Gary 0.12.0-alpha
A big Le Mans Ultimate release: Gary now tracks your regen and deploy, says which click to make
when the battery drains or builds, and learns what works at each track. Plus damage detail,
"where is" answers, better spotting, and a batch of LMU fixes.
New
- Battery calls say which click to make (LMU Hypercars). When the battery is draining, Gary now
says "take regen up a click, to 153 kilowatts" - or, once regen is maxed, "take deploy down a
click". When it's building, deploy up, then regen down. He knows where both settings are and how
far each can go, so he never suggests a click past the end. Faster changes get two clicks. - Gary follows your regen setting (LMU). LMU doesn't publish the regen setting while you drive,
so Gary watches the buttons and keys LMU has bound to regen up and down (read from LMU's own
control settings - wheel, button box, keyboard or a Stream Deck hotkey all work) and counts your
presses. Every lap he cross-checks the count against how hard the battery charged, and corrects
himself if a press was missed. On the keyboard he watches only those two keys; nothing else you
type is looked at or kept. - Gary learns your battery settings per car and track (LMU). Every lap on one deploy and regen
combination is remembered. After a few laps, the battery calls use that history to say how many
clicks will do it, and a new session at that track can open with "from your laps here, deploy 40
with regen 170 held the battery about level". In a race he aims to finish with about 15 percent. - Every Hypercar's deploy and regen power is built in (LMU). All LMH hybrids run off to 200 kW
in 20 kW steps; every LMDh runs deploy off to 50 kW and regen off to 170 kW. - "How's my fuel ratio" (LMU). Gary tells you what's set, what you're actually using, and what
to set at the next stop. - Live Virtual Energy (LMU). Read straight from LMU while you drive, so fuel calls follow
energy when energy is what runs out first - and Gary warns you if fuel will run out before energy. - "Where is" questions (LMU). "Where's P1 in Hypercar", "where's the nearest hypercar", and
questions by surname or first name - "where's Estre" - now work in LMU. Surnames work in iRacing
too. - Damage detail (LMU). Punctures and lost wheels by corner, dents by area of the car (front,
rear, left, right and the four corners), and suspension damage. - Your stop vs LMU's estimate (LMU). Practice pit stops are now measured too, and the log shows
LMU's own estimate beside the real service time.
Fixes
- Missed spotter calls on the left (LMU). A car alongside on your left 4 to 5 metres away -
a GT3 you're lapping in the next lane, or a car running beside you into a braking zone - wasn't
called. The alongside window is wider now. Cars alongside right at the start/finish line are
called too. - "Yellow flag in every sector" on leaving the garage (LMU), and real yellows going uncalled.
Gary was reading LMU's "sector clear" value as a yellow. Fixed both ways. - Laps with a moment off track counted as invalid (LMU). LMU marks a lap for a second or two
when you go off and then counts it anyway; Gary now goes by the lap's state at the line. - Garage pull-outs counted as pit-lane time (LMU), which made the "where do I come out" estimate
far too long before your first real stop. So did a reset after a spin, which drops you in your
pit box. - LMU's "Realistic" tyre wear and fuel usage are now read as 1x.
Under the hood
- LMU tyre-wear stints are shared (if you share tyre-wear data). Each LMU stint - tyre wear per
corner, compounds, laps, fuel, conditions, damage and lockups during the stint - goes to its own
LMU table, separate from iRacing's. Same setting, same rules: nothing that identifies you. - Lockups are logged (LMU), per wheel, braking zone by braking zone - groundwork for future
calls. Gary doesn't say anything about them yet.
Updating
Automatic - check on launch, apply on next start, or use the update banner. Title bar should read
0.12.0-alpha.
Known rough edges
- Gary speaks and understands English only.
- The battery learning starts empty - it needs a few laps on a combination at a car and track
before it changes anything Gary says. - Regen tracking needs your regen buttons bound in LMU itself. If regen is on a controller Gary
can't tell apart from another with the same name, or changed some other way, Gary falls back to
the regen you left the garage with. - Several of the LMU additions above have only had a few laps of testing. If something sounds
wrong, send a log. - Fuel to the end in a timed race keeps a lap in hand by default (the auto fuel margin setting,
or say "fuel margin half a lap" for one stop). How many laps you actually run depends on where
the leader is when the clock runs out, which can add a lap Gary can't see coming - the margin is
what covers it. - A restart from Settings mid-race starts Gary's fuel average for the session again, the same as
reopening Gary.
Gary 0.11.18-alpha
Gary now says where a stopped car is, plus five new iRacing track maps.
New
- Where the wreck is (iRacing). When a rival ahead of you stops on track, Gary now says
where: "Looks like Max Driver has stopped on track at Turn 3." On a straight it's "on the
Kemmel Straight", and between corners it's "near Eau Rouge". It follows your turn names or
numbers setting. On a track without a map, the call is the same as before. - New track maps (iRacing): Barber Motorsports Park (Full Course), Kansas (Oval), Mosport,
Le Mans (No Chicanes) and Oulton Park (International). Gary can name corners at these tracks
now, for the wreck call, "where is" answers and anything else that says a corner.
Fixes
- Turn numbers on lettered corners. Some tracks officially number a few corners as 2a and 2b,
or 5a, 5b and 5c. Gary used to count each of those as its own turn, so every turn number after
them came out too high. Gary now says "Turn 5b" and keeps the turns after on their real numbers.
Mosport is the first map that uses this.

