@deveshrai deveshrai released this 21 Oct 09:55

A privacy release.

Changed

  • Foldman's settings stay on your phone. They include your Apple Music sign-in token, and they're now excluded from Android's cloud backups and from phone-to-phone transfer. On a new phone, just sign in to Apple Music again.

0.1.0 and 0.1.1 allowed Android's backup, so their settings could be in a backup made before you updated. Signing out in Foldman removes the token from the phone; you can delete an older backup in your phone's Google backup settings. See PRIVACY.md.

Install

Download Foldman-0.1.2-release.apk below. It installs over earlier versions and keeps your sign-in and settings.

A bug-fix release for Apple Music.

Fixed

  • The deck showed the next song instead of the one playing. Tap a song and the title, artist and cassette label showed the following track, while the timer showed the right one. MusicKit lists only the upcoming songs in its queue, and Foldman was misreading it. The labels now come from the song that's actually playing, and Up next and the queue start from it.
  • "Track 0 of N" now shows the right position and count, including songs already played.
  • Playlists always play in order. Foldman now tells Apple's player to play playlists unshuffled, instead of relying on its default.

Install

Download Foldman-0.1.1-release.apk below. It installs over 0.1 and keeps your sign-in and settings (same signing key).

Foldman 0.1: the first tape

@deveshrai deveshrai released this 21 Oct 08:49

Foldman's reels playing, winding and stopping

The first tape. Foldman turns a folding phone into a cassette player: an upright portable on the cover screen, a deck when you unfold it.

What's in 0.1

  • Three postures. Cover screen: an edge-to-edge blue portable with a silver key strip. Unfolded: a deck between a library panel and a now-playing panel. Half-open on a table: the deck on top, the library below.
  • A mechanism, not a skin. Latching PLAY / PAUSE / STOP·EJECT / FF / REW keys. Reels turn at tape speed ÷ radius and coast to a stop. A mechanical counter, VU needles, an OPERATE LED, synthesised key clicks and haptics.
  • Local folders. MP3, FLAC, M4A, OGG, WAV and more, with embedded or folder cover art, background playback and media controls.
  • Apple Music. Sign in with MusicKit, browse your playlists, and stream in-app. The player runs in its own process, and if it crashes the song picks up again where it left off.
  • YT Music. Driven through its media session, with artwork, queue and transport.

Install

Download Foldman-0.1.0-release.apk below and open it on your phone (Android 11+, 64-bit ARM). For YT Music, grant notification access when Foldman asks; if the switch is greyed out, go to App info → ⋮ → Allow restricted settings first. Apple Music needs the Apple Music app, signed in with a subscription.
