High contrast option in map appearance

High contrast option in map appearance will be available in the next version.

Also the separate dark map theme will be removed and instead Cruiser will apply a dark color filter in navigation.
Advantage: this can work with all map themes.

And @MotoUKRider will have one less map theme to maintain. 🙂

Before updating V4 to V5, is it actually advisable to uninstall everything that is V4 and then completely reinstall V5? Personally, I would do this on instinct in order to have a clean database.

Ist es eigentlich vor dem Update V4 auf V5, zu empfehlen, alles was V4 ist zu deinstallieren und dann V5 komplett neu zu installieren? Würde ich persönlich, aus dem.Bauch heraus, so machen um eine saubere Datenbank zu haben.

This is not necessary. Old app versions are updated to the new versions.

How to enable that filter? I am trying new beta with VTM engine, having App style dark, works for menu but I cant find any filter settings for the map. Both themes are light..

Unfortunatelly, "automatic" dark mode is too "whitish" for me, I would love to have it more like it was before... Dark, less contrast, subtle less bright color tones, totally avoiding colors near upper scale white.. I think it will be more difficult to fullfill both dark/light theme purposes 100%; as they are linked now so fix for one theme could break "determined" other? I mean what works for one side could not worked that well for other, but cannot be customized only on side where the "issue" is..

The case is, if I wouldnt notice this in github discussion mentioned before, I wouldnt even know, that there is still option to use Dark mode... I mean, usually, I expect all options listed in the Options (general in any apps), and if there is not some functionality, I wouldnt try to find it within frontend UI only (which I consider as subset of options, related to the functionality of specific app screen(s)).. I mean long click for some icon could be considered as Advanced users stuff, regular basic user I guess would expect this under Themes menu (as it was before, dark/light), or in the option menu mentioned above, especially when seeing there Contrast option, which would follow in the same category in my eyes... When I didnt see dark filter option there, I thought if it was even implemented yet or not, and check discussion on github again via search :)

Understand.. But still my opinion is above.. Maybe I even didnt know about it before (because using Dark theme already, and app Dark switch in menu), until it was mentioned in recent beta discussion and I catch it "by coincidence".. And I was especially surprised, when beta show me light theme, and Dark theme dissapear from usual place.. First I browse all menu options, find only contrast filter and then been puzzled..

I will appretiate a further polishing Dark to be more Dark.. To be honest all my usecases in car/motorcycle through all navi apps I am using contains dark theme set all the time, because battery savings/night drives (and eventually I found its pretty working for daylight as well, after getting use to it).

Of course is just my opinion, but I tried quite a few navi apps till now, and usually Dark standard looks similiar as pictures above.. White is killer, so its very challenging to balance everything with darkish tones. As I see it, usually it wins little bit less "distinctive" look comparing with light modes, to gain less lumens and save eyes on night.

I am sorry for offtopic, feel free to move (if thats possible?) specific posts to the #126 (comment), as I dont want react to your post here and write answer there..

If there is interest, I can continue with a dedicated "Dark" theme - Here is another example (similar to those above) of what I prefer for a nightly ride - this is using a 2nd App Profile to switch the Panel colours, too:

My own personal preference for a night-theme is one that strips-out all of the sexy land features and simply offers the road layout (and optional Layers/POIs) for basic navigation - ideally switching to a "daylight" map, with features, in "Browse" mode. At present, Cruiser cannot do that "automagically", so we have to get creative with the style/theme config!

It can do it, we just need to improve it. 🙂

Dark filter currently works like the old days: make everything dark except the lines like the road network.

@MotoUKRider I have similiar feels of dark themes.. When I started to use them, I miss details from light theme quite a lot, but eventually I get used to it, and I understand. When you dont have 1/3 of color pallete (bright), its nearly impossible to have all details from light themes, where you are not restricted. On night ride, there is also less point to see green/rivers etc that much, because you didnt see often such nature elements around you anyway.. I am using dark mode on day as well, so there is a mixed feelings in my case :), but considering all other app night designs follows that pattern, I believe its a working approach.

For me, I really dont mind if Dark mode is achieved by Filter, theme, or both. I just would like to have final result not so whitish and be more like dark modes from other apps (when speaking about current auto filter, I think motorides dark is finelly darked, at least in past. Can comment specific details when comes to different render engines (its a bit more time demanding to study/compare differences), as I just always switch Dark if possible, whenever engine Cruiser using, and at this point I forgot details from <v5 version due to using v5 version quite a time with his Dark :))..

I really understand hard work behind both approaches, its not easy at all have balanced theme. If @MotoUKRider are willing to spent some of his time in Dark theme still, I will appretiate this a lot (due to my -quick and brief - opinion that current Dark filter isnt that polished as his previous Dark theme), on the other hand, if @devemux86 would try to improve Dark filter (with restrictions comes from "hard" linkage to the light theme) It would be appretiated as well and I would try to find improvements / suggestion/ bugs in this approach to support this idea as well..

I'm here with @JimmyS83: the currently implemented "dark mode switch" is also a little "not dark enough"/too greyish for me...

@JimmyS83 @bios4 Thanks for the comments - what I will do, is when the first theme revision ZIP is posted in the dedicated thread, I will include the well-known "Dark" version plus the "Indigo" one I previewed above - they will be identical in terms of behaviour, just coloured differently.

We can take it from there which you prefer: The normal coloured-down version (with some road colour) or something a bit different with the focus on simplicity rather than worrying about which shade of dark-greens work best with "farmland" and "forest" areas 😄

They can also serve as starting-points for a custom/private theme if you want to "have a go" 🎨 📝