Known rough edges
- Gary speaks and understands English only.
- The wreck location is iRacing only for now.
- Repair stops and the post-flag clock haven't been through a long real repair or an official
race end yet. If they get something wrong, send a log.
Gary 0.11.17-alpha
Two fixes for sector times on iRacing.
Fixes
- Every sector, not just the first three (iRacing). Most iRacing tracks have more than three
sectors, but Gary only timed the first three and lumped the rest of the lap into "sector 3". So
on a four-sector track, "sector 3" was really sectors 3 and 4 added together. Gary now times
every sector the track has. That covers the "sector times" answer, live sector calls, and
the "where you gained or lost time" part of the lap time call. - Sector times you can make out. Asking "sector times" used to run each sector number into
its time ("sector two twenty-one point one"). There's now a pause between each one: "Sector 2,
21.1."

Gary 0.11.16-alpha
A small behind-the-scenes release: better data for future tyre-wear and strategy calls. Nothing
changes in what Gary says.
Under the hood
- More detail in shared tyre-wear stints (iRacing). If you share tyre-wear data, each stint now
also records how the stint was driven: how much of it was flat out, how much on the brakes,
whether the cornering load was mostly left or right, and how much time was spent in slow, medium
and fast corners. These are whole-stint totals - no lap trace or position data leaves your PC.
This is what will let Gary estimate tyre wear on a track nobody has shared data for yet. - Track details shared once per track (iRacing). With tyre-wear sharing on, the first time
Gary sees a track layout it sends iRacing's own description of it - track type, length, number of
turns and altitude. It's the same for every driver and says nothing about you or how you drove.

Gary 0.11.15-alpha
A fix for Gary freezing when your wheel stops responding.
Fixes
- No more freezing with a push-to-talk button on a wheel. If the wheel or button box your
push-to-talk button is on stopped responding (which some wheels do when a sim starts and takes
them over), Gary's whole window could freeze for up to a minute, and the crew chief went quiet
with it. Gary now reads the button in the background. If the wheel stops responding, only the
button stops working until it comes back.

Gary 0.11.14-alpha
A bit of race banter, help through long repair stops, and a batch of fixes from a real race.
New
- Race banter. Every so often during a race the crew chief says something that isn't about
the car: a battle that's gone on for laps, a rival who's binned it, a run of clean laps, the
last few to go. It's never more than one line every few minutes, and never in the first lap.
After you cross the line he gives his take on the race: how it went against where your rating
(iRacing) or grid slot (Le Mans Ultimate) said you'd finish, then the story of the race. With
Let the crew chief swear on, some of it is a lot less polite. - Long repair stops (iRacing). When you stop with damage, he tells you the required and
optional repair time. Then he counts it down: every 2 minutes, then every minute, then 30, 10 and
5 seconds. On a long wait he tells you to grab a drink and calls you back to the seat at a
minute, with a chirp at 30 seconds. When the required work is done he says whether to go now or
stay for the optionals, if the answer is obvious. He also tells you where you'll rejoin: your
class position, how many laps down, and whether the pit exit will be busy. Ask "how long on
repairs" any time. - After the flag (iRacing). In iRacing, laps you drive after the chequered still count for
safety rating until the session clock runs out. Gary now tells you how long is left on that
clock, and when it runs out he says the session's done and you can head in.
Fixes
- No grid fuel warning on the last lap. After a pit stop, the chequered flag could set off
the "you're not full, fill it before the start" check meant for the grid. It now stays quiet
once the race has gone green. - Fuel save offers only when they help. Gary no longer offers to "drop a stop" when the only
thing you're short of is your fuel margin. He also doesn't offer with fewer than 4 laps to go.
"Let's save fuel" still works any time. - Blue flags name the right car. A blue flag could name the car you were racing ("GT3 car
behind you" in a GT3) instead of the one lapping you. It now names only a car that's lapping you
or from a faster class, and gives the plain call when it can't tell. Le Mans Ultimate gets the
same rule. - Interrupted calls aren't repeated. When an urgent call cuts the crew chief off, the line he
was saying used to come back in full afterwards, even if you'd heard most of it. Now it only
comes back if you heard less than half. Calls about that moment on track (traffic, blue flags,
corner-by-corner pace against the car behind) never come back. - One last-lap call. The white flag and the laps-remaining count both used to say "last lap".
Now you hear it once. - Rival pit stops. "Has rejoined" is now said once the rival is back on track, not when they
leave their box. A rival who comes out right next to you is "right with you" instead of
"0.0 behind you". - The race result waits for you. "Great drive, brought it home P7" was said when the leader
finished, even if you still had half a lap to go. It now waits until you cross the line. - No phantom teammate (iRacing). At a session change, Gary could briefly think a teammate had
taken over in a solo event, which reset his calls about your stint. He now only looks for
teammates in team events. - Hotlapping (iRacing). A short stall in Gary could be mistaken for an Active Reset, which
threw away a clean lap and switched off race calls for the rest of the session.

