and use source-defined taskbar COM
interfaces without a precompiled type library.

Removed

  • Remove all committed MKVToolNix executables, the obsolete TaskbarLib.tlb,
and the redundant Prepare Exe.rar release-preparation archive.

MKV Muxing Batch GUI 2.7.2

This maintenance release focuses on correctness and source-file safety while
bringing the abandoned original project onto the maintained 2.7.x codebase.

Highlights

  • Failed MKVToolNix processes can no longer be reported as successful.
  • Source replacement validates a non-empty completed output and publishes it
atomically before the original file is removed.
  • CRC renaming now follows the actual completed output path.
  • Large queue cleanup no longer double-frees items or stalls UI updates.
  • Discard Old Chapters and Discard Old Attachments work independently.
  • Fast Mux state no longer leaks into later queue items.
  • Current system MKVToolNix tools are preferred over stale bundled copies.
  • Runtime/build dependencies are updated and pinned: PySide6 6.11.2,
    psutil 7.2.2, comtypes 1.4.16, and PyInstaller 6.22.2.

See CHANGELOG.md
for the complete list, and

The attached x86-64 Linux one-folder archive was built and smoke-tested on
Linux. Install your distribution's mkvtoolnix and libxcb-cursor0 packages
before running it. Verify it with the attached SHA256SUMS.txt.

GitHub also supplies source archives automatically. Windows packaging metadata
and scripts are versioned for 2.7.2, but Windows binaries are not attached to
this release because they could not be built and validated on a Windows host.
