🧩 Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime 8

GyroDrive PC Server is built using Microsoft .NET 8 Windows Desktop.

The required runtime is automatically checked during installation.

If it is not already installed on your PC, the installer will prompt you to install it before GyroDrive can start.

Required Runtime

Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime 8 (x64)

Without this runtime, GyroDrive PC Server cannot launch.

Automatic Installation

During installation GyroDrive will:

Detect whether the required .NET Desktop Runtime is installed.
Prompt you to install it if it is missing.
Continue setup after the runtime installation is completed.

Administrator permission may be required.

Manual Installation (if required)

If automatic installation does not occur, download the official Microsoft runtime:

Install:

Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime 8 (x64)

After installation, restart GyroDrive PC Server.

🎮 Virtual Controller Driver (ViGEmBus)

GyroDrive PC Server currently uses the ViGEmBus Driver to create a virtual Xbox controller recognized by Windows and supported PC games.

Why is this driver required?

Windows games cannot directly interpret motion sensor data transmitted from an Android device.

The ViGEmBus Driver creates a virtual Xbox controller, allowing supported games to receive steering input exactly as if a physical controller were connected.

Without a compatible virtual controller driver, games will not recognize GyroDrive as an input device.

Project Status

Please note that ViGEmBus is an archived (End-of-Life) open-source project. Although it continues to function correctly on supported versions of Windows, it is no longer actively maintained by its original developers.

GyroDrive currently supports ViGEmBus because it remains stable and compatible with many existing PC games and controller frameworks.

Future versions of GyroDrive may migrate to a newer virtual controller solution if appropriate alternatives become available.

Installation

If ViGEmBus is not already installed, GyroDrive PC Server will automatically prompt you to install it.

Administrator permission may be required.

📥 Installation Guide

Step 1

Download the latest GyroDrive PC Server installer from the official GitHub Releases page.

Step 2

Run:

GyroDriveReceiverSetup.exe

Step 3

If Windows Defender SmartScreen displays:

Run anyway

This warning may appear because GyroDrive is a newly published application and has not yet established Microsoft SmartScreen reputation.

The installer is safe when downloaded from the official GitHub Releases page.

Step 4

The installer will automatically check for:

Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime 8 (x64)
ViGEmBus Driver

If either component is missing, you will be prompted to install it.

Administrator permission may be required.

Complete the installation.

Step 5

Launch GyroDrive PC Server.

Step 6

Click Start Receiver.

The application will display:

Local IP Address
Port Number
QR Code (if enabled)

Step 7

Open the GyroDrive Android application.

Connect using either:

📷 Scan the displayed QR Code
🌐 Enter the IP Address and Port manually

Tap Connect.

Step 8

Launch your favorite supported racing game.

Your Android device is now ready to function as a virtual steering wheel.

🔧 Troubleshooting

Application does not start

Verify that Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime 8 (x64) is installed.
Restart your PC after installing the runtime.
Run GyroDrive again.
Ensure Windows is fully updated.

Unable to connect

Ensure both devices are connected to the same local Wi-Fi network.
Disable any active VPN connection.
Allow GyroDrive through Windows Defender Firewall.
Verify the displayed IP Address and Port.
Restart both the Android app and the PC Server.

Controller is not detected by the game

Verify that the ViGEmBus Driver is installed successfully.
Restart the PC Server.
Restart the game.
Click Start Receiver before connecting the Android application.

Steering feels inaccurate

Recalibrate the steering.
Hold the phone level during calibration.
Adjust Steering Sensitivity.
Adjust Dead Zone settings.

No vibration feedback

Ensure vibration is enabled in the Android application.
Verify that your phone supports vibration.
Confirm that the PC Server is connected.

High latency

Use a stable Wi-Fi connection.
Close unnecessary background applications.
Connect both devices to the same wireless router.
Avoid heavily congested wireless networks.

🔒 Privacy

Your privacy is important to us.

GyroDrive PC Server:

Does not require user registration.
Does not collect personal information.
Does not upload steering or motion sensor data.
Does not communicate with cloud servers during gameplay.
Processes all controller data locally between your Android device and your Windows PC.

Advertising and analytics (if applicable) are handled exclusively within the Android application.
