Route diagram color option and improvements

I've only ever used the RouteDiagram to show my hikers and bikers something pretty and to convince them that the planned route is feasible. I haven't missed anything.

Two weeks ago, I was riding gravel roads (including parts of the TET) in the Algarve. As some of the rented bikes only had road tires, we had to avoid particularly steep uphill and downhill sections. In order to recognize these in good time, I activated the route diagram in the motorcycle profile for the first time.

This has already helped us in the current version. But some ideas (neither wishes nor suggestions!) have emerged:

• The RouteDiagram is hidden when “off route” - right! But this should also be the case with “destination reached” and in subsequent FollowMode.

• The Y-axis (vertical extension) can perhaps be dynamized instead of being aligned with the maximum height of the route.

This is okay because the peek is at ~800m in the display. Here the max hight in the display is ~250 m - so it could be adjusted.

• With a click on the route diagram I can display the position on the map (cross)

But maybe the other way around too? A short click on the route is recognized and the route information is displayed. Perhaps then, if the route diagram is activated, the position indicator there can also be set correctly.

As I said: just ideas ...

The RouteDiagram is hidden when “off route” - right! But this should also be the case with “destination reached” and in subsequent FollowMode.

Inside navigation the route diagram is controlled with the setting in "Navigation | Panels".

Outside navigation, like when we browse the map or in follow location mode,
the route diagram is controlled with the setting in "Routing | Route diagram".

The Y-axis (vertical extension) can perhaps be dynamized instead of being aligned with the maximum height of the route.

This is indeed the initial route diagram appearance.

Inside navigation we can zoom in / out the route diagram:

• Tap on the right side of diagram to zoom in
  Tap on the left side of diagram to zoom out

• Or use pinch gesture on diagram to zoom in / out

Outside navigation, the zoom in / out can be done with pinch gesture (like zoom the map).

The zoom is currently performed on the x axis. Perhaps we could improve it with the y axis too.

A short click on the route is recognized and the route information is displayed. Perhaps then, if the route diagram is activated, the position indicator there can also be set correctly.

I will see what is possible here too. 🙂

Do you mean we should change this in follow location mode?

I think it is meant that the route diagram should be hidden as soon as one reached the destination of the planned route.
I.e. in "navigation mode", when we drive further after the destination and so implicitly switch to "follow mode" (Settings > Navigation > Advanced > "After arrival at destination, follow user location")...

For my opinion: yes

In follow location mode you can only display the driven route - so it's just a recording. Maybe interisting for some users?

Follow location centers the map on the GPS location. Map may display a route or many tracks.
In follow mode the GPS location is free and does not progress on the route (like in navigation).

So in follow mode, a useful diagram is like the one of browse map that does not show progress.
(now it is on / off based on the option in routing settings)

It works well, displaying the distance and elevation on the diagram of the tapped route point.

What about the route info message that appears when we tap the route?
This can be annoying when we constantly tap the route to see its details on the diagram.

Perhaps you did not understand (?) the initial suggestion or the question.

The route diagram is optional, it appears only if we enable it in settings.
The new function is that if we tap somewhere on the route, the diagram highlights the distance / elevation at that point.
It does not occupy space as shown in the above image.

The question is what we should do with the info message that appears at the bottom of screen when we tap the route.
Do we need it? (demonstrated above in image 1)
Because if we keep tapping the route at various points, these info messages are queued and displayed for a period of time.

Note that latest Androids added new restrictions to these info messages at the bottom of screen.
They now only allow 2 lines of text and the text must be very short.

The question is what we should do with the info message that appears at the bottom of screen when we tap the route.
Do we need it?

As it shows the overall ascend/descend and the whole route length, and not just the info of a certain (tapped) point, I would keep the message as it is. But I understand that it might be annoying when tapping from one point to another - on the other hand if I do this, my focus is on the values in the diagram then, so maybe the small modal does not annoy at all!??

@DolomitesTom: in the Cruiser settings there is a really helpful search function (magnifying glass symbol in the top right).

If you enter a search term there - e.g. “route diagram” - all settings options dealing with the topic are listed and can be called up directly.

This has helped me several times in such situations...

know and has used this, thx. It was a problem of the used route which maybe had not enough elevation. Strange thing is that the same route on another device displayed the diagram.

Now, if a chart is displayed, we can't quickly check the parameters of the entire route. Maybe add this data as an X-axis caption? If the chart is not active, tapping the route shows these parameters, which is OK.

Something like this:

I don't know if changing the scale of the axis, i.e. changing from the whole to a section of the route, should be included in this caption. Maybe it would be an interesting possibility to check the parameters of a section of the route?

Route diagram will have a new interface in the next Cruiser:

• Route diagram will display the route details below the diagram.

• Tap the route or the diagram and the full details of the route point appear on the diagram.
  (distance / time to start / destination and elevation)

• Full details will also appear on the large diagrams of routes and tracks when tap the diagram.