Gary 0.11.13-alpha
Gary tells you when there's an update, even if he's been running for days.
New
- Update banner. Gary now checks for a new version every 2 hours while he's running, not just
when you start him. When one is downloaded, a banner drops down at the top of the window with
Update now and Remind me later. Update now restarts Gary on the new version straight
away; Remind me later hides the banner for 2 hours. If you ignore it, the update still installs
next time you start Gary, the same as before. Gary never updates or restarts on his own.
Fixes
- Tyre-wear data uploads when you close the sim. Your last stint's tyre-wear row now goes up
as soon as you leave the sim, instead of waiting for Gary to close. - More iRacing setups read fully. Brake bias, traction control, ride height, toe and wing
settings on several cars (including the BMW M2, Silverado, F3 and F4) are now picked up for the
tyre-wear data.
Updating
Automatic - check on launch, apply on next start. Title bar should read 0.11.13-alpha. From this
version on, Gary also offers updates in a banner while he's running.
Known rough edges
- Gary speaks and understands English only.
Gary 0.11.12-alpha
Tyre wear recorded on the correct side of the tyre.
Fixes
- Left-side tyre wear recorded the right way round. iRacing reports each tyre's wear as left,
middle and right across the tread. Gary was treating "left" as the inside edge on every tyre,
which is true on the right-side tyres but backwards on the left ones. So the inside and outside
edges of the left front and left rear were swapped in the tyre-wear data Gary records. The
shared data has already been corrected, and rows still waiting to upload from an older version
are corrected as they arrive, so there's nothing for you to do. - History page shows the right track conditions. Hovering a pit stop showed a dry iRacing
track as "Damp", and the stints table showed dry stints as "wet 100%". Both now name the
conditions correctly.
Updating
Automatic - check on launch, apply on next start. Title bar should read 0.11.12-alpha.

or say "fuel margin half a lap" for one stop). How many laps you actually run depends on where
the leader is when the clock runs out, which can add a lap Gary can't see coming - the margin is
what covers it. - A restart from Settings mid-race starts Gary's fuel average for the session again, the same as
reopening Gary.
Gary 0.11.11-alpha
Fuel saving that's realistic to drive.
Changes
- Fuel save targets you can actually hit. Gary would offer to drop a stop for up to a 10% fuel
saving - 2.25 liters a lap against 2.5. The maths works but it's not a realistic lift-and-coast.
He now only offers a save of up to 5%. - A save isn't dropped over one bad lap. Gary gave up on a save the moment it needed more than
10%, the same limit he offered at - so a save offered near the limit was abandoned after a lap or
two slightly over target. He now keeps going until it needs more than 7%.
Updating

Gary 0.11.10-alpha
A fuel fix for races that have both a lap count and a time limit.
Fixes
- Fuel calls were way off in races with a lap limit AND a time limit. Some leagues set a race
as "100 laps or 100 minutes, whichever comes first". Gary always went by the lap count, even
when the clock was going to end the race long before it - so he'd say "22 laps remaining" with 5
to go, fill the tank on the last stop and warn there was "another stop to come", and offer fuel
saving to drop stops that didn't exist. Gary now works out which limit ends the race first, from
the time left and your lap times, and uses that for fuel to the end, automatic fuelling, box
calls, fuel saving and the laps-remaining calls. - The grid briefing now says both when a race has both: "100 minutes or 100 laps, whichever
comes first".
Updating
Automatic - check on launch, apply on next start. Title bar should read 0.11.10-alpha.
Known rough edges
