Lunar New Year Season

Lunar New Year is a special holiday season in Just Natural Expansion, celebrating the traditional Chinese New Year with floating lanterns, zodiac blessings, and all the festive prosperity that makes this holiday so special across the world. During this season, glowing lanterns rise across the screen, each carrying cookies(and good fortune). The year is governed by one of twelve zodiac animals, each bestowing unique blessings upon your bakery.

Lunar New Year can be triggered manually by purchasing the Lunar biscuit upgrade (With Season Switcher purchased), or it occurs automatically during the real-world Lunar New Year period in January or February (depending on the lunar cycle).

Lanterns

Lanterns are one of the core features of Lunar New Year. These glowing red lanterns float upward from the bottom of the screen, swaying gently as they rise, think of them like vertical reindeer during the Christmas Season. Click them before they fade away to collect some cookies for your quickness. Lantern spawning will play a meditation bell sound if you have a sound for golden cookies selected in the Cookie Sound Selector (vanilla heavenly upgrade).

Lanterns spawn every few minutes, and their timing can be affected by zodiac effects, potions, and even Selebrak the Spirit of Festivities. Clicking a lantern grants cookies equal to 1 minute of CpS (minimum 168 cookies). There are three different lantern designs to discover.

Zodiacs

Each Lunar New Year season is ruled by one of twelve zodiac animals. The zodiac is determined randomly when the season begins and remains constant for that season’s duration. Each animal/year provides a unique buff effect that applies over the course of the season.

The zodiac year is randomly selected based on the number of times seasons have been changed as well as your game seed, meaning it cannot be changed with savescumming. The zodiac year will remain in effect for the entire length of the holiday. Restarting the season will randomly select a new zodiac.

Dragon	Golden Cookies have a small chance to award a Dragon Flight
Snake	Wrinklers' appetite is 5% greater
Horse	Golden Cookies have a small chance to award a Dragon Harvest
Sheep	Lanterns move 50% slower
Monkey	Lanterns move 20% slower, are 20% more valuable, and appear 20% more often
Rooster	Lanterns are 50% more valuable
Dog	Lanterns appear 50% more often
Pig	Golden Cookies appear 7% more often

Activation

Lunar New Year activates automatically during the real world Lunar New Year period. The game calculates the approximate date using the Metonic cycle, which means it will not always be accurate to the day but will generally be close.

• Season window - 3 days before and 3 days after the calculated Lunar New Year date

• Valentine’s handling - If the Lunar New Year window overlaps with Cookie Clickers Valentine’s Season (February 10-15), the season window shifts to avoid conflict and Valentines day will begin and end as expected.

Automatic activation can be disabled by turning off the Extra Seasons mod setting. When activated the season can be switched using the Season Switcher assuming you own the upgrade.

Lunar New Year Achievements

Lunar New Year introduces 3 new achievements. These achievements respect the overall mod setting of Shadow or Normal achievements.

Mini Game Interactions

Two potions from Potions Class have been updated to also effect lanterns

• Decoction of Winter - Increases Reindeer and lantern spawn rate by 25% (or decreases by 100% if misbrewed)

• Whisper of Boreas - Increases Reindeer and lantern rewards by 20% (or decreases by 50% if misbrewed)

Switching to the Lunar New Year season has also been added to Terminal Minigame

Selebrak, Spirit of Festivities

When Selebrak is slotted, he boosts Lunar New Year effects as well as lantern spawn times.
