Tally 1.1.1 installs updates from inside the app.

Install: download Tally.zip below, unzip it and drag Tally into Applications. The first time you open it, macOS asks whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. Click Open.

Needs macOS 15 Sequoia or later. Runs natively on Apple silicon and Intel.

What's new:

  • Install and Relaunch. When Check for Updates finds a newer version, Tally can install it for you: it downloads the release from GitHub, replaces itself and reopens. Your history and settings stay.
  • Checked before it's installed. An update is only installed if it's signed by the same developer as the copy you have, notarized by Apple and newer than your version.
  • Tally still never checks on its own. Nothing is downloaded until you choose Check for Updates and click Install and Relaunch.

Updating from 1.1.0: replace the copy in your Applications folder one last time. From 1.1.1 on, Check for Updates does it for you.

Tally 1.1.0 redesigns every screen and adds a Sensors tab, history that stays for good and Tally Wrapped.

Install: download Tally.zip below, unzip it and drag Tally into Applications. The first time you open it, macOS asks whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. Click Open.

Needs macOS 15 Sequoia or later. Runs natively on Apple silicon and Intel.

What's new:

  • A new look. Every screen is redesigned around SF Pro and one indigo accent, with cards built from a figure, chips, a gauge and a bar chart.
  • Sensors tab. Every temperature your Mac reports, charge levels for wireless accessories and the fan controls, which used to be a toolbar popover.
  • History kept for good. Whole-Mac minutes and hourly rows per app are no longer removed after 30 days. Past the 30 day chart range, apps seen in fewer than 3 hours are dropped so the file stays small. Settings › History says so.
  • Tally Wrapped. Through December and January, Overview and the File menu offer your Mac's year as a share card: hours awake by month, top apps by CPU time, data moved, the busiest day and hour, and the apps that led on memory, data and energy.
  • New icon. The app icon is a graphite square of graph paper with an indigo activity trace, and the menu bar glyph is the same mark.
  • Memory Used now matches Activity Monitor.
  • Volume per app is gone.

Updating from 1.0.1: replace the copy in your Applications folder. Your history and settings stay.

Tally now opens without the macOS security warning. It is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized, so Apple has checked this release for malicious software.

Install: download Tally.zip below, unzip it and drag Tally into Applications. The first time you open it, macOS asks whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. Click Open.

Needs macOS 15 Sequoia or later. Runs natively on Apple silicon and Intel.

What's new:

  • SSD health. The Disk tab and the menu bar panel show how much of your drive's rated life is left, with lifetime data written and read.
  • Memory as gigabytes. Settings › Menu Bar has a Show Memory As choice, so the menu bar can show the amount in use instead of a percentage.
  • Open in Background. Tally can start with only its menu bar item: no window and no Dock icon until you open one.
  • The menu bar panel's tabs stay still while the panel resizes.

Updating from 1.0.0: replace the copy in your Applications folder. Your history and settings stay.

The first release of Tally, a free, open-source system monitor for Mac.

Install: download Tally.zip below, unzip it and drag Tally into Applications. The first time you open it, macOS says it can't check the app for malicious software, because Tally isn't signed with a paid Apple developer certificate yet. Click Done, then go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. You only do this once.

Needs macOS 15 Sequoia or later. Runs natively on Apple silicon and Intel.

What's in it: apps instead of processes, separate views for CPU, memory, disk, network, GPU and battery, a month of local history, alerts for runaway apps, local servers by project, a menu bar monitor, Ethernet and Wi‑Fi speeds side by side, temperatures, fans and accessory batteries, and volume per app. It only goes online when you choose Check for Updates.
