Easy SSH 0.5.0

Added

  • Port forwarding (ssh -L): set Forward ports on a connection (/edit), or type /forward 3000, /forward 8080:3000 or /forward 5432:db.internal:5432 at the shell prompt. /forward lists them, /unforward 3000 stops one. Ports listen on 127.0.0.1, show in the status bar, stop on disconnect and come back on reconnect. /import reads LocalForward.
  • Saved commands: /save at the shell prompt keeps a command for the connection (it offers the last line you typed to check first), /run picks one and runs it.
  • Action menu: New Folder… for folders, Permissions… (chmod, shows the current mode) and Copy Path for files and folders.
  • Groups: an optional Group on each connection lists it under a heading on the home screen. /import groups hosts from included files by the file's name.
  • Search: typing after / on the home screen also finds connections by host, user or group.

Easy SSH 0.4.5

Changed

  • README: ask for a star or rating.

Easy SSH 0.4.4

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 14 Oct 23:24
efd165f

Changed

  • The package is built from an explicit list of files, so nothing else in the source folder can end up in the extension. Its contents are the same as 0.4.3.

Easy SSH 0.4.3

@github-actions github-actions released this 14 Oct 00:54

Fixed

  • New connection: the Host step accepts what you'd type after ssh, such as deploy@10.0.4.12:2222 or [fe80::1]:2200, and fills in User and Port from it. Before, the whole text was saved as the host name and the connection could not work.

Changed

  • A smaller, faster-loading extension: the bundle leaves out ssh2's SSH server and key generator, which Easy SSH never uses, and targets the Node.js version that VS Code 1.74 ships.
  • README brought in line with current behaviour.

Easy SSH 0.4.2

Added

  • After your fifth successful connection, Easy SSH asks once whether you'd rate it (Rate / Not now). Rate opens the VS Code Marketplace review page in VS Code and the Open VSX page in other editors. It never asks again, whatever you choose.

Changed

  • Clearer Marketplace listing: the name, description and keywords now say SSH client, SFTP and SSH terminal.
  • The README opens with a short real recording: connect, Ctrl+click a file, Download, with progress.
  • A shorter bug report form on GitHub; questions go to GitHub Discussions.

Easy SSH 0.4.1

Changed

  • Installs in more VS Code-based editors: Easy SSH now needs VS Code 1.74 or newer (was 1.85), so editors built on an older VS Code can install it from Open VSX (Windsurf, VSCodium, Trae, Kiro, Antigravity and others).
  • Works in code-server and other browser-based editors. There it runs on the machine that serves the editor, so connections start from that machine and files are downloaded to and uploaded from its disk. Desktop editors still run it on your own computer, also over Remote-SSH.

Fixed

  • After a session ends, the terminal tab gets its name back (Easy SSH, Easy SSH 2, …) instead of keeping "SSH: ". A new terminal no longer reuses the name of one that is still connected.
  • In code-server and other browser windows, the hints say Ctrl/Cmd+click, since the editor can't tell which keyboard the browser's computer uses. Before, they named the server's key.

Changed

  • New connection list: an Easy SSH >_ brand mark, a Last: line with the connection you used most recently (Enter reconnects it), and an aligned table with host, sign-in method (key, password, agent, jump host) and when each connection was last used. The selected row has a full-width tint. Narrow terminals drop columns and wrap the key hints. The five-line command list is now one line of key hints, and the prompt shows a rotating tip instead of the download folder.
  • /new is a step-by-step wizard: Step X of Y, one boxed field with help per step, inline checks (empty host, port, missing key file), Esc to go back, and a summary with the matching ssh command, Test connection, Save and Back.
  • /edit opens the summary of the connection: pick a field, change it, save. /delete asks in red with the name and host.
  • After a session ends, the list selects the connection you just used.
  • The home screen uses the terminal's height: the key hints sit at the bottom, the parts get more room on tall terminals, and the selected connection's details (host, port, sign-in, jump host, last used, start folder) show under the list when they fit. An empty list shows Getting started.

Added

  • Easy SSH Dark and Easy SSH Light palettes that follow your VS Code theme: Dark with a dark theme, Light with a light one (high-contrast themes get the palette of their brightness). Changing the VS Code theme recolors open Easy SSH terminals at once; there is nothing to set. The screens sit on VS Code's own terminal background; the icon's purple and pink mark the brand, accents and a soft tint on the selected row. Every highlight (prompt, selection, slash menu, hints, tips, wizard focus, text cursor) uses the palette. Connected shells get the palette's cursor and ANSI colors, in Easy SSH terminals only, and get their own colors back when the session ends (easySsh.themeSession). easySsh.colorDepth falls back to 256 or 16 colors.
  • Test connection on the /new and /edit summary: connects and signs in without saving.

Other

  • README: new screenshots, infographic and demo GIF for the redesigned screens and themes.
  • Smaller extension: dead code removed, and package.json is no longer bundled into the extension.

Easy SSH 0.3.0

Changed

  • Ctrl+click on a file or folder name now opens an action menu (Cmd+click on macOS, or a plain click with easySsh.plainClick) instead of downloading right away. The menu's title shows the name and its folder (report.log — /var/log/app), the placeholder its size or item count, and Download is first, so Enter downloads:
    • Download asks where to save: a save dialog for a file, a folder picker for a folder, both starting in your download folder. It shows the progress notification with Cancel. Cancelling the dialog does nothing.
    • Upload… (folders only) picks local files (and folders on macOS) and uploads them into the clicked folder with the progress notification. The dialog names the target folder, and existing names ask Replace, Keep Both or Skip as before. Dropping files on the terminal still uploads into the current folder.
    • Open (text files only) opens the file in a VS Code editor tab (easyssh://<connection>/<path>), read and saved over the terminal's SFTP connection. Ctrl+S / Cmd+S saves it back to the server and keeps its permissions, owner and symlinks. Saving asks before overwriting a file that changed on the server, and says so clearly when the terminal is disconnected or closed. Text files over 5 MB ask first (Open Anyway, Download, Cancel). Open is hidden for archives, images, programs and other binary files: by name, or for unknown names by reading the first 8 KB (NUL bytes or invalid UTF-8).
    • Rename… suggests the current name with the part before the extension selected, refuses empty names, / and names that already exist, and asks once more before renaming over SFTP.
    • Delete… always asks. For a folder it counts the files first (Delete folder "logs" and its 128 files?, or 5000+ files), then deletes it with everything in it over SFTP, with progress and Cancel for big folders. For a symlink only the link is deleted.
  • Link tooltips and the hint above the shell list the actions instead of "Download".
  • README: new infographic, demo GIF and screenshots of the action menu, the editor tab, the large-file question and the save conflict.

Fixed

  • Names created, renamed or deleted by a command (mv, touch, mkdir, cp, tar…) are clickable, or stop being links, as soon as the prompt is back. Before, the folder was only listed again after a cd. Easy SSH now lists it again after every command (once for several quick prompts; a folder with more than 2000 names only when its modification time changed).
  • A Ctrl+click could act on the name a row showed earlier: when the pointer stayed on a row while its text changed (for example after clear && ls), VS Code kept offering the old link. Easy SSH now checks that the row still shows the text the link was made for. If not, it uses the name now under the link, or asks you to click again when that is unclear.
